There are now more billionaires in India than there are anywhere else in the world, excluding China and America. From glitzy Bollywood weddings and luxury yachts, to building gigantic towers and palaces and holidaying around the world, these new Maharajahs compete with each other to spend more. Although the majority of Indians live below the poverty line, these select billionaires live off of the riches of the country’s growing economy. Not only do we follow the glamorous side of this high life, but we also uncover how many are getting away with tax evasion and money laundering. We immerse ourselves in the lives of billionaires with very different profiles: from rich heirs to the self-made men. What difficulties do they face in getting to the top? During this 6-month long investigation, we infiltrate this tightly knit circle of India’s new billionaires.

I’d love to know more about Kalpana’s story. Inspiring
Did she told them to touch her feet at 27:30 I don't speak marathi, but someone commented that she did, is it true????
Madam Kalpana seems not to be holding all her money in her heart, but only in her hands. this is the meaning, that even if you are rich, you don't forget where you belonged before so you still have the heart to help another people . Salute her.
Kalpana's story was the best. She has worked extremely hard to reach her current status...despite all her past, she's humble, and compassionate ..amazing story. God bless her. There is no mention of Gautam Singhania's father who developed the company, and is now ignored by his son and living a pathetic life.
Ignored is an understatement. As soon as his father signed off the business to Gautam, he threw out his father.
Pathetic? He is such a charm bro. What happened?

Kalpana actually earned her wealth and it shows in the way she lives. Her story is inspirational, the others are a joke.
All of them are irrelevant except the royal family guy whose family is rooted in their state and society since hundred of years and is relevant bec of family not bec of few hotels that are left with them. The last guy Mallaya is economic fugitive to London with UK shielding him from extradition. This is a decade old documentary.

@@gardensofthegodsthat last guy is a economic fugitive now after his airlines failed, he is being hid by British in London since many years. This is a decade old documentary.
It’s really easy to lose wealth, if you don’t know what you’re doing. That’s why rich people give their kids the best education, shape their mentality for entrepreneurship, and help them make the best networking connections, so they can continue the family business.
Summarised brilliantly.
Kalpana is the only real one

Chapeau bas to her, one would get goose bumps when she is seen serving her people the food .
Indian really does not have that many Billionaires. Indian has 166 billionaires for a population of 1.4 billion people while Switzerland has 41 billionaires for a population of 8 million. If you do the math you will find that the ratios are way off.
I think the point is in India a billion can feel a lot greater because of the difference in labour rates/ local costs and also poverty rates (literally in the title). So their wealth is so enormously beyond so much of the country it’s literal worlds away.

I was drawn to the story of Kalpana 20:00. Very ironic, her name means daydream in India. But being an untouchable or of low caste, she was not allowed to have dream. But she willed her daydream into reality and now her name is a testament to her achievement. What a beam of light.

*untouchable not unteachable
Thank you for noting Kalpana's story at 20:00. The other stories were insignificant compared to her authenticity and contribution back to the community and her roots.
You are so wrong, we were liberated long back. Infact the biggest to9l lower castes have is education and technology. Stop saying that we need something, we have constitution and that’s enough
Her aunt is more remarkable imo. She refuses charity and lives by her own means that to me speaks much more volumes than any other in this video.
Fun fact: the fabric guy, gautam singhania, kicked out his father out of the family house who also was the founder of his company. The father is now bankrupt and homeless and is fighting a legal battle for years. A couple of months back in november, 2023, his wife was granted divorce after filing a complaint earlier citing he beat up her and her daughter

To me Kalpana is a real hero. The rich boy - I have my doubts- I think he is spoil brat, because most of the rich family in asia try to present their children as hugely successful while the parents themselves take care of the business. Because I know about labor behavior in asia - they might be cheap but they productivity is super low without close management supervision which cannot be replaced by recruited management. And the software business - the way he is briefing his employees, doesn't work that way. Most of the software projects either come from abroad or government where a close liasion is super important. Staying 2/3 of the year abroad you cannot manage those business. His parents just don't want their relatives to know about his mischief hence they send his abroad. Kalpana on the other hand who build her empire all by her hands and she still stays very close to her roots. Most of the people after becoming rich forget their past and relations. Her aunts surprised me even more, who still living such a simple life. Big salute to those ladies.

The same thing can be found in Pakistan. I visited a relative's house in Karachi and it was a 5-6 bedroom house made of white marble and complete with an indoor waterfall and a garden with chickens and a peacock. The kids inside were playing video games, while the ones down the block were selling toys on the street. Lots of new luxury developments by the sea (Emaar) and in the hills (Bahria Town) are coming up in a city where people fight over water and electricity. Inequality in Pakistan looks low on paper (GINI coefficient), but that's because income statistics are always skewed in favor of privileged people like myself.

Sometimes you should also see from where a successful person started his journey. its actually very difficult if you don't have a rich dad. Remember money makes money. The struggle is totally different if you don't have money in the beginning.
That rich dad also started somewhere. Just saying that from experience, my grandpa made huge fortune starting from remote village with zero opportunities. He believed in giving back, he did that. What would you call what happened in the United States under slavery and Jim Crow for hundreds of years?
Not every rich person is horrible. Some do a lot of good. I'd still rather that wealth was more evenly divided so that people can determine themselves what to spend their money on as opposed to being dependent on philanthropy.

Holding wealth is easier than ever. Generational wealth isn’t a bad thing but I struggle with the younger gens of these families. They do not know poverty or struggle, which makes it difficult for them to enjoy their riches and success while also adopting a philanthropist mindset like those who came before them.

I have no problem with these super-rich flaunting their riches...what irks me is the blatant disregard for the poor.
Super Rich & surrounded by poverty . It’s not only an Indian thing .. there in China to USA
If the rich are spending money for luxury "in India" then I have no problem because it will keep money in circulation, provide employment and ultimately help economy. But storing wealth or spending it abroad will take money out of indian economy which is bad.
Oh please. Trickle down economics is a proven disaster. If you want to keep money in circulation and help the economy, provide the poor and working class a living wage.
Even storing it in banks causes it to be lent out to people who use it to buy goods and services or businesses to expand their business. Don’t listen to the first replier, he has no idea how the economy works. Trickle-down economics is a term used by people who have never studied economics to describe supply-side economics, of which they know very little about and couldn’t describe if asked to.
@@kenbob1071 trickle down economy fails because the rich tend to store money or spend it abroad. If the laws are made correctly and followed strictly then it helps the economy grow, like strict regulations by the government/reserve bank of India on the economy helped India tackle the 2008 recession where India had minimum impact as compared to the world, it majorly depends on the law makers. It's not what u r implementing, it's about how u r implementing.
Industries need to be developed and it requires a lot of money which is with the rich, now if u don't want rich people then u r leaning towards socialism. Pakistan's economy is in a very poor state because they didn't develope good industries, it always got support from the west and arab therefore it is surviving even today, hope the poor there don't suffer.
There is always some pros n cons in each, n nothing is absolute. It's about finding the best combinations, like India found in capitalism and socialism, this helped India survive out of the poverty which the British left(80% were below poverty line). That time socialism helped now capitalism should.
