      I don’t trust one grading company (PSA) owning another (SGC), while preserving the illusion of independence by keeping the old brand (SGC). Feels like a conflict of interest, in my opinion.

    For my PC slabs I prefer SGC, that black border helps the cards stand out. I hope this isn't a net negative.

      I think it will be a net positive for the industry and definitely for SGC. I too have plenty of their slabs in my PC.

    Ironic thing about PSA graded cards supposedly having a higher market value....3 highest priced cards ever sold at auction? Graded by SGC.

    • @gotbaseballcards-com
      @gotbaseballcards-com  7 месяцев назад

      True, but if the Wagner PSA 5 or PSA 8 ever hit the market again (or one of the 1952 Mantle PSA 10s), that would change, but that's a very valid point as things stand currently.

    I’ve been on the buyee side of corporate mergers. At first the buyer says you can keep operating business as usual. But over time, sooner rather than later, the buyee’s business practices exactly mirror the purchaser’s business and the old company is essentially no more.

    If you just look at sports cards graded by PSA and SGC each month. It is much closer. Usually 4-5x. It’s the TCG that makes it look so skewed.

    • @gotbaseballcards-com

      Excellent point. PSA dominates in TCG but SGC had made huge inroads on the sports card side.

      SGC had a 24% increase in Sports card market share just last year. This was a planned sale for the owners of sgac to cash in and leave the collector screwed. Bait and switch by sgc.

    The move made by PSA was designed to make money. They wont buy if they thought they would lose money. Cons maybe higher prices for grading since the competition has been reduced. It would be nice if they reduced prices overall to crush the competition especially since now their customers base has increased by two times. More customers lower prices equals crushed competition. But no it will most likely be higher prices for all the customers creating a bigger company. In other words its not how can we reduce prices for our customers it how can we get more customers and more money?

    • @joes622
      @joes622 7 месяцев назад +1

      Thats the thing, they could close sgc tomorrow and "make money" off the liquidation and destruction of competition. This is an age old story. Big companies eat little ones. SGC are sellouts. 7/10 sgc customers were there due to our loathing and pure hatred of PSA. Believe me we aint hanging around.

    • @gotbaseballcards-com
      @gotbaseballcards-com  7 месяцев назад

      @@joes622 I think if they remain independent companies ( which both Presidents have stated), it could be a net positive for SGC as they will get more and more exposure through the marketing machine behind collectors' companies.

    What's this mean for you? It means higher prices to have cards graded. The top 2 now have, what, 90% or more of the market so they can set the price. They're certainly not going to compete with themselves. It's always been this way for any business...less competition equals higher prices.
