I started listening to your runthroughs years ago when you just held up a sheet of paper of your logo at the beginning of your videos (good old days haha). Your enthusiasm just seeps through every video and makes me hyped for the games. Cheers!
46:16 - the Vulture doesn't provide any science icons towards the end game card, it requires at least one science icon to be present before it can be played.
Ark Nova was my highlight of Dice Tower West, other than meeting wonderful people like yourself of course😊, but I got to play it once and fell in love. I can't wait to play it again. I love the "Rajas of the Ganges" type ending condition of the multi-player game of the two tracks crossing each other. Thanks for sharing❤
45:19 - he doesn't need to have an Asian partnership to play the peafowl, he just needs another Asia icon in his zoo. This could come from the partnership, or from having played the vulture first.

I only just started the video but looking forward to seeing your take on the game. I've been looking forward to this arriving any day now and love watching the playthroughs I'm seen. I like the brief but excellent run through of the asymmetric boards!

There is a variant for solo play where after each card action, you roll a D6 and remove a card from the display.
Very similar to Obsession’s solo variant.
The Animals action card always starts the game in the one strength slot, not the cards action card.

10 Appeal is on the 10 spot on the appeal track, not on the 10 income part, that is really making it hard for yoursefl! I recommend strongly to do 20 appeal for first 10+ solo games! (Im still on 20 after 25 solo plays cause I enjoy it more that way)

23:58 When you say that it needs a size 3 enclosure, does that mean that it has to be EXACTLY size 3, or does that mean that it has to be an enclosure of AT LEAST size 3? Thanks.
correct, you can put smaller animals in bigger enclosures :)
I dont think i understood fully how to do the conservation cards or the area to the left of the player board with the cube upgrades.
well the tricky thing is i'm not trying to teach how to play the games with runthrough videos. i'm trying to demonstrate what the gameplay is like so folks can decide whether they want to get the game. so you might want to check out one of these excellent rules explainers: ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=how+to+play+ark+nova :)
After watching I'm left wondering how I score points (and apparently negative points, as you mention negative scores are not uncommon). Did I sleep through that part of the video or did you ommit that?
Playing at a friend's house for the first time this thursday, so I guess I'd better check the rules online.
P.S. other than that, great runthrough, REALLY looking forward to trying this!
your points are equal to how far your two score markers surprass each other at game end :)
also a tip for new players, put the solo cube on the action card you are doing to keep better track of actions, the game can gave some long turns with lots of steps so :)
Hi.I cant figure out how to buy the petting zoo ,the reptile house or bird avery. Do you use the build action and pay 2 per hex like normal buildings

editing timestamp: 1:09:10 - he doesn't need a size two predator, the low goal on that card is for a size 2 or smaller predator - so size one would be fine.

Love the video! Minor correction, when you paid for the monkey (your first animal) you should have taken -3 discount since you had the North American partner zoo. Looks like you paid the full 11 instead of 8. EDIT - I see that it was corrected at the 45 minute mark!
also, it was already noted in the klingon subtitles the moment it happened... at the start of the video Richard asked viewers to turn on the klingon subtitles to know when he goofs up... so, in the future please turn them on... you only noted that one error, he did several others in this video!
29:00 I don¨t think that you need to snap to get this card. It is within your reputation range.
Incorrect... he needs to snap it because to be able to do anything within your reputation range you need Upgraded Action cards, and at this point he has no upgraded actions, so the only way to get cards from the display at this point is by snapping them
I haven’t played the game so I could totally be wrong but around 23 minutes in you played the primate card and you paid 11 money. But didn’t you say before that because of your North American association you get a three money discount to play animals that require that association? So shouldn’t you have paid 8 not 11? Or did I understand that wrong?

Is it really such a deep and heavy game? Too many decisions (and or lots of rules) lead to me having severe AP.

sorry to say the file sizes get out of control too quickly at those higher resolutions and are too much of a strain on my recording pc :(
my rules say the animal card should be in spot 1, not the cards card

Surprised nobody mentioned this yet, but every time he says "North America" was super cringy. Don't know if that is the way it is written in the manual, but the icon is the whole American continent, not just the North. Particularly cringy when some of the animals were clearly from Amazonia.

Bummer. If ever I needed an extended play on a game it was THIS one! There’s just something about this game that doesn’t click after a round, or two, or three. Would have liked to see which card you upgraded to at the very least, and why you chose it. Also wish you had done your normal 2-player run through since I’m trying to learn this so I can teach it to my wife. You’re normally my one stop go-to, Richard, but in this case I will have to seek further options. 🥸
well i did play for 80 minutes which makes it one of my longest runthroughs of all time actually :)
also, if i hadn't done solo, then in that 80 minutes i would have only gotten half as far into the game, so that's something to consider.
