Yep!! I’m not entirely sure who approves or declines decisions made at Mazda, but they need fired immediately tbh. I’m positive they put too much unnecessary time, energy, and money into the CX-70 when all they needed to do was… nothing. Just make a two row variant of the CX-90 and boom, done. They could’ve taken all of that time, energy, and money and put it towards oh I don’t know, maybe a new Mazda 3, or a new RX-7, or and new Mazda 6 that a huge majority of the Mazda fandom has been begging for for years now! They get so much right up until the last second and then fumble the bag out of nowhere for no apparent reason at all.

350 hp is definitely believable. The engine is about 24% larger at 1.6L as opposed to the last 1.3L. That Renesis engine made 238hp from 1.3L 20 years ago. Even assuming no advancement and the same output per liter, that would equate to about 295hp. Add to that small electric motors and I believe 350 is not a problem achieving. At just under 3000lbs, it would also be right on target with previous RX-7s competing with Nissan Z and Toyota Supras with less power, but equal performance and a lighter, more sports car feel and handling.

350hp between 1.66l rotary and electric motor seems feasible. The Renesis (rx8) made 232hp as an NA 1.3l so the increased displacement plus the electric motor makes the 350hp estimate realistic. I doubt we see a turbo for this application but would welcome it :)

Pop up headlights would be nearly impossible due to pedestrian safety regulations. They'd have to do what I did for my friend and design a smooth sleeve that pops up over the headlights. I designed it in autoCad and sent it to a friend who used the design on a chevy prototype he was part of the design squad for. The engineers loved it, but the company heads in charge of the c8 corvette said it would be impossible to do at a production scale due to the complexity of the vacuum formed pop up covers and how the electric motor would have to pivot to allow them to move freely.
There's a concept drawing of the c8 that had my pop ups.

I'm not sure the 1.6 even with the motors would cut it if it's meant to be a competitor with the likes of the Supra and Nissan Z. If this is an RX9 however, it would make more sense to make it a higher end car with the assist motors etc but then it need to be able to put out at least 400HP so I don't see why they can't do a 3 rotor hybrid since it's unlikely they will use a turbo setup.

Then to have traditional gas powered engine to be able to go long distances. Which in Texas, are really long distances. lol Keep the car in neutral, and drive on the eclectic front, then engage the engine when the batteries discharge, or for extra power. Also being able to shut off/disengage the front motors, and go full RWD would be great for some hooning fun.

A new RX7 weighing 3000 pounds with 350 hp would be great, especially if it does include front motors for regen and torque vectoring. Personally I would like to see some sort of plugin hybrid so I can drive 5 or 10 miles without needing to burn any gasoline, and I don't mind the idea of using the rotary as a range extender without it being connected to the wheels. But I agree with the others who said they aren't getting their hopes up until we can actually buy one.
