The McMahon Line was first drafted in 1913, and the treaty to ratify them (Simla Accords) was never signed by the Republic Of China(ROC) who had just overthrown the Qing dynasty. There was no such thing as the McMahon Line in 1890, and China isn't disputing where the Line was drawn, she's disputing the validity of the Line in its entirety. The primary Indian claim is that the ROC did sign the Simla Accords because a British official called Olaf Caroe fabricated a narrative in 1938 where the ROC signed the Simla Accords (they didn't) and ceded parts of Tibet to the Raj. In 1963 a British diplomat compared a pre-1938 treaties compendium with the post-Caroe compendium and found that Caroe had changed the note on the ROC's not signing the Simla Accords into one where the ROC signed it and considers the Indo-Tibetan border finalised. Nehru picked up a copy of Caroe's fabricated compendium so he got the impression that his country was legally entitled to more than she actually was. Compounding this was the US' decision to add fuel to the flames by declaring the McMahon Line as the legitimate boundary in an attempt to contain the spread of communism, despite reservations from the US State Department and protests from the fiercely non-communist Chiang Kai-Shek, leader of the ROC. However, we all know Nehru irreversibly altered his country's relations with China in 1962, so by 1963, when the fabrication was discovered, it was already too late to stem the tide of Indian nationalism based on the false compendium entry. And that leaves us with the situation today, in the aftermath of a British attempt to de jure carve out a piece of Chinese territory which failed but had some success de facto, then a British fabrication of her failed attempt to carve out Chinese territory, then an Indian acceptance of the British fabrication alongside American endorsement, and a Chinese refusal to accept the fabrication as anything remotely legal. Some Indians recognise that they don't actually have a legal claim to South Tibet, so they've begun using a different claim in that the people living in South Tibet want to be part of India more than China; in essence, a claim based on the principle of self-determination. This is India's secondary claim. However, as history has shown time and time again (Catalonia, Confederate States, Taiwan, Corsica, Chechnya, Tibet, Naxalites), without the permission of the larger body, a smaller section of the population will not be allowed to separate from its original country regardless of what they want. A much more detailed account of the McMahon Line and its history is available here, written by Peter Lee who, contrary to impressions given by his surname, is not at all Chinese.
The earliest Tibetan historical texts identify the Zhang Zhung culture as a people who migrated from the Amdo region into what is now the region of Guge in western Tibet. Zhang Zhung is considered to be the original home of the Bön religion. By the 1st century BCE, a neighboring kingdom arose in the Yarlung valley, and the Yarlung king, Drigum Tsenpo, attempted to remove the influence of the Zhang Zhung by expelling the Zhang's Bön priests from Yarlung. He was assassinated and Zhang Zhung continued its dominance of the region until it was annexed by Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century.
The history of a unified Tibet begins with the rule of Songtsen Gampo (604-650 CE), who united parts of the Yarlung River Valley and founded the Tibetan Empire. He also brought in many reforms, and Tibetan power spread rapidly, creating a large and powerful empire. It is traditionally considered that his first wife was the Princess of Nepal, Bhrikuti, and that she played a great role in the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet. In 640, he married Princess Wencheng, the niece of the Chinese emperor Taizong of Tang China
Tibet never belonged to China. It was a part of China when China herself was under Mongol rule . Tibet had a claim over only the Tawang region which she relinquished in 1914. There was no Tibet/China south of the Himalayas. The Mcmahon Line is not an arbitrary line drawn illogically like the Radcliffe Line. It is based on the internationally recognized principle of watershed demarcation with the boundary running along the crest of the mountains. It's base on geographically sound principles. Neither geographically nor historically nor culturally has Arunachal Pradesh been a part of Tibet. Tibet is a plateau to the north of Himalayas and Arunachal lies yo the South of this chain much like Nepal , Bhutan, Himachal or Uttarakhand. Hence it is a part of India .And the people there speak Hindi neither Mandarin nor Tibetan . And have chosen their representatives in electing after election thus reposting their faith in India. Therefore India will fight to the end if it ever comes to Arunachal. Make no mistake. China better not start a war with India over what is a non negotiable matter for India. Even if its a nuclear war.
There are rules for war and this is why no country can win wars any more. Israel ignoring the rules and that’s why it’s a genocide and even then they’re failing a total occupancy of Gaza…. Another issue is people are not willing to join the army, people are sick of wars… only Governments talk of wars… In reality if you take out politics, Chinese and Indians get along…. There is a country which I forgot the name where Russians and Ukrainians fled to because of the war and they get along there no problem…
There is a reason why the Indian government is not willing to talk it through… China never agreed where the border lies but the British push this to the Indians and they took it as the border, so the Indian government is stuck with this narrative and can’t look weak in front of it’s own people, only way is to push forward and claim all of it rather than negotiate something realistic…

Sir, your analysis is fair but a worst case scenario. In truth, China's eye ball is on Taiwan, and the tussle in South China Sea, because these are of strategic interests. So China cannot commit so much resource to border issue with India. In fact, the border issue between India and China can be attributed to 2 fundamental issues: 1. both sides have inherited poorly marked borders from British Empire and ROC/ Qing Dynasty. 2. Tibet issue. If both sides have political wisdom, border issues can be resolved. May peace prevail!
Modi in 2018(?) solved the border disputes. He colored in all disputed territories as sovereign India on their new map. This is what caused the flare up & nothing's changed.

Focus should be to resolve the border issue. Otherwise this issue will be just passed on from one generation to another in both countries and peoples of 2 most populated countries having not good relationship is not good for Asia and for overall world especially developing world as they look forward to both India and China for collaboration in future. Border issue is very easy so resolve. China wants connectivity while India wants security. By declaring certain disputed areas as buffer zones or economic zones or no military zones this problem can be easily resolved. There is already an agreement that in areas where there is settled population there will be no changes so Arunachal Pradesh is non negotiable. Same way India must uphold the One China Policy which it has always done and this will help create mutual trust. Most important thing would be POK. India should let go of POK as it's never gonna come and let's accept this reality and move on. Convert it into international boundary and make kashmir whatever we have into its best version should be the focus. Otherwise POK is also just politicised from both side of political spectrum whether internally or externally. Let's show maturity and move forward. If we can solve these issues we can focus on areas of economic development which is more important to every Indian and Pakistani and Chinese and Global South. Peace 🙏
I don't think China will accept that proposed solution and neither will India. Both countries has grown large enough and so does their ego or self perceived strength. I think peaceful resolution possibility is basically over without huge status change in one or both countries, e.g. one country suddenly in political and social turmoil and is on a civil war. China resolved its border with Russia soon after it broke up post soviet era. At least the serious discussion started then and eventually resolved a few years later. China has also resolved its border issue with most other small nations along its border because the parties were clear on who they are dealing with. Countries backed by the US such as the philipines and Japan won't resolve territorial dispute until the withdrawal of the US from western pacific. US backing also create self perceived strength and ego. I think both nations understood this and both are waiting for the other to suffer large calamity before starting negotiation in earnest. Few nation will sacrifice an inch of their territory if they think they are superior or equal to the others. In fact, China is probably one of the few major nation that is willing to compromise on territories through negotiation. But even then, I don't think the indian side will compromise.
Without the border issues alive, India does not have good excuse: 1) to keep distant from China, 2) to play a significant role in Quad, thus asking more tecknology och financial support from the west to develop its economy as so called "other alternative".
India didn't have any border issue before Xi took over. The border accord between India and China was going well till Xi's regime. India had no choice asking help from West

A simplified position (that may also be supported by advanced analysis) may show that there is very low probability of full fledged war with China in next 25/50 years. However, there is high probability of war in near future with Pakistan, so India is preparing to defeat Pakistan in 5/7 days and Indian armed forces preparedness should be seen in this scenario.

What is the issue with China- land borders. So if China wants this land, then the Chinse has to physically occupy it. The Russia- Ukraine war has shown that despite all the modern technological domains of warfare, the need for boots on the ground has been prime donna. The whole of the nation approach is required in modern war. China is powerful but it too has limitations. Mr Sawhney has a point but it is an exaggerated view.

China wants Arunachal Pradesh . It has water resources and China needs water . Apart from that China wants to control Andaman to secure energy lines . China wants a skirmish just like 1962 so that india can be kept under its thumb. As India develops economically it will be difficult for China in future . It’s either now or never .
A much more detailed account of the McMahon Line and its history is available here, written by Peter Lee who, contrary to impressions given by his surname, is not at all Chinese.
available where?
Exactly 👍👍👍👍

@@alanhamford2538 Guess India just like US, needs a booygey like China to divert the facts that China is just far, far, far....ahead of India despite whatever India wish to brag about today or the western propaganda which to manipulate negative narratives of China. Even the border issues are the legacy of the colonial eras, weak and collapsing Qing Dynasty/Nationalist government. Taiwan nowadays is a good example, the ever existence is dependent of an imperialist or hegemon like US/West before CCP.
But India politicians and media prefer to portrayed China as a expansionist power or land grabber. Fascinating to note, reckon India (being a nation/nations of long history) is still entrapped with their colonial mentality or prefer to live under the hegemon powers as before by being a junior partner. India should settle all their border disputes. Make Love, Not Wars! Promote development, not destruction! China does not have colonizing in their DNA! They take protection of their sovereignty very seriously though. The Indian public should listen closely to what the Chinese leadership says. They are always promoting peace and development. One should also look closely at their actions. They have not dropped any bombs on any country.
Great insight
Without the border issues alive, India does not have good excuse: 1) to keep distant from China, 2) to play a significant role in Quad, thus asking more tecknology och financial support from the west to develop its economy as so called "other alternative".
India didn't have any border issue before Xi took over. The border accord between India and China was going well till Xi's regime. India had no choice asking help from West

They could and should collaborate to enhance their respective economies and security through building bridges, making the world a safer and better place
Excellent sir. So, India is not prepared for war with China .
