Darling Downs HP Monster 17th Nov 2012 Part 2

- This second part shows the intense lightning that occurred during this storm. The sound was recorded in 5.1 surround, which sounded great until recode. Also it is after sunset hence the poor video quality. I try to outrun the storm to the east but get enveloped, at stage there is some suspect cloud motion. The last scenes are from my motel at Kilcoy. At this stage with the CAP decayed and a US style convective complex of thundery rain had broken out which lasted most of the night.
Absolutely incredible! Easily one of the craziest thunderstorms I have ever seen! Nice video!
man i love thunderstorms and lightning
Good to hear ! and thanks for taking time to comment
Good for you, they only make me feel uncomfortable.
@@peachdaisyandrosalina9666 Thanks, Iove some nice close lightning

@@scholastica1658 our storm season runs from October to March, so a few months away yet. Thanks
Beautiful supercell. Awesome shelf cloud.
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment
Thank you for this video, that lightning was intense 😳 and you drove in that extremely heavy rain that was bad . That was a wicked storm 😳
and thanks for watching and taking time to comment
6:28 that is some very suspicious storm behavior. Clear rotation. I'm an advanced SKYWARN storm chaser in Texas. I've seen that before tornadoes strike.
Thanks Mate, another chase crew said they saw a funnel, appreciate you taking time to watch
Man that look crazy . Grate video
Thanks for watching. Cannot wait to another storm like that here
It is scary outside with the storms in Darling Downs, Australia 🇦🇺
It is one of the best places in Australia for severe storms and areas like Cecil plains look just like western Kansas. The flatness and lack of trees allows the sky to dominate the landscape.
So beautiful and darkest cumulonimbus cloud!
Thanks for taking to time to comment !
hi, last night a few people vvvvvvvv traffic
We storms like that in Texas, especially with all the open space. I've been caught in a downburst before, man that is a crazy experience.
Much nastier storms in Texas, I have been there a couple of times
My god, so many positive strokes
Thanks Ben for watching !
and here it is..
Great storm I love it
Thanks, appreciated
I really wanna chase storms its actually on my bucket list but its also an interest of mine as a career
A great past time, but if you want to do it at another level study meteorology. If still in high school maximize Math and physics. Good luck.
I live in pennsylvania.the lightning we have is nothing compared to this.that is scary!
Thanks for your comments. if i lived Pennsylvania I would be doing miles every spring to the mid west where you will see lightning like this and more !
It’s getting dark at big storm.
Thanks Joshua ! yes it was near sunset, but looked a lot later !
What time of the day was this filmed?
Around 20mins after sunset. Thanks for watching
Holy s*** that's insanely crazy and scary! 😱😱😱
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment !
@@ozthunder you're welcome :)

Just a typical Qld summer storm. love em
Great thunderstorm
Thank you for watching, much appreciated
Part of those thunderclouds are green. Tornados.
Thanks ! yes it was s severe storm, another chase crew said they saw a funnel cloud, but I did not
What a wicked storm this was! How long did this go for?
The actual supercell went fro 3-4 hours, spread out into a convective complex that lasted to after midnight as it moved towards coast (150kms away)
@@ozthunder that is lot water of 3 to 4hours
@@dinobay9597 thanks mate, it was the lightning rate that had me amazed
@@ozthunder i thought that lightning 🌩️ thunderstorm was sever in tropical equator why more lightning there in subtropical area
These storms are really metheorological monster!!
Thanks Rudolf, I really want another storm like this one ! COVID meant I could not chase to Queensland from my state last November, hopefully in 2022
super cell
Yes, it had all the hallmarks, thanks for watching
2:56 What kind of lightning was that

Thanks Joaquim !
My got!
when you say HP storm, do you mean high pressure?
HP - High Precipitation Supercell, LP = Low precipitation Supercell, and the one in between is called a Classic Supercell
@@ozthunder oh right ok, thx for letting me know! I have recently just gotten into meteorology and storms so this helps.
Scary!
There was tornado?
Some other chasers mention seeing a small one, I did not
OH MY LORD!!
I just want to witness a storm like this before I die, that's my wish!
What is the best place in the world to find storms like these?
if you want a storm like that you best bet in USA Mid West in May. Here in Australia while we do get occasional good ones but there is too much down time between events.

Noted!
Thanks mate!
Try Mobile, Alabama in August. Clouds that build to 60K feet and thunder that rips doors off their hinges (for real).
@@josephlindquist506
Actually I have a friend who lives in Mobile Alabama, and he is bragging the soul out of me to visit him. Might be my August's destination. Thank you brother
@@josephlindquist506 you lucky people have the Gulf of Mexico moisture. Darwin in the northern territory is similar being in tropics
Hollywood Higgins would have been short stroking it all over the place.
6:28 there is tornado?
I did not see one, but some other chasers just a little further south said they did.
I don't know where but I see
Some other chasers reported a funnel cloud, but I did not see any. thanks for watching !
King.. 1:20
Sold out these bracelets..
This storm happened the day before day my brithday when I turned when I turned 7 years ago old now. I'm 18 years and I'm into phenomena meterological

Amazing video Michael!!!! One of your very best :)
Very nice thunderstorm, great video !
great footage ozthunder. I was holidaying on the gold coast over that weekend but had no car and only took limited camera gear. So close but so far :(
Hi there Mick, i posted a few questions on part 1, was wondering if you could post back? Again insane video mate, and your weather knowledge is super.
I saw at least 4 other chase crews, but none in a position where you could just stroll up and have a chat. There was a small station wagon with what looked like Go pros on the roof at the location on the start of this clip.
great footage, full of energy this system, did you bump into Andy & Cam from South Brisbane Storms
The green sky in the back is beautiful but scary. I can't imagine how much damage that storm caused.
Mostly hail damage, thanks for watching
Good Video !
Wow! Beautiful storm :)
It was like the sky had fallen.
Thanks for watching !
Epic CG at 0:55sec
Nicely recorded... Please tell me you were in the 4x4 lol
Look, man, that's all very well, but one thing's not clear to me, do you mind the windshield? What if hail?
Fuck it man we live once
fantastic epic
How long did this storm last for from start to finish?
Probably the second longest I have chased in Australia, was on it for 4-5 hours, but the latter part was weaker
Face to face with a supercell storm
Thanks for the comment and watching
That would make me go in anxiety attack thunderstorms are beautiful but dangerous too
Thanks for watching
Beautiful! Thor was realy angry! :))
INDEED HE SURE WAS!!!
Then there was Emerald October 2018 with a monster HP tornic supercell and one that also came close to dropping a funnel and with huge hail stones
ThAaTs OnE BiG StOrm
Thanks for taking the time to watch ! Yes it was a very large storm that became a small complex further east.
@@ozthunder wow if I saw that coming home I would decently freak out too
When a supercell is developing is there always a blue sky behind it or can it be cloudy too?
Both, but good point as a supercell can start to dominate the environment around it and kill off nearby storms, thus becoming rather isolated
Here in the UK when we have a thunderstorm it just clouds over and rains. Ive seen one or 2 shelf clouds in the UK and a small wall cloud but not a supercell or tornado yet as most go unreported or very weak. Its my favorite type of weather.
How does a thunderstorm work opposed to a supercell?
Probablt easier to explain a supercell - has a persistent single rotating updraft. Other thunderstorms fall into several categories, but the most common is just a multicell. Thunderstorms need vertical cloud growth
Fuck yes!!! Wow!
Great vid but sort those wipers out!!!
lol...wrote that car off just 2 weeks after an argument with a Kangaroo
