    Muchas Gracias Tony. Nobody ever talks about taking the Circanias from Madrid airport to the heart of the city. We have been traveling to Spain regularly (25+ times) for over 2 decades. Just a few years ago we discovered how easy and quick it was to take the train instead of the subway. We usually stay near SOL so transfer at Chamartin to a train that stops in SOL. No one who does tourist videos talks about this much if at all and I don't know why. I thoroughly enjoy your videos which are very informative. I just recently discovered this channel after struggling with your Spanish language channel as my Spanish is not very good but improving daily. Keep up the good work!

      Hello there, many thanks for you email and be very welcome to the channel. The airport train is also our favorite option to leave the airport. So many people focus exclusively on the metro, as if there weren't other alternatives. With the launch of free bus line 001, if we are staying along the Gran Vía and are travelling with cabin-size luggage, we take the train and then the 001 to our accommodation. Couldn't be simpler and cheaper. All the best!

    Hola Tony! I am heading to Spain in a few weeks and I am flying into Madrid to start my adventure. I am wondering, which method is best to get into the city? Train (Renfe) or Metro? I am staying near the Callao Metro station, and I have watched your 3 videos on the Metro, the Renfe train, and how to get to Callao (Puerta del Sol/Gran Via) and wondered what is your preferred and most cost effective method of getting into that area. Thank you for all of your wonderful videos! They have helped me SO MUCH with planning my vacation and helping me feel more confident as a solo traveler in Spain.

      Great hotel, Kare. You could take metro line 1 to Sol and change to metro line 3, that will take you to Plaza de España, where your hotel is. Or, if you are traveling with luggage, you could take a taxi or ride sharing service.

    Check in advance if there is any construction/maintenance work on your line. In Aug 2019 we were trying to use C1 to go from MAD to Piramides station but due to construction we had to go by Metro rest of the way. We used the very ticket machines you featured to buy our tickets but they did not tell us in advance trip was not direct. We did not know why and due to language barriers found it very difficult to reroute. Thankfully we just had carry on bags to go on many detours. Had I known in advance I could not go direct I would have gone Metro taking the 3 different lines needed. Next time I will try again to use Renfe but will have plan B ready to go.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  2 года назад

      Thanks Dave. I would extend your valuable advice to many cities on earth. We've encountered ongoing construction work in Barcelona, to mention a Spanish city, or other European capitals. It can happen with the train, it can happen with the metro as well (Madrid is notorious for closing metro lines for long periods of time). Work tends to happen during the summer months. Having a plan B is always a great idea. As for the lack of support for tourists (information only in Spanish), it will never cease to amaze us how a country that receives so many tourists ignores their needs to such an incredible extent.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal

    Watching this while on my last day and flying back to Dublin tomorrow. The signage inside airport is not service user friendly. A little disorganised. When Aer Lingus arrived in T4, I keep following the exit sign and no choice but to take the underground transfer tram. I ended in somewhere T1/T2 and exit the border control there and also took the Metro from there to main town Madrid.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  2 года назад

      We were a bit confused. The only underground transfer train is from T4 to T4s. From T4 to T1/T2 you can only get by shuttle bus. See ruclips.net/video/a0_-PL3nLes/видео.html

    Muchas Gracias Tony but I have a question for you if you don't mind. We want to take the train from T4 terminal to Barcelona. We want to pay for my tickets in advance since I believe this way will cost us less plus we want to avoid the extra hassle of the vending machines. We are a couple travelling from Greece. I'm not sure if the train stops first to Atocha station and then I have to switch train for Barcelona. The Omio app that I'm using doesn't have clear instructions. I know that the train goes as far as Barcelona-Sants and from there I'll have to get a different train to Gracia station. I would appreciate it if you could help me with that. Thanks!

    Great video, I am travelling to Madrid from London, then onto Sevilla by train so this really helps with the transfer to Madrid Airport. One thing I just found out is Renfe allow complimentary travel in Madrid using their trains as I have bought a long distance ticket from Atocha to Sevilla. Is this correct? And if so do I only need to show my Madrid to Sevilla train ticket on my phone to the ticket inspectors? Rather than buy a ticket from the machine. Edit I see you covered this later in your video. I will need to go to a ticket machine and look for combinado cercinias. Will I then need to scan my phone or enter a ticket number?

    thx for a great video. I'm arriving in terminal 4 from an international flight from United States. I'm staying near Atocha Station, so the train looks like a great way to get there based on convenience and cost. Why use the ticket machine that's in Spanish that I can't read? Using a contactless credit card at the turnstile seems like the easiest and most convenient way to pay. thank you, again.

      Hello there, if you are arriving from the States your plane will land at T4S (you will have to reach T4 as explained here: ruclips.net/video/O-wOd_MS7Go/видео.html ). We were at the airport a few days ago and forgot to check whether the English-language version of the machine is up and running, but you're absolutely right, the contactless card is the way to go.
