We live about 15 minutes from Bridgeville - down 404 on the Maryland side. And this storm was the most wicked one we’ve had! Extremely scary! Lightening struck the pole at our house that the transformer sits on. It struck one of our electrical outlets in our house causing sparks to fly! Thank GOD the surge protector did it’s job! Great footage you have here! Thanks for sharing!

I live in New Jersey and I remember learning about this storm. It struck portions of South Jersey once it exited Delaware. This is insane as monster type storms like this one only tend to occur out in the plains and are NOT really associated with the east coast. The worst and most memorable thunderstorm that I experienced here in New Jersey occured roughly 12 years ago now on September 16th 2010. That storm went on to produce two tornadoes in NYC in both Brooklyn and Queens. Two people were killed by those storms that day. I will never forget that event.

Years ago...like earlier 2000's, we got some good ones. I used to video them from north of the city...south side of Lake Simcoe. Still have them on video. Then, it seemed the weather patterns changed and a lot of these storms passed well to the west and north...heading towards and around Thunder Bay, etc. The ones that do move in towards us from the west tend to weaken a lot as the pass over land, not that I'd want another derecho experience like we had in 2022. However, I'd absolutely love it if we could get a few light shows like that!

One last thing..I was watching on radar and the BLSCs chart when this amazing tornadic-Tstorm was unfolding over DC and Philly THU evening 9/3/20.....and surely enough..you got the same awesomed MCS complex.....Hope you like my manuscript here... heeheee... I was almost struck by lightening on a mountaintop one time. It was essentially a clear day when a solitary cloud settled on the mountain. I felt my hair stand up and a bolt struck a metal pole, just a short distance from me. I have a healthy respect for lightening and its awesome power.

It's fascinating how the lightening strikes affected the camera.

That greenish sky at the beginning usually indicates a GREAT chance for a tornado. The color of the sky, that huge anvil/derby-shaped ridge... You folks are darned lucky you did not get a tornado out of this monster meso. Incredible lightning. I seriously though a tornado was going to form before it was over. I'll bet the headwinds were fairly strong ahead of the rain.

2020 was a big year for storms in DE, on August 7 northern DE had a giant supercell that also produced ef1 tornado, and 2-4 inches of rain in 30 minutes!! That storm also produced lots of close lightning strikes but not quite on the level of this one.

It's unfortunate that most cell phones/dash cams can't handle the sudden brighness of lightning flashes, resulting in those lines appearing across the screen. Back in 2012, I had an iPhone and it performed amazingly well. I videoed a storm with constant bright lightning, heavy rains and large hail... not a line to be seen. I was on the motorcycle so it was, to say the least, a memorable event... It was my first smart phone and I assumed all phone cameras would be just as good. I've had Samsungs since then (prefer Android) and I was disappointed with the cameras in all of them until I got the S23 Ultra in 2023. It seems to not have this issue. More sophisticated cameras work better. My old Canon G10 doesn't have that problem. That was one absolutely amazing storm catch. You caught some great stuff there. Thanks for posting!!
