Sight, light, then sling.
First accessory I would get would be a state that doesn't infringe on my rights to own such a rifle. (Cough, um.. what...) I mean a big drum mag.
😂 I’m in California and not gonna lie I feel you
I’m somewhat of a newbie to the world of guns and prepping and I just wanted to say, I love your channel!!
There are so many “influencers” pushing high-priced, top of the line gear. I appreciate the budget-conscious, common sense approach to your videos, you’ve really helped me to wade through the BS and get an idea of what’s really necessary and what’s not. Thanks and keep up the good work!!!
thanks for joining our community don't let those gatekeepers prevent you from enjoying your constitutional right
My opinion...
1st: Sling --- it's the "holster" for your rifle.
2nd: Extra mags (work your way up to at least 6, more is better)
3rd: Something to hold those extra mags (shoulder bag, belt pouches, chest-rig, whatever) that you can grab-n'-go.
4th - Nth: anything else, in any order.
The plain iron sights, handguards and butt stock are serviceable and will do you just fine until you decide to upgrade.
Before you sink a wad of cash in upgrading your rifle, I would rather you get a pistol (dbl-stack 9mm striker-fired) and/or shotgun (Remington/Mossberg pump 12ga).
I like Glock for magazine compatibility, overall reliability, and widespread adoption but most any modern striker fired pistol from a major manufacturer will do.
Rem/Mossy pump 12 ga for similar reasons, overall reliability, and widespread adoption.
Opinions will vary.
Agreed,definitely a sling first.
Sling , mags, white light, training.
Since yours already has front and rear sights I’d say a good quality sling followed by white light.
As far as the Gucci gunners go, all I can say is that you can buy the cheapest ar you can find and you are less than $200 away from having a better rifle than what I carried into 371 combat missions. Yes I had 3rd burst available on the selector switch, but honestly I only ever used it for training, qualifications and function checks. Every single 2 way firing range I took part in I used single round burst. 100%. That being said, buy the happy median between what you can afford that has the options you want. I have a colt a PSA, a smith & Wesson, and a diamondback. The diamond back is the only one not collecting dust. I’m a grumpy old man and prefer not to rely on equipment that requires batteries that may die or corrode. That’s just me.
You mean you weren't issued Noveske rifles? You make a very good point as it comes to the fact that you were able to do your job of defending freedom with less than boutique rifles. Functionality is what counts and no one has to buy a Daniel Defense in order to have a functional weapon. To your last comment about not relying on equipment that relies on batteries, I'm in the same boat as you however I do appreciate the advantages of red dot sights, but since I have an astigmatism, I'm switching to prism sights which don't require batteries plus they provide a clear reticle for my eyes. All that being said, I always make sure all my rifles are equipped with open sights, then I start looking into accessories that can give me an advantage such as white lights... Sure, the batteries can fail, but adding them doesn't take away from your open sights being there if needed. BTW, I also train with open sights as to remain proficient with them.
Something I neglected to mention, I don't own an Aimpoint. an Eotech or a Trijicon. I've found much more affordable and reliable options.
Before I go, I'd like to thank you for your service.
Having been a US Army soldier, my "philosophy of use" began with being able to reliably and accurately sling 5.56 lead at my enemies *(foreign AS WELL AS domestic)* right out of the box. That meant my (primary) priorities included iron sights, hand guards with heat shields, and a good sling.
My M&P15 came with irons (M-BUS rear and front post), as well as MOE carbine hand guards (with heat shields), both of which made me very happy.
Shortly after, I added a Magpul MS3 sling, which I absolutely love.
*Now,* my (secondary) priority set includes a decent light (Surefire or Streamlight) and a Sig Romeo 5 red dot w/ Juliet 4 magnifier... And not necessarily in that order
Thanks for the comment and for your service!
@@PilotPatriot My pleasure, on both counts...
Red dot, sling, pistol grip, and butt stock.
A good sturdy sling and attachment points for that sling is very important!
Helpful, thanks for making!
My first 3 ARs were Radicals, so flip up sights were the first thing I bought, followed by red dots. I ended up with a Sig Romeo 5 on one and Cyelee's on the other 2.
Cyelee makes great sights
Excellent video as always!👍 Thank you.
Convertible single/dual point sling, sights(offset if using optics), optics and foregrip.
First "accessory" was ammunition to feed the thing. On magazines: I have black mags for ball ammo, and tan mags for the frangibles I keep for home defense use. I have a couple mags with green electrical tape around them loaded with steel-core, but my needs for that level of penetration aren't high, so it's only a couple. I want pre-loaded mags to be easy to recognize with little or no light!
Best first accessory will vary by user, but mine was probably (as you suggest) a good sling for hands-free carrying, followed by (as you also suggest) a red dot sight (age-related presbyopia is a thing, y'all!). I reckon that spare magazines are good to have, of course.
My own "scary black rifle" has been fitted with FDE-colored stock, pistol grip, and handguard, just to break up the black. I added a MagPull angle grip to my foregrip, solely to help me keep my left hand placement where I wanted it.
I may, over time, add a light. Or I may not. I don't figure to need this thing for much more than a range gun, even if it's easy to pull from the safe should the home defense need arise.
I like changing handguard to something you can attach lights and accessories to. But if budget is tight, gaffers tape works.
Decent optic $100-$300, sling (single or two points), Light (got to see what you are shooting if it's in home defense)
Mine came with a 30 round mag and magpul forward hand guard so I got a magpul m4 sling with m-loc. Now it time for optics.
Black Scout Survival is my homie! Great guy man.
First thing to swap is that handrail. If it just comes with the classic round handrail get something better.
Great job, very good video, thanks.
Sight, light, sling,
thank you. very helpful. new subscriber
704 tactical, Mr guns n gear both highlight deals on optics. If your budget is tight, theres some for under 50 that are quality enough to do the job.
Great video brother
I bought iron sights for my AR-15 first, with an angle foregrip. Just so I could take it to the range and sight it in. I waited to get my Vortex striker fire red dot until I was comfortable with field stripping the rifle and cleaning it. Because the last thing you want to do is buy a 1,000 dollar optical scope then break it when you disassemble your rifle for the first time. Get comfortable with breaking down the rifle and using the iron sights, then buy your optical scope last.
Extra mags first and second flashlight 🔦 or sights if you don’t have any
After basic iron sights you need a light (can't shoot when you can't see) after that a basic sling. after that go crazy.
Like all vids with the AR even if you own a hand full of them welcome every body view of all accessories to add on 💯💯
yeah thats why i'm asking you but if had to guess im guessing a shoulder sling and a scope or sites of some sort
Great video
I went with iron sights and a 10. And 20 round mag for add-ons. Next will be a 2 pt. Sling.
Only thing ill spend good bread on is the sights, stock, and trigger
Base model of the the S&W will need a new hand guard with heat shield right of the bat. I smoked mine the first time I shot it.
#1 bcm extractor o-ring kit, extra mags, cleaning kit & lube, ammo ammo ammo
You are like Paul Harrell, pulling rifles from behind desk, like Paul does with pulling pistols from his jacket pockets😏
My first choice on that particular rifle would be ammo and mags
You already have iron sights, so get it sighted in so it’s ready and then think about #2
If it didn't come with open sights or a rear sight, that would be my first choice.
New subscriber and looking at my first AR-15 as a complete new to these. Have you done a review on Bear Creek Arsenals AR-15?
Also can you use flip up iron sites through magnification for red dot? Great stuff, thank you!
Yes you can use flipup sight through most red dots. I don't have any experience with bear creek
Great channel partner
Always have iron sights
For back up
decide what its for.. home protection, range, or Skill based build.. Mine is for home protection, so i bought light/laser/ 20 rnd mag, and 1x2x optic. very pleased with my decision.
Forward grip, sling, light.
1st part, Hogue Grip!
ahh i said sling and then optics! do i get a pizw next mags and maybe a different flash guard or muzzle end of some type
@8:35 what tool are you using to get the old hang guard off
Just brought me a knock off ACOG for my budget I love it
Bought one for my first AR over 10 years ago and still rocking. Came with a red dot mounted on top. Great site for the money.
Optics, sling, torch,
Helpful video. Need.to add more lighting to the room, stuff was hard to see. Couple floor lamps on either side of the table would do it.
I second this.
#1. Change the flat aluminum trigger guard. If your new rifle cuts you, thats not fun. 12 dollar magpul trigger guard.
Thats your #1??????? Interesting
red dot. Thank you very much.
“Gucci Guys” 🤣🤣
I had issues with my Romeo 5 thought is was the optic, nope it was the Energizer batteries I bought, all 6 were bad even though the dates on the packages were good. 😐
light / red dot / sling
Totally new and this video suits me. I'm thinking iron sights, mags, and a soft case for taking it to the range if that counts as an accessory.
I'm new too, and this is pretty much my plan. Then feed it until I'm good with it.
Great start… But a weapon light is really more important than a case. My brother was a newb about 15 years ago and almost shot his teenage daughter who broke into a window trying not to get caught for being out way past curfew.
@@MacPro8CoreMan Sounds like a personal problem. The problem with a weapon light is you have to point the weapon wherever you want the light to go, and brandishing a weapon and pointing it (and the light) at someone who is also armed is justifiable self defense on their part.
Exchange the hand guard to be able to use optics And light
First thing you need is ammo.
Second is trigger discipline!!!
That's it have fun & be safe...
First should be sights
Midwest hand guards better be good at 300 dollars.
What is that strap on your stock ? That is around the part that adjusts it
A Ranger band...Basically just a biece of bicycle innertune cut into rubber bands.
For the first time ar15 owner I'd probably keep it real simple depending on what it comes with. Stick with a 16" barrel or less for a first ar15. The temptation to put on a magnified optic is real and if you don't have the budget it should be avoided.
First thing is get is a good optic and mount. Holosun aems, sig Romeo 5 and a reptilia lower 1/3 or 1.93 mount or a PA 1x or 2x prism scope if your astigmatism is bad.
Next is a ergonomics. A good grip, stock, and handguard. I like reptilia pistol grip, bcm stocks and a Geissele rail.
I'd only put a light and sling on a gun I already vetted and designated as a home defense or fighting gun.
Tactical light, sling,mags
Do you always keep the magazine full? If so, doesn't the spring get ruined after being compressed all the time?
Yes to the first question, no to the second
Your magazine spring can be compressed for a decade and still not wear out you’ll be fine keepin them mags loaded 👍🏼
The first thing to change is definitely that basic pistol grip, change it to a magpul grip or a timber creek for those who like skeletonize grips
First thing????? Lol. Before sights, sling, light, everything you would change the grip??????????? Interesting
@@PilotPatriot I agree with you a sling and optic for me are right off the bat needed
@@PilotPatriotjust look at dudes name bro
Sight first
First I’m a big fan.
1)quality drop-in trigger 2)A5 buffer system 3)optics 4)quality barrel 5)magpul MS4 Gen.2 sling or a quality charging handle..or if it’s a pistol build a compensator with a blast can..first time I shot an AR pistol it just had the factory birdcage and the concussion and the bright flash was extremely distracting
2:05
All beginners should learn on a mil spec trigger that comes with the rifle. Leave the first rifle plain Jane, and just buy a second rifle with everything you want on it.
Light
Buttstock-handguard-muzzle-red dot/optic-trigger
3:04 for the first item
First accessory should be a sling or light in my opinion
I am an Extreme Newbie . 1st time buyer . My AR did not come with sites or scope . So I am going to say Rear & Front Sites or Scope of some kind .
Sights to be honest
I was issued a M-16 colt in vietnam in 5.56mm , no one liked it MATEL/ black rifle tonka. The M-14 is the king of battle in not a beefed up 22 cal. veteran.
Sights
First is sights second sling third ammunition
Been through so many videos and no one says diamondback db15
Soft Case
Sling
Ammo and mags
I’ve heard sometimes there are issues with AR-15 mags, do you recommend any larger capacity type mags? Thanks!
Standard 30rd Pmags from magpul seem to very reliable, not sure about the specialty high capacity ones
Im lucky my mom is a LEO dispatcher my hole life so I’ve grew up around the officers and my buddy’s dad is the LT and is a range master so he told me everything to put on my AR
First time AR owner so i got what may sound like a really dumb question to many of you....I bought a basic model with nothing but a pickatinny rail on it. If i buy both a red dot and back up iron sights, if the red dot fails and i need to use the iron sights, will i be able to sight thru the rd? If not that seems pretty lame I'd have to call time out in the middle of a fire fight with home intruders in order to remove the rd. I think the bad guys would win that fight!!!
Probably. Especially if home intruders. Don’t really need to aim that close🤣 just general direction is fine. A gun light is a must tho
Optic
Optics
Mags & ammo......
That’s doesn’t count
IMo keep it simple hate when you have everything but a fish bubbler, coffee maker
WML
Keep it simple. New to the game, decide what your weapons application will be. A home defense weapon will be different than something you're doinking metal with at 300 or taking hogs out at 200. Always learn iron sights first. Learn the basics and shoot the damn thing. Buy yourself some range ammo; that doesn't include steel cased and go nuts. Go Gucci once you have a complete understanding of the platform. Know that the most expensive items fail just like the cheapest...don't fall into that rabbit hole of $$$ is better than $$. It's nonsense...more commonly known as marketing.
ammunition
bullets lol
I'm a Tightwad I'm always Budget Freindly
I bought a red dot first
aimpoint
Leave it the way it is, and run only iron sights for your first one. Don't add anything to it, just buy another one with everything you want on it.
Not sure you've got the "budget" idea right in your head.
What do you mean?
It's not a barbie doll. You put only what is necessary. Iron sights and a sling.
ONLY????????????????
I mean I agree you need to start with and train with only whats necessary but...only irons and sling....what if it gets dark outside lol???
The AR15 may not be a Barbie doll but it's definatly Legos!!!
Common sense would be the first
First, that is the wrong version AR to buy. It has that huge front sight that blocks all optics. So much has to be thrown away. It needs a new rail system, rear stock, etc. Buy a better AR to start & waste less money.
lol First...read the title of the video, specifically the word "BUDGET". Also, this is about the FIRST 5 accessories you NEED. Id say a sling, iron sights, magazines, and a light are far more important than a freefloat rail and gucci stock, those are just icing on the cake.
I also dissagree with you about the front sight. While i understand its not fancy, A fixed front sight is certainly the most reliable and it doesnt "block" all optics, it will either cowitness OR lower 1/3 cowitness depending on the optic you choose. And like i said the primary word hear is "BUDGET", and since most "BUDGET" ARs come with that style front sight, thats what we demonstrated in the video.
I have other videos about higher end ARs and Accessories....that is not this video. But thanks for your input anyway
Good video when you got into it. 11 and a half minutes total and 3 minutes wasted on what the video is not about and disclaimers. More concise and to.the point please.
All this AR hype is pure bullshit. You need to get it in your mind that you are not a highly trained combat operator and never will be unless you join the military and receive that training. Now, buy a plain jane AR with iron sights already on the rifle. Next buy a good sling and at least 3 mags. Now buy at least 1000 rounds of ammo and go to the range and shoot it all up. At this point you have broken in the rifle and know how to actually use it safely, hopefully. DO NOT fall for all the bullshit about stuff to make your gun better. Only you using it and practice make it better. A $400.00 gun is just as deadly as a $5000.00 rifle when in the right hands. If SHTF tomorrow 99.9 percent of all these internet "experts" will either be dead in the first day or two scared to get out from under the bed. All the training in the world gets you ready for when the enemy shoots back Remember that.
Fix your lighting, also repent of your sins.
