Totally agree, that art is what got me into Radiohead as a whole. I saw it and instantly was curious enough to give it a blind listen. When I dove deeper into the album, I really began to appreciate and adore how much the music fit the image. I love when an album feels like it takes place in its cover art, and no one does it better than Kid A in my opinion.
@@henrybenson519 hmm, well. I think Kid A is strong, but mainly because rainbows actually conveys an idea about the songs and Kid A says that something is going to be new, yet it doesn't say what and that's cool, but I prefer the fact that rainbows is also sending a message but saying it's about something silly, and colourful, very bright and with different spectres like a rainbow, which quite catches on with the first track 15 steps.
i feel like the covers of the caretaker's "everywhere at the end of time" are worthy of a mention. painstakingly made by ivan seal to induce the feelings of not being able to recognize familiar objects/imagery. goes incredibly well with the concept of the albums. what do you think? stage 3 in particular looks like incredibly aggressive and entangled almost fluid seaweed, which sounds way more hilarious in words than it was in my mind. but yeah, it gives that unsettling feeling of looking into murky water without being able to see the bottom of it., which i find fascinating!

The first Elvis Presley album cover titled " Elvis Presley" with the colour schemes is so iconic to me . Simplicity but legendary .It was an actual picture of him at a concert during his teenage years . It's the enjoyment of music in its purest form
I think the cover art for London Calling is the best album art of all time by a considerable margin. To me the image of Paul Simonon smashing his bass is a defining image of Rock 'n' Roll, and specifically punk and The Clash. The use of the text design from Elvis' first LP demonstrates how The Clash took onboard their many influences and explored them on the record, giving a nod to the past while simultaneously bringing them up-to-date and taking them forward. The best album of all time in my opinion, wouldn't change a single thing about it.
There's a head shop/record store in Minneapolis called the Electric Fetus that had a giant cardboard statue of the pink robot. Maybe it's still there - last time I went would have been as a child in the mid to late oughts. Ah, memories.
“Mirror Reaper” by Bell Witch is my personal favorite. Not only is it a stunning piece of art, but I’ve never seen an album cover capture the mood of an album so well.
Elvis Presley Self titled first album is my choice . Iconic and repeated many times but the original will always be the best . This was before the fame . Just the pureness of a teenager enjoying music in a concert . Simple but so legendary
Igor's cover art is amazing it has the same feel as the music, what you see is what you get literally. Tyler sacrificing his image to embrace one of an Igor furthermore it is a fantastic intro for the music as it sets the stage for who is singing thus setting the experience.
I only recently discovered that Igor had alternate artwork done for the deluxe cover that looks absolutely amazing and kinda conflicts the shit out of me, because that simple pink cover with the cut and paste of Tyler's head is so iconic and I will forever associate it with the music more.
I was about to comment this thinking that no one else shared the same appreciation. The album cover makes more sense especially after listening to it, plus it is just so pleasing to look at composition wise
Sleep - Dopesmoker Sets the tone and vibe perfectly. I probably wouldn’t say it’s the most meaningful cover art, but it has the largest impact on experiencing the music.
Not only Mellon Collie, but Siamese Dream is an amazing cover too. The juxtaposition of two little girls in angle costumes to the grand rock roller coaster of an album. The image also taps into themes of angel wings, Siamese twins, dreams and the beauty of some of the ballads on that album. It’s a highly underrated album cover.
came here to say this. most iconic album cover for the most seamless, artfully-constructed album of all time. what sets melodrama apart from so many other albums isn’t just the brilliant wordplay and clever use of synth sounds with vocals (hard feelings/loveless), it’s how the album only works as a WHOLE. the entire album tells the chronological story of a whirlwind romance, a breakup, and moving on. it’s PHENOMENAL and I cannot stress enough how perfect melodrama is

I absolutely love the Die Lit album cover a little disappointed it didn’t get some love here but I guess I would have a hard time naming it as one of the “best” album covers of all time
I’d say Demon Days with the well-known art style and how dark the color choices are throughout, which matches the mood with the themes talked about in the album. Personally I’d also add Plastic Beach with the message thing too, but it didn’t make as much of an impact on pop culture and music as much as Demon Days did.
agreed. that deep dark feeling you get from just looking at it. pretty psychedelic indeed. am I the only one who thought as a child that that pig on the front cover was instead a creepy fat face lurking through the clouds in the sky, kind of a meaty theatrical greek mask? those were truly the weird days.. i miss them.
While I don’t think it’s necessarily the best, one of my favorite album covers has to be OutKast’s “Aquemini”. I’m kinda shocked nobody mentioned it. I was always impressed by how visually appealing the artwork was, while also capturing the smooth, chill, funky vibe of the music, and also showing, to some degree, the difference between 3 stacks and Big Boi (although, admittedly, Stankonia did a better job at that last thing).
*sad joy division noises* But seriously I’m surprised no one picked Unknown pleasures the album art is so good that the art almost transcends the actual album
The Rainbow Goblins cover is just super pleasing, the painting look represents some classical parts of the album while the rainbow pops out like the fusion elements of the album. Such good composition on the painting. Giorno Giovanna true. I was going to put sheer heart attack, but I have more of an emotional connection to ANATO.
Radiohead - Kid A: Conveys the entire meaning and feel of the album in one singular image, and it sticks with you forever.
I prefer rainbows... And hail to the thief.
@@duvan-solis Their art doesn’t quite encapsulated the sound as well as Kid A.
I don't know what it is about it, but I do really like Amnesiac's cover.
The fact that there isn’t a mention of Iron Maiden is startling I mean
Somewhere in time, Powerslave, 7th son are all amazing
i feel like the covers of the caretaker's "everywhere at the end of time" are worthy of a mention. painstakingly made by ivan seal to induce the feelings of not being able to recognize familiar objects/imagery. goes incredibly well with the concept of the albums. what do you think? stage 3 in particular looks like incredibly aggressive and entangled almost fluid seaweed, which sounds way more hilarious in words than it was in my mind. but yeah, it gives that unsettling feeling of looking into murky water without being able to see the bottom of it., which i find fascinating!
Honorable mention to the sixth one who differs from the others but still in the same mood with their coulor
@@emidualibe sixth is the best. It’s a painting facing the other way, symbolizing how dementia patients recognize there’s a memory but don’t know what it is/can’t see it

It's 80s as hell and over the top, but I love the cover of "Holy Diver" by Dio. The contrast between the monster and the clergyman is really interesting. Also, Holy Diver is also a great album.
yeah that's a dope cover. now i wonder what you think about tremonti's cauterize cover
the album cover for kids see ghosts is literally an artwork, and a darn good one at that
Some of my favorite album covers:
Animals - Pink Floyd
Is This It - The Strokes
Kid A - Radiohead
Transference - Spoon (my profile picture)
Madvillainy - Madvillain
AHJ - Albert Hammond Jr.
Favourite Worst Nightmare - Arctic Monkeys
Brothers - The Black Keys
The White Album - The Beatles
Broken Boy Soldiers - The Raconteurs
To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar
etc., etc., etc....
Surprised Led Zeppelin's "In Through The Outdoor" with the various album covers wasn't mentioned!
we all forgot how crazy the daytona album cover goes
Oh yeah. Whitney

The greatest album of all time*
Mario Salinas It’s a lit album cover, homie looks like he’s getting doused in jizz
The first Elvis Presley album cover titled " Elvis Presley" with the colour schemes is so iconic to me . Simplicity but legendary .It was an actual picture of him at a concert during his teenage years . It's the enjoyment of music in its purest form

One of my personal favourites is Sunny Day Real Estate’s “Diary.” Can someone let the block people know the toaster’s on fire?
Such a good album cover!
Great album
Great album cover. Definitely in my Top 10
Oh god oh fuck they don’t know the toaster is on fire
Personally I would've chosen Lorde's Melodrama or Gorillaz Demon Days
I think the cover art for London Calling is the best album art of all time by a considerable margin. To me the image of Paul Simonon smashing his bass is a defining image of Rock 'n' Roll, and specifically punk and The Clash. The use of the text design from Elvis' first LP demonstrates how The Clash took onboard their many influences and explored them on the record, giving a nod to the past while simultaneously bringing them up-to-date and taking them forward.
The best album of all time in my opinion, wouldn't change a single thing about it.
I think flaming lip's "yoshimi battles the pink robots" has one of my favorite cover arts
I’m more of a fan of the Embryonic album cover myself, but I mess with this.
Amen. Absolutely LOVE Bell Witch.
Fucking awesome
Not court of the crimson king?
Elvis Presley Self titled first album is my choice . Iconic and repeated many times but the original will always be the best . This was before the fame . Just the pureness of a teenager enjoying music in a concert . Simple but so legendary
Google the guy, Mariusz Lewandowski, and his main influence, Beksinski. You can buy their art online and it really sets the mood for a room.
I've always loved the Plastic Beach cover by Gorillaz. It captures the bright, nautical theme of the album perfectly.
All of the Gorillaz album covers as well as Black Parade are amazing Album covers.
Supertramp, "Breakfast In America". The "New York skyline but made out of café items" idea was cool looking and the effort put into it was top-notch.
Nice profile picture
I actually had no idea the buildings were made of cafe materials wow
I think Random Access Memories deserves at least an honorable mention for the way it cleanly represents Daft Punk as a whole in a single image.
Igor's cover art is amazing it has the same feel as the music, what you see is what you get literally. Tyler sacrificing his image to embrace one of an Igor furthermore it is a fantastic intro for the music as it sets the stage for who is singing thus setting the experience.
Wishing Blood Existed
I only recently discovered that Igor had alternate artwork done for the deluxe cover that looks absolutely amazing and kinda conflicts the shit out of me, because that simple pink cover with the cut and paste of Tyler's head is so iconic and I will forever associate it with the music more.
I was about to comment this thinking that no one else shared the same appreciation. The album cover makes more sense especially after listening to it, plus it is just so pleasing to look at composition wise
Pantera's, Vulgar Display Of Power's cover is a perfect representation of the album.
3 nobody mentioned:
Currents by Tame Impala
A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead
10,000 Days by Tool
id go aenema over 10000 days but neither are amazing imo
Moon shaped pool cover i fully agree
AMSP isnt even Radiohead’s best cover
@@tristan5494 imo it is, even though i also really love the kid a and in rainbows covers. ok computer is alright too
Tool is overrated
Sleep - Dopesmoker
Sets the tone and vibe perfectly. I probably wouldn’t say it’s the most meaningful cover art, but it has the largest impact on experiencing the music.
I couldn't agree more! Arik Roper is a genius. His cover for Windhand Eternal Return is equally as perfect as Dopesmoker :)
Axis: Bold as a Love. Such a trippy and psychedelic cover that perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the album.

It’s a highly underrated album cover.
interesting way to spell “Melodrama”
yes omg
melodrama's cover art belongs in the louvre 😪
@@peaarrllldiver Down the back, but who cares, still the Louvre
came here to say this. most iconic album cover for the most seamless, artfully-constructed album of all time. what sets melodrama apart from so many other albums isn’t just the brilliant wordplay and clever use of synth sounds with vocals (hard feelings/loveless), it’s how the album only works as a WHOLE. the entire album tells the chronological story of a whirlwind romance, a breakup, and moving on. it’s PHENOMENAL and I cannot stress enough how perfect melodrama is

I absolutely love the Die Lit album cover
a little disappointed it didn’t get some love here but I guess I would have a hard time naming it as one of the “best” album covers of all time
One cover I really like is “Spiderland” by Slint. It’s so simple yet looming with darkness at the same time.
I love that the remastered release comes with a field recording of the quarry/lake they were in for the album art. Easily one of my favorite albums
"Closer" by Joy division is up there for me
Any album art made by Peter Saville is great tbh
over unknown pleasures, interesting
Yeats Bell The Unknown pleasures album cover is just an image found in a book I think
Gingecringe its from the first time the frequency of a pulsar signal was demonstrated
Pretty much everything done by Joy Division. From Closer to Unknown Pleasures and the Ideal for living EP.
They're all great covers
I’d say Demon Days with the well-known art style and how dark the color choices are throughout, which matches the mood with the themes talked about in the album. Personally I’d also add Plastic Beach with the message thing too, but it didn’t make as much of an impact on pop culture and music as much as Demon Days did.
Which is a shame because I find Plastic Beach as good as Demon Days
When it comes to being iconic and recognizable I would put Demon Days, Weezer, and Madvillainy up there too
@bodd boward i get the joke yes but pinkerton cover is still better than any of the self titled albums

Pink Floyd’s Animals: I think the cover represents the bleakness of the album especially with the gatefold
I love the gatefold art!!
agreed. that deep dark feeling you get from just looking at it. pretty psychedelic indeed. am I the only one who thought as a child that that pig on the front cover was instead a creepy fat face lurking through the clouds in the sky, kind of a meaty theatrical greek mask? those were truly the weird days.. i miss them.
Love the covers for kids see ghosts and flower boy. Both capture the music beautifully and are very nice paintings on their own
While I don’t think it’s necessarily the best, one of my favorite album covers has to be OutKast’s “Aquemini”.
Anything Peter Saville did for Joy Division or New Order. All brilliant.
I still love that Madvillany album cover with MF DOOM, as simple as it is, it has some enigma too it.
Fantano covering up Ringo in the Abbey Road cover art is the boldest statement of 2020
There should be a part two for this, I love this topic
Melon think MBDTF is a 6/10 yet he includes it in every “BEST” discussion
Hmmmmmm
The irony
maybe he thinks it’s impactful and influential but he just didn’t personally like the album
Idioy
@Anson Hartzler Because It's an over used meme, and because It's a great album
This seems more like the most iconic album covers than best.
Also Relapse catches my eye a lot
*sad joy division noises*
But seriously I’m surprised no one picked Unknown pleasures the album art is so good that the art almost transcends the actual album
The Rainbow Goblins cover is just super pleasing, the painting look represents some classical parts of the album while the rainbow pops out like the fusion elements of the album. Such good composition on the painting.
