  • We went to check out a different dump today and have a quick dig and found a few lovely bottles, a little bit later than usual but well worth a look and might have to head back there again as it has a lot of potential. Let me know in the comments if you think I should do some more digs over there 🙂👍

    I loved the cute little bottles…especially the one with a pouring lip! That site looks fantastic, but I like to hear the sounds of the digging and scraping in your other site. And watch the bottles being pulled out. Often when you pull out broken crockery or statuettes I’m shouting at the screen “keep it!” Because I know people make things from them.
    Look forward to your digs 👍🏻

      Yes it is a cute one! My filming was not too great in this video, I forgot my tripod and there was so many bottles it was hard to tell which ones were good until it was already out. I always keep the figurines, I sold a few on my shop so I hope I will get to see what they get turned in to 😁👍

      @@VintageParagonUk You never know...I love that era of tip especially when you get the beer bottles...makes me wonder if they were drunk to celebrate loved ones returning from war or to help get through the time they were away!! Very emotive. I'm also a huge deco fan...so any crockery or glass that is obviously deco.

    The great thing about about the later tips is just the amount of stuff there is. The other day I spent about an hour in our local woods and only dug a hole about 3 feet square and two feet deep but it yielded approx 18 bottles and jars - so you don't get bored! I only brought six home but they have all cleaned up very nicely with practically no sickness.

    • @VintageParagonUk
      @VintageParagonUk  3 года назад +1

      You can say that again, it was packed with so much junk! there was the odd nice bit in there but it was really slow going trying to be careful. I will go back again as it was a lot of fun still. my bro took home about 20 Bovrils 😂

    • @davefoster543
      @davefoster543 3 года назад

      @@VintageParagonUk I think that with a bit of imagination there has got to be something that can be done with a surfeit of Bovril of Paste jars. For example we use a lot of paste jars for rooting plant cuttings on our kitchen window sill.

    Question: here in the States seems the "bottle diggers" who also walk old creeks & streams, go absolutely nuts, over "Hutchinson" bottles. I'm sure you know what they are. Does Britain have a similar bottle, or are the "Cod" bottles, the equivalent? Interesting stuff. I took the advise of the Mudpies & subscribed. I also follow Northern Mudlarks, & of course Sy. Very interesting stuff indeed.

    • @VintageParagonUk
      @VintageParagonUk  3 года назад +1

      We do have Huchinsons here but they aren't very common, I think the Codd bottles are our equivalent here, who doesn't like a bottle that rattles 😂😂 They are all really good channels, I also follow them, they all find some really great stuff 😁👍

      I don't think I have been called posh before 😂 maybe it is the Oxfordshire accent? the weather has been terrible, I tried filming and the wind noise was so bad I am not sure I will make it into a video! Good luck with your detecting, it is a lot of fun once you find a nice spot to go to 😁

    Would you be so kind and share location? I’m new in this hobby and I would like to start but I don’t know any location.
    Thank you in advance

    • @VintageParagonUk
      @VintageParagonUk  3 года назад +1

      Hi Luke, I am afraid I cannot share the location, I don't think many diggers will give away their dig spots publicly or the next day it would be cleared out. The best thing to do is look at old maps, sidebysidemaps.com is a good place and look for any old quarries, ponds or ditches that are no longer there and go and see if you can spot any bits of glass, pottery or ash. in those days they used any hole to put their rubbish into. Brambles and stinging nettles like the acidity of the soil on dumps so it is a good sign if you see those. good luck mate 👍
