i’ve been a very loyal fan, i love everything they delivers, i get when you say they could risk more, kind of playing it safe. i agree, but i know it’s easier said than done and somehow every release feels refreshing enough
@@AggressiveGold im going to stop you right there, they have changed a lot since that album, maybe you would have to get into their content a little bit more. Or maybe its just the same noise for you lol
i’ve known about $b for a while, but only got into it with this recent album. it’s beautifully melancholy - some of the best & most intentional production quality i’ve heard, and my mind interprets it as a sort of extended metaphor for sobriety. $crim got sober in 2019, Ruby went cali sober in 2020, and its so clear to me that substance use was a parasite that was restricting their true potential. i mean, this album was a masterpiece to me - and this is coming from someone who enjoys something from damn near every genre, from bluegrass to drill. i also REALLY needed to hear that shit. i attended grey day 2024, and it was an experience from start to finish. $crim’s monologue at the end of the show was the first time in many years (if ever in my lifetime) that i felt seen, understood, hell even accepted, despite my flaws and shortcomings. i think this contributed greatly to me reaching out for professional help and social support, rather than taking it in “stride” (i.e. numbing my thoughts and emotions with more *products*). i mean, i have a long ways to go still, but i’m now what i call “New Orleans sober” as a nod to $b and their city of origin. that is to say, while i’m not Mr. Clean yet, i’m off the shit that tends to tragically inhibit the development of the most talented and hardworking among us. and from an AOD perspective, i shifted from seeing myself through the moral model of addiction to adopting a psychosocial framework to contextualize the situation, as well as give myself the same empathy id have for anyone else struggling in the same way. it’s been a hell of a lot more successful in this short time than any of my efforts in the past however many years it’s been. the metaphor is that, despite being dealt a whole different set of cards than the boy$, we aint so different after all. there aint no ego here, no blame, no shame; it’s simply them coming out the other end successfully, me watching how much their lives have improved, and having the resolve to do the same thing for myself. i often shudder at the thought of where i might be by now had i never got into $uicideboy$. they’ve made such a profound impact on my life in such a short period of time, and gave me something to look forward to becoming. this album is a 10/10 for me. there’s no deeper societal issues being addressed like a kdot project, not particularly experimental like a travis project, and many other things. but it feels as though they made the album for me - like my full government name is written on the “dedicated to” page. they gave me hope, and no amount of money or drugs could ever pay for that.
I agree, I really liked Are you going to see the Rose in the vase, or the dust on the table and would like more songs from them in that catchy and melodic flow and style.
I’ve been a big time listener for a long time, and though I love this album; I agree with you. The lyricism is far more shallow than it used to be, one thing that I really loved about their older music was the world building within the lyrics. I don’t know if they’ve stopped because they think the world has been built, or if they want to go for a wider audience. But Ruby used to build a world brick by brick, song by song, and scrim would play into it heavily. That’s not to say their trademark lyricism has gotten worse, bars like “let my .44 give a speech,” and “you’d think I’m gambit” still show that they like layering and adding some depth to their lyrics, but just not entirely in the way that they used to. I loved those days, but I love these days too. I think I’ve just built such a love and reverence for these guys over the years that I’ll be happy almost any way they go. But I still have to acknowledge the differences from today and yesterday. I never watched your reviews much, but I gotta say I appreciate your ability to acknowledge their strengths even though the music isn’t for you, or you disagree with their method.
I think I agree with what you've said here. They have evolved a lot with the flows and the beats are cleaner, although I do miss the grungy feeling. I will say "Sing Me a Lullaby" had a lot of deepcut and emotional songs...and this was missing on NWD. Other than on 2 and a half-ish tracks any time they said something deep it would kind of jarringly go straight back to the surface. I still love this new album, personally it's a 9/10... I'm just hoping for a deluxe or something. A final note, I do think a lot of the time across the boy$ career they chose to make the beats carry some sad undertones even if they are "hard" tracks, and I think some people struggle to feel that given the new cleaner production. For example, Burgundy is a certified banger but the beat isn't JUST hard... the beat and delivery give off a feeling of sorrow and self-destructiveness, which is hidden under this aggressive bravado. I feel that was something we saw on Eternal Grey, being edgy and tough but every track carrying this depressed feeling. Like saying sad mental health related things can be hard and uncomfortable, so they choose to convey it in undertones or at least mixed with other emotions. Maybe its just me though.
As a $B fan I have to say, I don’t agree with his rating, yet I understand his points and I see them. I’m not going to hate on him bc of it either. I do feel that some lyrics are very deep cutting and meaningful, and I don’t try and gatekeep here, but I do feel that u have to been to that place in ur mind to understand them fully, and see how true they really are. I also heard many times that all $B songs sound the same and I don’t get that point at all, on the other side, I think every Taylor swift song sounds the same, so I guess, if u don’t grow up w the music, listen it daily, or really embody it, it tends to sound generic to u. I do hold the biggest of respect for my boys scrim and Ruby. Love em to death and the fact that they are independent and made it do far already is just insane and makes me proud. To me this album is a 9
it pisses me off he’ll sit here and bitch about their sound not changing and playing it safe all the while they both have solo projects where they arent confined to the suicideboys sound that theyve created, and he just doesnt listen to them
@@oddlyn25 he did. If I remember right he did give lonely boy a rating. Duckboy eps haven’t gotten a fantano review yet tho, even tho I think he would really enjoy them, also factoring in, that Ruby plays most/all of the instruments by himself.
I gotta disagree, personally the album to me is so similar in regards to SMAL. Only difference is scrim has put in some much unneeded piano chords into beats that really didn't need them, it was their way of "changing". Scrim sounds the same on basically every song with his vocal range lacking compared to previous projects, only using the same autotuned mellow voice throughout the album. Ruby carried this to death throughout all this, IMO this might be one of the boys' worst projects to date
I have loved $uicideboy$ throughout my 20s, deep into drug addiction and eventually recovery. I bumped these guys across my adult life and this album honestly made me realize I don't really dig it anymore. Forever proud of the boys, but definitely not for me anymore
the last half of this video i completely disagree with. scrim is one of the best producers in the dark rap genre. his beats speak to all of us. the raps are deep and have other meanings than what your hear. ruby and scrim rap about their life and what they have gone through. and they have a unique voices and flows. all of their records are classics
@@RoachCatJr if scrim let yeat rap on all of loney boy everyone would easily put that as album of the decade. Good thing thatll happen in the snake year and we'll get to look back on these times of entertainment the same way boomers do about the 70 & 80s
As a huge fan of the boy$, I think this is an extremely fair and accurate review. They’re definitely not breaking the mold but they’re giving me more of what I love and I’m ok with that.
I kinda disagree with the opinion of them not changing their sound. They've changed the tone of a lot of their music over the past few years. Sing Me A Lullaby I thought sounded a lot like something they hadn't done before. Even Scrim who I usually can't stand on the track has found some new flows and melodies that I like. They haven't completely revamped their sound but I feel like it's improved a lot over the years. I agree that they rarely try to actually get in that bag. I also think the album was just ok though. I don't hate it but it's not one of my favorites
I don't think you've dived into the lore behind them enough, ive been listening to them for quite some time now, and I got just from the lyrics multiple things : -Grey / Greatness in Transgressions is a reference to G59, or Grey 59, which is their label(?) or whatever its called. - another line in Transgressions is : "got the nine in my bag now its time to board the G5." In the same way its a play on words with G59 The Thin Grey Line: in transgressions, ruby mentions that the fine line has been crossed at least 3 times. Also, ruby mentions that "one more minute till the hours done I'll take my time." 59 minutes. I literally have ingested voluntarily to 1 video of the boys talking: Theo Von Podcast. Everything else I know about them is from their lyrics/reading their wikipedia page once. for like 3 minutes. Overall, seems like the effort put into this video wasn't up there. standard opinion too.
Parsed out on this rippity-dippity-rippity-dippity-rippity-dippity triplet flows. The $UICIDEBOY$ formula is pretty obvious at this point, whether it'd be because you've heard some of the duo's previous EP's or you're familiar with the classic Hip-Hop albums that the duo pretty much used as inspiration
A lot of what you said about the $uicideboy$ at the 8:35 mark can also be true for the type of music that Curren$y makes. Another New Orleans underground artist
Idk how, it sounds pretty refreshing and other than lack of choruses at the most songs it still has lots of newer flows and a bunch of different beats by its vibe compared to their previous music
@@7.65x21mm They always have one song that's tight but then turns out to be a resample with 3-4 effects added. I don't mind it but it feels a tad bit lazy
I think he means beats that progress/change throughout the song so that the end & the beginning don't necessarily sound the same. like jpegmafia beats. I personally enjoy most of their beats.
Seems I just disagree. The sample of a song may stay the same, but almost every song has progressive strings, pianos, drums or other elements. Look at track 8 for example (Are You Going to See the Rose). Pianos all over the track and building strings at the end, pretty detailed in my opinion. I am also a JPEGMAFIA fan as well and no they’re not that bombastic or sporadic, but I would argue that they are as well made and detailed.
to be honest, even if they always do the same sound for 10 years, I enjoy it because music 10 years later down the line can make me feel like Im living 10 years in the past through the vibes of the music. i love being reminded of past times i enjoyed and its even better when it comes from music
when he says “business as usual” and how he said that’s good or bad depending on where ur sitting, well i sit on the side that lovesssss the business is usual i love hearing new suicide boys even though it “sounds the same” i love the boys sm from their old shit to their new shit they never ever seemed to miss with me
As ive been listening to this album ive found that a different song is my favorite from the album on any given day. Today for some reason All My Problems really spoke to me, especially $crims verse and lines about how hes looked up to by so many people in the fanbase, "now i changed trying to show them theres some hope/just another failure, no i aint no god i aint no savior" seemed so raw to me
Yeah, They definitely don't sound how they use to! Which I miss! They're not as sinister or as dark as they use to be! Scrim said that this album was going to be for the old fans and I just don't hear that! Dope album none the less!
I mean it’s a different vibe than their older stuff, at the very least has a new spin on it. So I think it is unfair to say that what they’re doing hasn’t changed a lot. They are putting out longer tracks as well with more material and they never really did that in the past (excluding the razor series). Just my opinion tho… I am biased towards them but I appreciate the respect you gave them even though it wasn’t for you
I don't get the logic. Doesn't this guy listen to generic rappers and music all day like drake? All the same sounds and beats. Then he listens to the boys and it all sounds unique to them and it's a negative?
I feel like some people don't like SB or stops to listen to them because they care about how other people will see them if they like a group with topics like mental health, god's guidance, acceptance of yourself etc, but then they listen to the most mainstream rappers talking about opps n shit and they're nothing like them lmfao
I think why they've kept the style similar with the suicideboys sound, it seems like they've been experimenting with different sounds on their solo albums which I appreciate as it means they can continue to do what they do with exploring on their own which may eventually come to a suicideboys album
I only recently started getting into $uicideboy$, with some enjoyment of artists like Shakewell in the last few years. I dont love everything these guys put out, but the overall sound and vibe goes so fucking hard. Instantly a fan.
Ever since the transition from harder to softer music from them I’ve liked the albums more after they were out for a couple months. I normally don’t pick up on what makes them unique in the first listen.
@@MediaBoy13No shit. All of the sudden Anthony has no common sense when it comes to this album along with people like you. When saying greatness you say “grea” which sounds like “grey” and if you cant interpret that for yourself you need to evaluate your critical thinking skills. Not a head scratcher if it makes sense you just are not intelligent.
What I like about SB is that they do what they set out to do very well, they were never really about ground breaking or even expanding their own discography. They know what they like, they know what their fans like, and they do it damn well
I really enjoy what their formula creates. Was a bit perplexed by them saying they were worried about how much they've changed their sound on this album and whether their fans would like it (on the This Past Weekend podcast).
Ya know, as much as I love the album, I can respect ya opinion on it and I appreciate looking at them as a whole and seeing the appeal even if ya don’t like it
I’ve always liked them, but I’m happy that they aged their music with me. If you ask dedicated fans a lot would say they have completely changed and sold out. Their modern stuff sounds much more refined and like they really have a style and the skill to back up their success to me though. Plus skrim’s production is top notch imo. Skrim needs to produce for more rappers.
I’ve been a fan for a while now and I just wanna give this album a solid 7. I could give or take 50% of the album, but we all know transgressions, misery in walking hours, and burgundy are the hardest if i had to pick 3 to keep
I think there is actually a lot of diversity on this track within their style, and even branching out a bit. They are an acquired taste though and probably this diversity doesn’t show through as well if you aren’t really *into* the vibes. I think 5.9/10 is a very fitting score from a neutral viewer.
I have been a fan of $B for about 10 years now but honestly I rarely ever spin their full albums front to back, and if I do it'll be something from their insane 2014-2016 run not the new stuff. They are just one of those artists where you know each new release is gonna have at least a couple bangers you can throw on the playlist, and that's totally fine w me. Also Ruby's band DUCKBOY is sick and you should listen if you haven't already.
I absolutely love this album and there's only one track that im not that crazy about. The track is Drop Em To The River. the main sample is a little goofy but its still ok. I'll be playing The Light At The End of The Tunnel $9.99 a Month at my funeral. Im going to blow out my speakers with Burgundy. What a banger of a hit.

BEGGING Anthony to review the new The Story So Far album. First album from the band in SIX years, and it’s so good.
i’ve been a very loyal fan, i love everything they delivers, i get when you say they could risk more, kind of playing it safe. i agree, but i know it’s easier said than done and somehow every release feels refreshing enough
I'm not too familiar with them, but I'm listening to an interview now. They're pretty humble, seem like good guys.
@@maxsmart9116their story is inspiring tbh, they helped me through a lot
@@maxsmart9116 they are i love them so much
Since IWTDINO, it feels like they are changing, but very slowly.
SAME. it's top 10 fav in my all time fav sb songs
Replace this album with “Fucking Your Culture” thirteen times and it would be a 10
Did Fantano like “Fucking Your Culture”? I love it, but I haven’t seen him review it.

oh look its the rippity-dippity-rippity-dippity-rippity-dippity triplet flows guy
Ive never listened to the album but i am outraged at this score
Stong 1 to a light 2 not enough rippity dippity triplet flows
I love fantano
the last half of this video i completely disagree with. scrim is one of the best producers in the dark rap genre. his beats speak to all of us. the raps are deep and have other meanings than what your hear. ruby and scrim rap about their life and what they have gone through. and they have a unique voices and flows. all of their records are classics
not even just their "dark rap" stuff. scrim's solo stuff shows he can do it all exceptionally
They actually won a fan with this album. My favorite album from them by far. I actually can’t get over how good this album is.
Same, this is the first time I'm spinning a suicide boys album like crazy.. too many bangers on this album
I don't think you've dived into the lore behind them enough, ive been listening to them for quite some time now, and I got just from the lyrics multiple things :
-Grey / Greatness in Transgressions is a reference to G59, or Grey 59, which is their label(?) or whatever its called.
- another line in Transgressions is : "got the nine in my bag now its time to board the G5." In the same way its a play on words with G59
The Thin Grey Line: in transgressions, ruby mentions that the fine line has been crossed at least 3 times.
That bar at 7:02 aint a head scratcher he’s basically saying that Grey 59 (their label) is great or saying that you can’t be greater than them
But it doesn't work because the full word "grey" is not in "greatness." There is no Y in greatness. Liked the album though
i'm so glad you mentioned the light at the end of the tunnel. easily their most beautiful song since new chains same shackles
For real.
Lonely boy by scrim album of the year 🔥

Parsed out on this rippity-dippity-rippity-dippity-rippity-dippity triplet flows. The $UICIDEBOY$ formula is pretty obvious at this point, whether it'd be because you've heard some of the duo's previous EP's or you're familiar with the classic Hip-Hop albums that the duo pretty much used as inspiration
*beat drops*
7th Ward swervin white Benz wheels turnin
rose gold chrome accent on the rims picture perfect
the thumbnail coming to life when u mouse over it is really cool and i don't think i've ever seen anyone do that before
I thought he had a ton of favorite tracks from this album but then I realized those are only 3 songs
A lot of what you said about the $uicideboy$ at the 8:35 mark can also be true for the type of music that Curren$y makes. Another New Orleans underground artist
Flying Lotus and James Blake in the back....
Hell Yeah
I agree with the take tbh, I enjoyed the album but at the same time it felt like nothing new
Idk how, it sounds pretty refreshing and other than lack of choruses at the most songs it still has lots of newer flows and a bunch of different beats by its vibe compared to their previous music
My mans said the beats weren’t detailed enough. I’m flabbergasted
in terms of other albums they have made id say most the beats were actually pretty simple
@@7.65x21mm They always have one song that's tight but then turns out to be a resample with 3-4 effects added. I don't mind it but it feels a tad bit lazy
I'm fan of sb since 2017 and beatmaker, and yeah, their beats are not detailed
I think he means beats that progress/change throughout the song so that the end & the beginning don't necessarily sound the same. like jpegmafia beats. I personally enjoy most of their beats.
Seems I just disagree. The sample of a song may stay the same, but almost every song has progressive strings, pianos, drums or other elements. Look at track 8 for example (Are You Going to See the Rose). Pianos all over the track and building strings at the end, pretty detailed in my opinion. I am also a JPEGMAFIA fan as well and no they’re not that bombastic or sporadic, but I would argue that they are as well made and detailed.
to be honest, even if they always do the same sound for 10 years, I enjoy it because music 10 years later down the line can make me feel like Im living 10 years in the past through the vibes of the music. i love being reminded of past times i enjoyed and its even better when it comes from music
when he says “business as usual” and how he said that’s good or bad depending on where ur sitting, well i sit on the side that lovesssss the business is usual i love hearing new suicide boys even though it “sounds the same” i love the boys sm from their old shit to their new shit they never ever seemed to miss with me
The suicide boys formula is pretty obvious at this point whether it be because you’ve heard some of the duos previous eps
As ive been listening to this album ive found that a different song is my favorite from the album on any given day. Today for some reason All My Problems really spoke to me, especially $crims verse and lines about how hes looked up to by so many people in the fanbase, "now i changed trying to show them theres some hope/just another failure, no i aint no god i aint no savior" seemed so raw to me
Scrim is either punching the air or laughing his head off rn 💀
I really love that you did say you listened it over multiple times. Even tho I really like the album I really like your review on it too.
We need the Why Lawd? review Anthony
The bills in the intro prove that this is melon's highest budget review to date
Saw Theo Von's interview n said "Looks like I needa give the boy$ a new soundbyte"
Yeah, They definitely don't sound how they use to! Which I miss! They're not as sinister or as dark as they use to be! Scrim said that this album was going to be for the old fans and I just don't hear that! Dope album none the less!
Bro I literally closed out my one punch man season 2 window to watch this review and melon is wearing a one punch man shirt in it. what is life
I mean it’s a different vibe than their older stuff, at the very least has a new spin on it. So I think it is unfair to say that what they’re doing hasn’t changed a lot. They are putting out longer tracks as well with more material and they never really did that in the past (excluding the razor series). Just my opinion tho…
I am biased towards them but I appreciate the respect you gave them even though it wasn’t for you
I don't get the logic. Doesn't this guy listen to generic rappers and music all day like drake? All the same sounds and beats. Then he listens to the boys and it all sounds unique to them and it's a negative?
Its the opposite i think, he listens to way too much experimental shit to the point that the boys sound too stale.
@@internetpoisonWhen 80% of rap right now is just drill music, I dont understand how you can say that
I feel like some people don't like SB or stops to listen to them because they care about how other people will see them if they like a group with topics like mental health, god's guidance, acceptance of yourself etc, but then they listen to the most mainstream rappers talking about opps n shit and they're nothing like them lmfao
You would've given it a 9 if they did a podcast with your favorite comedian
I think why they've kept the style similar with the suicideboys sound, it seems like they've been experimenting with different sounds on their solo albums which I appreciate as it means they can continue to do what they do with exploring on their own which may eventually come to a suicideboys album
I only recently started getting into $uicideboy$, with some enjoyment of artists like Shakewell in the last few years. I dont love everything these guys put out, but the overall sound and vibe goes so fucking hard. Instantly a fan.
Ever since the transition from harder to softer music from them I’ve liked the albums more after they were out for a couple months. I normally don’t pick up on what makes them unique in the first listen.
when you pronounce "great" in greatness, you sound out the word grey
He understood
As a fan still a head scratch of a line, ruby definitely was stretching a bit
you can spell greatness without grey tho
@@MediaBoy13No shit. All of the sudden Anthony has no common sense when it comes to this album along with people like you. When saying greatness you say “grea” which sounds like “grey” and if you cant interpret that for yourself you need to evaluate your critical thinking skills. Not a head scratcher if it makes sense you just are not intelligent.
@@mrbubbatron9523 wish he just said "without saying grey you can't pronounce greatness" lol
What I like about SB is that they do what they set out to do very well, they were never really about ground breaking or even expanding their own discography. They know what they like, they know what their fans like, and they do it damn well
Bro should review Eternal Grey !
I really enjoy what their formula creates. Was a bit perplexed by them saying they were worried about how much they've changed their sound on this album and whether their fans would like it (on the This Past Weekend podcast).
Seeing independent artists do well is always a W💯
#1 Independent artists in the entire WORLD rn by the way...
Ya know, as much as I love the album, I can respect ya opinion on it and I appreciate looking at them as a whole and seeing the appeal even if ya don’t like it
Saved 4/13 on initial listen, 5/13 after the 2nd and 3rd listen. I'm always on the lookout for their drops regardless.
I respect this review Fantano, bravo! 👏
I knew Fanthony was going to bring up the Grey / Greatness bar or the Beyond Meat one lol
Suicideboys are real legends. At least they keep it real and authentic. They never put on an act and they lasted this long. That's amazing!!!
Take a drink of water every time he says the duo
As someone who has been keeping up with the boys since 2017 this is probably your best review to date.
I’ll never be mad at his reviews on the boys because all his points confirm his nickname as the internets most pretentious music nerd.
Anthony dumping on an album per usual. was always funny to me that he did nothing but tore Mac Miller apart then when he passes hes all tears.
to say the same thing over & over in different ways for 10+ years & still be successful at it has to get some kudos for creativity.
“Parsed out into these Rippidy dippidy rippidy dippidy triplet flows”
I’ve been a fan for a while now and I just wanna give this album a solid 7. I could give or take 50% of the album, but we all know transgressions, misery in walking hours, and burgundy are the hardest if i had to pick 3 to keep
You'd definitely like Ruby's solo work more
I think there is actually a lot of diversity on this track within their style, and even branching out a bit. They are an acquired taste though and probably this diversity doesn’t show through as well if you aren’t really *into* the vibes. I think 5.9/10 is a very fitting score from a neutral viewer.
Suicideboys are pretty sick sound and vibe. I don't check everything out though they are so prolific. I'm happy they're clean and succeeding though
This album is a front to back listen. It flows so well from track to track
He said the flows are not “in your face” and that’s a wild claim.
Yeah this album was fucking awesome
I absolutely love this album and there's only one track that im not that crazy about. The track is Drop Em To The River. the main sample is a little goofy but its still ok. I'll be playing The Light At The End of The Tunnel $9.99 a Month at my funeral. Im going to blow out my speakers with Burgundy. What a banger of a hit.

Love the boy$ and this album didn’t disappoint
They have been able to what every artist/band want. They have a fan base that is almost a cult. They are incredibly loyal and they will sellout tickets everywhere they go because of it. I have nothing but respect for these guys. They were always there in 2014. But I feel like they are blowing up right now more than ever. I hear a lot of younger dudes including my younger brother and all his friends listening to them.
