Just saw your video was searching for a jelly roll for my granddaughter she loves purple, thank you for your videos and enjoyed the tutorial was very helpful.
I'm glad to know that this video was helpful to you! For the additional sashing and edges I purchased about 2 metres (yards) of purple fabric. Have fun with your project! I wonder what colors you are using?
Thank you for your tutorial on "Violet" and what a cute name you chose, too! I also really loved the video of the trees and water, and even the rain! Likewise I just retired and am about finished with the business end of tgat and am on my way to get in some sewing time. Congrats on your retirement too and happy sewing and crafting! 🎉
Thank you, Lori! I'm glad you also enjoyed the scenes from my area of British Columbia. Congrats on your retirement! One of the greatest things about slowing down on work is being able to really savour the moments for other activities, especially sewing and quilting! Best wishes on your next project.
I'm so glad you enjoyed watching this project unfold! Jelly rolls really are fun to work with, as so much of the color matching and cutting is already done for you. Good luck with your quilt!
It think sashing can make all the difference to bring out the colours within a project! If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to try a jelly roll quilt. They don't take too long given that most of the fabric is already cut.
Thank you for sharing. I am 73 and new to quilting. I think this is the pattern I will use on my next Jelly Roll. Congratulations on your retirement. Two of our daughters are teachers. God bless.
Dee - it's wonderful to hear that you've started quilting at age 73! That can be an inspiration to others. I'm delighted you've decided to try this pattern with your next jelly roll. You'll find it quite easy and fun to do. Good luck to you!
Iove this design i definately want to make this design. Jelly rolls are so much fun. I was wondering though if instead of cutting the extra backing, just cut the extra batting and use the backing folded over as binding. Ive done that tech6on several other quilts and it worked great.
I love your idea of folding over the extra backing as a binding! I've never done this myself before, but I'd like to try it and will definitely keep this in mind for my next quilt! It makes sense to keep things as simple as possible.
Can you do more videos on easy small lap quilts for donation to elder care facilities? I want to start a group to make wheel chair lap quilts to donate. Thanks. LOVED your video!
I'm really glad you enjoyed it, Debbie! There's something so fun about working with pre-cut strips: a great way to be able to create a quilt rather quickly.
After Sewing the 4 strips together from your jelly roll and then sub cutting the strips into blocks what size blocks did you cut for the strips you just sewed together
Hi again, Brian. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. After I sewed the five strips together with the purple sashing between each one, I then added a purple sash around the outside of the quilt.
I am working on my first big (twin size) quilt for my daughters birthday. She loves purple so this was great inspiration. Do you have any tips for how to make a twin size quilt on a very tight budget?
Hi, Sarah. Thanks for watching my video! If your budget is tight, then your best bet would be to find a purple-tinted jelly roll on sale at a local fabric store. I always back my quilts in flannel, which is a very inexpensive fabric. For the joining solid color (edging, etc.), you should be able to find a nice solid color on sale as well. Quilt batting comes in different weights and qualities. I find that they often come on sale at about 50% off at different times, so make sure you wait for a deal before purchasing your batting. Good luck with your quilt! I'd love to see a picture when you're done!
Sorry I am late, but congrats on your retirement! My goodness! You barely look 30 years old! I know you were a great teacher! I hope you will continue on your quilting journey! Your ideas are great and your Violet quilt is really so pretty! Very inspiring tutorial!
This is so beautiful!! I just got my first jelly roll to make my new Granddaughter a baby quilt. I'm so excited. The music is pretty but it did make it a lil hard to hear you, Hun. ❤
Hi there! Thanks for your request. I looked this up online and found the following link that could be helpful to you: teresadownunder.com/2016/12/18/video-tutorial-tumbling-blocks-with-no-y-seams/ Good luck! I'd love to try this myself, as it lets one create this amazing design very simply.
Hi there. Thanks for your question. I believe it would take about 4 x 40-strip jelly rolls to make a king size quilt. You may need some additional fabric for sashing as well. Good luck to you as you tackle more quilting projects. It's a wonderful hobby!
Thank you so much for your response! I appreciate it very much I’m trying to learn everything that is needed material wise to make a quilt. Do you have a video explaining everything you need like backing, batting, etc.
Can you please explain because I'm a little bit lost? You said you sewed the 4 strips together. Then each strap you cut 8 and a 1/2 blocks. But you never said. How many blocks you got from each strip? And if you do the math, you can only get four with one 8 inch block left over And you did say about twenty 8 1/2 inch blocks But when you look at the video, it looks like you got. 24 blocks 4 blocks 1 way in 6 other way. I am just a little confused about that I would very much like to make this, but not until you can answer my question. Cause I am a little confused about it. And what is this lap blanket
Hi there. When I sewed together the strips, I created 5 sets of them. I was able to cut 5 x 8.5" blocks from each strip, as my strips were about 44" long. There was only a tiny skiff leftover from each set. I hope that helps!
Certainly you could! You'd probably end up with some extra bits left over from each strip if you have 4 strips per block that are 2.5 inches wide each - at about 8.5 inches long to create squares.
Would you be so kind as to tell us what the finished sized of your quilt was that included the purple border and binding? Thanks. P.S. Happy retirement!
Hi there! That is a good question to ask! The quilt is about 42 inches wide and about 52 inches long once it's completed. And thanks for the positive retirement wishes!
Here are the measurements of the purple sashing: Short pieces between each block: 15 strips that measure 2.5" x 8.5" Longer strips between each strip of 4 blocks: 4 strips that measure 2.5" x 38.5" Long side borders: 2 strips that measure 3" x 44.5" Long end borders: 2 strips that measure 3" x 48.5" I've tried uploaded a PDF diagram, but I'm not having any luck. Sorry! I usually make each outside border a little longer than the actual measurement required and then trim any extra with my rotary cutter. Good luck with your quilt!
@@craftingwithconfidence8996 I’m comparing number of strips with video and they don’t seem to match with instructions in this response. I see 24 squares, video says 28 squares. Looking at pictures it looks like 5 long strips instead of 4. Still trying to find the 15 (2.5x8.5”) strips because I’m seeing more. Sorry for my confusion but I’m wanting to make a similar jelly roll quilt and I’m new to quilting. Thanks. Quilt is lovely
Sorry to hear the music was distracting for you, Audrey. I usually try to keep it low enough so that one can concentrate on the directions. I'll keep that in mind in my next video.
A year late watching but music is too loud almost covers up your voice. Will check out others to see if improvement in sound. Appreciate your talent and time making these videos
Sorry - occasionally some people find the background music a little distracting, but I try to keep it nice and soft so my directions are easy to follow. I'll be sure to keep in nice and low in my next video.
Hi there! Thanks for your comment! Although I haven't uploaded much lately, I'm currently working on a quilt similar to the violet one - with precut strips - and will probably be posting it in about a week or so. Stay tuned, and thanks for your interest!
I think you have a lot of interesting things to tell us, but if you listen back to your video yourself, I think you will realise that your accompanying music while you’re speaking is not at all helpful, and in places it is actually quite jarring. Maybe, Just to reduce the volume quite a bit may help, but generally speaking, it’s not really at all necessary while addressing us in person! Your quilt looks gorgeous though. Susan x

lovely quilt colors are beautifully matched
Thank you, Lynette! I appreciate your feedback.
Very nice. I like the sashing you used. It certainly brought out the colors within the jelly roll fabric. Thank you for this great idea.

👋🙂🇦🇺❤thanks for sharing with us ….
I suggest about 2 yards (or metres) of the solid fabric.
How much material is needed for the purple sashing and purple boarders??
You'll need about 2 yards (or meters) of the front purple to makes strips and sashing; for the backing you need about 3 yards (or meters). :)
@@craftingwithconfidence8996 is that 2 yards for sashing plus border??

I'd like to see her slow down and explain this more completely for total beginners.
How much fabric do you need to purchase for the background and sashing strips and what is the cutting for the sashing and background fabrics
Hi, Brian. I think I purchased about 2 yards (2 m) of purple fabric for the sashing strips. The rest of the quilt was done with the jelly roll strips.
What size was your finished quilt?
Hi there. The finished quilt was about 42 inches by 62 inches. :)
What did the finished size work out to?
Hi there. The finished quilt turned out to be about 42 inches wide by 62 inches long.
I would like to see a square in a square quilt pattern

Can you make this quilt with jelly roll strips that are 22 inches long
Certainly you could! You'd probably end up with some extra bits left over from each strip if you have 4 strips per block that are 2.5 inches wide each - at about 8.5 inches long to create squares.
Congratulations on your retirement! How many 40 piece jelly rolls would it take to make a queen size quilt?

Can you include a PDF pattern for cutting instructions on how to cut the purple sashing background fabric
Here are the measurements of the purple sashing:
Short pieces between each block: 15 strips that measure 2.5" x 8.5"
Longer strips between each strip of 4 blocks: 4 strips that measure 2.5" x 38.5"
Long side borders: 2 strips that measure 3" x 44.5"
Long end borders: 2 strips that measure 3" x 48.5"

It is not metered. It is mitered. Can you pronounce that correctly???😢
Thanks for the tip, Suzanna! I certainly will correct that the next time I'm saying the word!
It is mitered, which is a term borrowed from the construction industry. A miter box helps a carpenter cut angled edges on a piece of wood.
Music too loud! Very distracting. No need for music. Great tutorials. Thank you’
