They’ve used glitchy beats but its not like they do it that often either
there's an argument to be made that DSOTM is not as good as some of their other albums, but to say that the songs and chord progressions on dark side sound "the same" is absolutely fucking absurd. the reprise of breathe sounds like breathe (gee ya think?) and other than that none of the songs sound "the same" as each other in any way at all.
@@HollowGolem Of all the unwarranted criticisms I've ever heard about DSOTM, saying the album has "fat" has got to be the most ridiculous ones. The Dark Side of the Moon is 42 minutes and 32 seconds of perfection. There isn't one filler moment on the entire record.
Blond came out when I, along with my peers, were coming into taste and going through late teens to late 20s. And that age group’s presence on the social sphere might be the loudest… The emotional impact hit in a certain way. It was different than a commercial album from a pop-ish r&b artist. It just hit so heavy in the moment. I can remember exactly where I was when I first listened to it and relating to it immediately
@@andresmcjrnot at all. Bizarre take actually. It's just soulful and beautiful. You definitely have to not be shallow to enjoy it I'll say that. Being into many genres and decades of music helps too, having done psychedelic drugs also helps.
For a lot of people who love blonde, the lack of percussion is part of what's impressive; the songs are emotionally heavy and carry themselves with so few elements. Complaining that those songs feel unfinished because they have "0 drums" is like complaining that Picasso painted faces with the eyes "in the wrong place".
Let's argue: Fantano has 20/20 vision and those glasses are actually just to weigh down his nose to keep his moustache from growing up to his eyebrows.
Can we all agree that DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, and The Wall is the greatest 4-album run of all-time? Regardless of which is your favorite, that's 4 straight masterpieces.
No F**ing way. DSOTM is amazing, but I would have cheered if The Wall replaced it on this overrated list, cause the Wall belongs here. As far as 4 album runs, still one of the top 4 album runs, but I'll take the Stones Big 4, The Velvets 4 original releases, Led 1-4, LCD's Four non-nike sponsored releases, over This Floyd stretch - drawing a blank if there's any other's I'd rate ahead.
I think the greatest mistake made is: overhyped =//= overrated. Lateralus is absolutely a rolling banger from begining to ending. Dark Side of the Moon remained a high bar for the genre for years after its released. Do the fans treat the band as living gods and overhype the shit out of them? Absolutely. Does this make the albums overrated? Not a chance. The two are mutually exclusive.
Ya I would agree with that, and a lot of time I see that pendulum swing back and forth. For me, that's like Nirvana, the hype was so big, all I ever heard was Nirvana is the greatest band, or greatest 90s band, etc. when personally I didn't even think they were the best grunge band from Seattle. But then the hype gets so big that it becomes "uncool", so then I would hear how overrated they were or how they're not even a very good band, and I thought the same thing they're not really overrated just overhyped, and now I see it swinging back the other way, especially with the younger generation discovering them
Who Cares I agree with that but it’s definitely his worst album and there’s no stand out tracks like new workout plan, roses, heartless or power but it does have a very cohesive structure
I have a very hard time agreeing that Dark Side of the Moon is overrated, it deserves all the praise it gets. Even though my favorite PF albm is Animals, then The Wall, then Dark Side, it still never fails to affect me emotionally every single time I listen to it from start to end, it puts me in a different place.
A lot of people tend to think that because an album is so popular, it has to be overrated, this doesn't count with dsotm because it's a near perfect album
I mean sure, it's a little bit homogenous, musically speaking, and I definitely think WYWH and Animals are better, but it's not an overrated album by any stretch.
While I agree with the take on Dark of The Moon not being as musically complex as their later albums with Roger Waters, I wholly disagree with the album being considered “overrated” I think a better take on the album is when I heard a dude say *Dark Side of The Moon is arguably the greatest album of all time but not the greatest Pink Floyd album* and it somehow makes so much sense to me.
Definitely funnels back into the "If it's accessible, is it good?" argument that circles around art. I believe Dark Side of the Moon is great BECAUSE it is accessible: it works as an elegant primer into prog that is not initially palatable. There is a culmination to their work where you can start feeling its ruminations within Meddle, and then it continues with WYWH, Animals, and The Wall. I like to think of Dark Side as the entrance to the Roman Coliseum: yes, it's grand, but the space opens up in ways you can scarcely imagine.
@@parker3216 respectfully it just feels like if ur not on psychedelic drugs the majority of their music is way too slow and boring to me. Maybe they're excellent technical musicians, idk I'm not a musician, but just to the ear I find them very boring and overrated. BLOND is a dark-night-of-the-soul record and it requires something from the listener. It's the best album i've heard in 10 yrs and takes me to places no other record has.
I’ve been waiting for this album to take me somewhere but it never has and I think it’s because I listen to other Rn’B. I tried to like it since I like Rn’B but it really just for me is an ok album.
Just curious, how much music do have you listenened to, both in amount and variety? I like Blonde, but I really struggle to understand how so many see it as "top 3 of the decade" material or some transcendent work of art. Top 50 of the decade sure, my rating is pretty much in line with Fantano's.
Blond is amazing until you realize that there is actually a shit ton of filler between Nikes and Nights and everything after that is absolute wash. Futura Free is pretty good, kinda haunting now that his brother passed away
@@Ancienregime8090 So does the Breathe Reprise. It's about the start of life and the various ways to live your life, either fast and exciting, or long and mundane. It comes back at the end of Time, a song about waiting and wasting your life, to signify the sad reality that you've wasted your life, the less desirable of the two options presented in Breathe has been realised thanks to Time
I like this video for two main reasons. One is that it’s full of records I recognize and remember easily. Secondly Anthony’s defense of these classics is a representation of how he loves music in general, and any good album is worth liking. I like that positivity, even if it’s founded on the negativity of others.
TBH Dark Side of the Moon was one of the first rock albums I was able to fully sit through and to this day holds some of my favorite songs but Wish you Were Here will forever be legendary because of Shine on you Crazy Diamond
I was thinking the same. That opinion and his way of writing it clearly comes from a meme. Nobody that had listened Jambi thinks of it as dull or smt like that.
@@shady8045 Yeah I get what you mean. There's a lot more of a punky vibe to that mixtape and as most people get the idea of what punk rock is, it's a lot more easily digestible, as heavy as it is. @@shady8045 how do you guys find it accessible..? it’s kinda too much chaos for me and I’m predominantly into heavy music. The vocals are so ear blasting in the mix. The instrumental is so messy. Their first commercial album still holds these characteristics but not as harsh.
There is almost a cult following of And Justice For All Objectivly yes, the production is a step back BUT the same way you enjoy harshness of Death Grips, many people enjoy the sound of AJFA It sounds rough, brutal, every song is so technical, there are a lot of things to love about AJFA Also James sounds fucking demonic, his best vocal performance by far
Yeah man, I really love AJFA. I view it as a grief album and I like the roughness. I don't dislike the black album but it definitely is more accessible and for lots of metal elitists I think its easy to shit on.
Gotta be honest, my Pink Floyd favorite album ever is The Wall, but i can see why many people prefer Dark Side of the Moon, it is to me, a "perfect album" like The Wall is, just in a different way... The Great Gig in the Sky is still, to this day, my quintessential and favorite Pink Floyd song ever!... i mean, Clare Torry deserves a fkn lifetime-merit-trophy for those vocals alone! But Pink Floyd are such a great band in so many different aspects (like many other all-time bands) that it get's to a point, where it becomes difficult just to find arguments why some albums are better than others, because they all have 3 main things: quality, creativity and technique.
I agree, i think the only way to make a ranking like this is really let every album grow on you and make a list in order of personal enjoyment. I don't really care for anything post Waters tbh
Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness is amazing start to finish. The B-sides to those sessions are really strong also, I'd argue that a few of those tracks should have made the album. Billy was on point during that era.
Melon Collie is the only "Pumpkins" album that I adore/love. I like "Siamese Dream" and the one that came after "Melon Collie" but there IS something special about that album. The only track that I don't care for is "Take me down".
Mellon Collie is a truly great album that had stood the test of time, but the coastal hipster elite always hated Corgan because of him being a big ego weirdo from Chicago.
Ok I was cool with everything until DSOTM. That is unarguably one of the greatest recordings of all time. Just from a technical standpoint alone it could be argued that it's underrated because people don't appreciate how fucking groundbreaking and genius it was.
It’s absolutely not underrated dude, it’s the most famous album in RnR. It already gets the attention it deserves. You’re just prolly talking about today’s generation because rock became less popular since the 90s.
The reason why I think blonde is one of the best albums of our generation is because of the way frank introduces his emotions. For its time the style of prediction and use of effects was very unique for the major art world. The way the songs sound and the almost liquid texture I believe really capture what it feels like to be In a period of existential dread. I am also a fan of the points and slight references he makes on the album. He talks about relationships struggles, drug addiction, technology addiction, loneliness and isolation, the fear of losing people and learning to let go, I also have the feeling that he was inspired by 2pacs message about helping others and making sure that everyone has a fighting chance. At the end of the album frank talks about trying to let go of all his worries because he realizes that he can’t fix everything. “ I’m just a guy not a god “

Mellon Collie, Siamese Dream, and Gish are classics. I also think Adore gets unfairly shit on quite a bit. When Anthony was talking about the TOOL comment and how math is inherent to music(and not just western music either) I immediately thought of Music is Math by Boards of Canada. Fantastic group, definitely worth your time if you like warm, ambient electronic music with an emphasis on melody and analogue synthesis.
I don't necessarily agree with all his reviews but he knows how to articulate what he likes and doesn't like about music and his points are very fair. This is why Im subscribed.
Blond is a revolutionary album. The weak points julesnnz identifies are in fact some of its strongest and what makes it so groundbreaking. It introduced many structural and sonic innovations in the context of pop music that, I reckon, will continue to exert influence over other musical artists for a long time.
alright, I listened to MBDTF for the very first time of my life a couple days ago and I honestly don't understand the debate people make on how good it is. it's clearly Kanye's most expressive work on an artistic level and it just shows he can do much more than rap. every track on the album sounds amazing and, as Anthony said, even the features still feel like Kanye. the production on this thing is unreal and the lyrics on Kanye's parts are very expressive and clever. his flow feels unique in every track, thr rhyme density is not excessive nor lacking by any means. his delivery is actually more diverse than it is on his other records. either you like or don't like this album, it's amazing. even Anthony, that is still being skeptical about it, ranked it as his 2nd best project. it is one of the best albums ever made. I'm not saying it's perfect and surely it can't be liked by everyone, but you gotta admit it's incredible at everything it does.
"Funeral" by Arcade Fire is still one of the BEST Indie albums of the 00s. Period. Everybody loved that album by the time it came out, for reasons. And the shabby sound is a big part of what made it so great.
Yes, Dark Side isn’t the greatest album ever made, but is anyone going to argue against A: Time being one of David Gilmore’s best solos by a long shot and B: Brain Damage / Eclipse being one of the best album closers in rock history.
Let's agarble: Most people calling dsotm overrated hear it piece by piece on classic rock radio while sober and that is not how Pink Floyd concept albums are meant to be listened to
The TOOL reception is quite weird, People will Die on the the Hill of how good it is or how much they hate it. There is no inbetween, Personally I think their music is genuinly some of the greatest works of art ever
i'm in the inbetween, as an ex-fan. Used to LOVE their stuff, am influenced by their style quite a bit to this day, but my journey as a music listener has led me much deeper, to the point where Tool has become kind of pedestrian in comparison. They just don't appeal to me as much as projects like Beyond Creation or Devin Townsend do anymore. Justin's basslines are still fun to play along to though
the chord progressions on dark side of the moon are some of my favs, take the great gig in the sky, one of the most elegant chord progressions I've ever played
I think DSOTM is the best album of all time, it's just my opinion but... It's not about the band that made it, each song that is in it, that single guitar solo in Time or the instrumentals, for me, that album is a life lesson as a whole. You could listen to it 20, 30 years in the future and still have goosebumps in Great Gig, or On The Run. It's a timeless album, and beside of that, it's musically a masterpiece as well, full of emotion, passion, heart and soul. Ignoring what I said before and focusing on each songs, Torry's voice performance in Great Gig, that guitar solo in Time that was made in the first try and improvised, the emergency of On The Run, or the loneliness and soul of Us and Them. I would hate Pink Floyd and even Rock in general, but if I gave that album a try, oh boy, wouldn't regret a single second.
@@sambt123 changed my mind about it being the best album (as it's fucking dumb to give this title to any piece of art), but I'll have to disagree with ya on that
I agree that basically most of the chord progressions on DSOTM are the same, (i IV) I feel like that progression never gets old. There is so much soul in it, and is so easy to space out to. The tension and release is also neat. It is so much less repetitive that (I V vi V)
0 subscribers with no videos challenge absolutely !!! why should people be allowed to enjoy the music they like for their own personal reasons without being judged when we can all make fun of people who don’t agree with The Melon and the rules of Melonism
And Justice For All is an incredibly well written album. Unfortunately, I can't listen to the original because the mixing is so god awful. I have to listen to remixes
Honestly I don't mind the mixing in the album. The lack of bass sucks but unless I am either in a studio environment or with a setup in which I can really make out details of the song, I really don't even notice. And besides, Metallica usually doubles down on the guitar with the bass to make it heavier, it's not like Rush where the bass is like a whole third of the song. I rarely notice bass in Metallica songs anyway. And I know nothing of mixing so it doesn't sound horrible to me.
And yes I know it seems like I don't give a shit about bass in songs, which is not true. It just doesn't play as big of a part in Metallica as it does in other bands. (And yes, I do notice the bass in Metallica songs if it is actually playing something different to the guitar, a lot of the time it just doesn't)
Its really not bad. It's the most technical album, everything is tight and it sounds very polished. The lack of bass is unfortunate but it's not necessarily a huge deal in this regard. It's obviously still present, otherwise it would really sound like garbage. If anything, Death Magnetic sounds the worst.
When i saw DSOTM in the thumbnail i thought "well, i think someone didn't listened to it paying attention" i was right when he said that "most of the songs sound similiar" yeah, cuz Brain Damage its a copy of Breathe
DSotM is so good... Its not about being revolutionary ( but hey, they went through a lot of work making Time and Money to work as they do ), but it is an album to be felt. Some people overlook the value of the music and rate it as a product. It used to be about the art. Less so nowadays, to the general public at least.
Trout mask is famous because its organized chaos. They play insane in time. Its really crazy. I watched a video about it that broke down the songs and it made me appreciate more. Its not in my playlist but I don't hate it.
Meddle, The Dark Side of the Moon, Shine on you crazy diamond, Animals, The Wall are equally fascinating to me. No better than the other, they are different moods but you still get that Pink Floyd goodness through all of them.

Damn straight!
Agreed
i never thought about it like that, that really is an incredible run
No F**ing way. DSOTM is amazing, but I would have cheered if The Wall replaced it on this overrated list, cause the Wall belongs here. Zeps 1-4 run is the greatest imo
Brilliantly said! I love DSotM and I agree.
Exactly, and people often regarded Overhyped with Overrated.
Fuck that record.

@@derekwadas8489 I've heard others say that.
he hates DSOTM

this is the closest we'll ever get to a siamese dream review
I personally disagree. There are at least 15 albums better than DSOTM
Edit: I no longer disagree lol
Funeral is the best album of all time imo
DSOTM is very boring
@@sambt123 changed my mind about it being the best album (as it's fucking dumb to give this title to any piece of art), but I'll have to disagree with ya on that
I agree that basically most of the chord progressions on DSOTM are the same, (i IV) I feel like that progression never gets old. There is so much soul in it, and is so easy to space out to. The tension and release is also neat. It is so much less repetitive that (I V vi V)
lets argue: music is just music and we shouldn’t feel bad about liking what you listen to.
Let's argue: there's nothing wrong with not liking something and expressing your opinion :)
I...
Disagree, I feel all our opinions must come from the Melon himself

AJFA is the best metallica album
@Sam Exatly

Oh my God, Melon, that kind of hurt me.

I love that you confused wish you were here with SOYCD since i do it all the time🙏
