Thanks for this short & sweet explanation. What a ridiculous design decision to include bass lines by default. I'm a bass player looking for a home practice tool, and I'm strongly leaning towards the SR16 just so that I don't deal with this crap every single time.
Actually I found these instructions to globally turn off bass volume. Could someone give that a go and see if it works? www.talkbass.com/threads/turn-off-bass-on-an-alesis-sr18.1231403/
Brilliant...just unpacked mine and tried it and like you went through the manuals to try to remove the infernal bass sound. Your short tutorial has probably just saved me days of messing about!! I can't understand why Alesis produce great drumbeat presets and then commit them to a key by adding bass.
Thank you ! I've been trying to figure out how to remove those stupid bass lines since I bought it. I wanted a drum machine, and not a groove box. It's kind of surprising Alesis made it so confusing ?? Alesis products are usually very easy to understand how to work.
Thank you very much for the time and effort. It was very informative. I might add a slight usage variation where somebody might use the SR18 as a MIDI slave. You should also go to SYSTEM SETUP>BASE IN [OFF] in order to stop triggering bass from the master. Midi triggering will occur regardless of the mute Bass setting. I hope it helps :)
Thanks dude. I was going through a pattern edit "fix" that didn't fix shit, and the frigging bass was back every time I changed patches. Your fix is much faster and more global. Just have to use your fix every time I turn it on. Thanks again; you ROCK.
Good video thinking of getting one of these. As someone that plays drums though I don’t get venues saying they don’t want a drummer cause they’re too loud. If the drummer is too loud then they’re a bad drummer. I play an acoustic kit every week with a piano and acoustic guitar and it’s fine. I just play quieter which any drummer should be able to do. I listen and adjust and as result I’m no louder the piano and every instrument can be heard perfectly well.
I thought by pluging the guitar in the back it would change bass keys notes as you play. So why have the bass run if it's stuck in one key. Other then that I've got to get use to it
Does it work strait away when you connect it to RC300? Do you have to set the looper up in a specific way? I have SDRUM pedal i wanna use with the RC. it recognises the rhythm as the tempo light is flashing in synched but when i lay down loops it deteriorates doesn't stay in synch. Any ideas why?
Presets 4, 83, 87, 160, and 98 are in 3/4 time. Copy these to a User pattern and adjust the beats as you like. There are already some User patterns in waltz time, such as 34, and 66.

Well, me too😂 but once I found it, I had to share it with the world.
Thank you!! I recently got one of these and the bass was driving me crazy. Can't wait to try this out!

My friend had this with no instruction book ....thank you so much for posting ..

Intstructions at 1:46 Hold Mute, then tap Bass button, and/or Perc button.
Thanks mate!
Just got an SR 18 and I was wondering how to eliminate the bass guitar. Thanks very much!
Thanks soooo much for showing us how to mute the bass. I was getting frustrated trying to figure it out...
This was Awesome and your right, it wasn't long. Just what I needed. Short and Sweet.

Thank you so much! You saved me a lot of wasted time. Live long and prosper.
I just turned mine one for the first time and I was like mute bass mute bass. Argh thank you so much Sir
Brilliant - thank you so much for this tutorial! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. FYI, this is cleary explained in the Reference Manual ;)
Awesome!! Thanks for this short tutorial. Just what I needed.
I guess Im quite off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream new tv shows online ?
@Lennox Ridge i use Flixzone. Just google for it =)
Yes! Short, direct, perfect!
Thanks, man... You saved me a lot of time to search how to do that...
Clear and concise! Great machine.
thanks a million. frustrating to say the least that something so basic is not mentioned in the manual, which is total crap in general.
You can also copy drum kit to a user kit and change the output of the bass to aux output and save the kit.
Thank you a bunch and a bunch, you really helped me out heavely with your straight to the point video tutorial.
Thank you for the help, thgis is a really big deal, you're amazing and you're right it is an incredible drum machine
I can import and create Rythem with my own wave files?
Oh my God! So easy, Thank you so much!!
Could have been 15 seconds with room to spare, but thanks!

Thanks a lot. Gracias from Mardrid ;-)
1:45 to see how
Thanks Much! Kinda' makes you wonder why they didn't include something in the global settings to mute the bass.

Not sure why. I just run it right into the RC 300 to lay down my drum track and it works great that way.
So....how do I eliminate everthing but the Kick????
Very helpful indeed!
Omg thank you so much!!!
Thank you very much!
What key are the bass lines in...can that be determined?
Sorry I’m just getting to you. I don’t know. That is so weird that it is on there anyway because I haven’t figured out if you can change the key.
Thank you!
Thanks very much. So how do I change the time signature to 3/4 time? Can't seem to find that in the manual.
Presets 4, 83, 87, 160, and 98 are in 3/4 time. Copy these to a User pattern and adjust the beats as you like. There are already some User patterns in waltz time, such as 34, and 66.
When recording a new track, you should be able to adjust the quantize feature.
.....That's done in real time mode.
Can you link to the tutorial you listened to?
Not sure about that
Thx
Too bad Alesis doesn't have an override to permanently shut off the bass and percussion which are worthless.
Amen to that.
que as dicho,no a esplicado nada ,no me enterado..eso seria por que ablas en ingles.
Yes I do 👍
Thank you for sharing, very clear explanation!.
