- Would you believe that Bentley have already delivered 10,000 Bentayga SUVs?! Well now it's time to add an extra model in the line-up in the form of one equipped with a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8, making 550 horsepower and 770Nm of torque but shaving £30,000 off the price tag of the W12 model. Let's head to Kitzbühel in Austria to experience the car and discovered what it's all about!
Driving a car painted in Orange Flame, and equipped with a huge array of options, in fact taking the retail price from the base of £136,000 all the way up to nearly £223,000, we get started from the snowy ski resort. Following a walkaround to explore the car it's up into Germany for an Autobahn blast before some very pleasant dynamic roads to discover the variability of the systems in the Bentayga.
It has to be said, there is very little to fault the Bentayga on outside of the price tag when you're finished with the options list. Everything you expect from a Bentley is there; comfort, top level luxury, effortless power, so join me for the experience and let's discover it in full.

The new V8 is certainly a tad more economical and it sounds better!
But, at the price point of the Bentayga, £30k extra is no big difference, so I'd opt for the W12!

After a mild tune it’s over 500bhp & 1,000Nm and you get 35mpg
Simply superb and the reason I bought a second hand one to replace my dad’s BMW X5 3litre diesel, an excellent car itself, but not in the same ballpark after owning the Bentley 👍🏻

If you go for the less powerful V8 then you could aswell get the V8 TDI. Costs less and has longer range, very good for enormous roadtrips :)

It’s a good idea for Bentley I think. There’s plenty of performance and luxury SUV’s but can see a lot of Bentley customers wanting better all weather options at that comfort level. Much rather have that than the Urus etc. I’d rather take the V-8 with more options than the extra 50k for the W12 too.

Hi Tim, what do you think of the episode on grand tour about the ford gt, and I realized that each one of the 6 cylinders is making more horsepower then all the Compton if you multiple 108 horsepower by 8 cylinders in other cars.
It's almost like the reviewers were told not to mention that this engine is a diesel or that it's the same engine found in the Audi SQ7...BUT what do I know🙃???
Qin Zungu But this one isn’t the V8 diesel engine. This one has the V8 petrol engine look at the rpm’s in the instrument cluster or just listen to the sound. But yes the V8 diesel shares the engine whit the audi sq7

It's a great idea to put a V8 in the Bentayga, same idea as offering it in the Conti GT. I really like the Bentayga, i see a lot of them around my area, i'd happily save the £30k over the W12 & grab the V8.
Listen by no means am I saying that a VW Touareg is a Bentley but some of the similarities of that body and interior are noticeably close. The door panels the panoramic roof the overall size look really close.

i have to say that such driving and sliding through snow corners is normal for a 50$k + 4x4 suv . In a nissan xtrail 2017 i can do pretty much the same sliding and drifting like in the bentayga.
Love the videos Shmee, but honestly... I don't understand when you open the bonnet to show us the engine bay when 95% of it is covered in plastic. I wish more modern cars actually showed off their engines. 👍
Totally agree with you! Many commenters used to complain when I didn't show them though so I prefer to do so now as a good way to run over the numbers and explain what it does have under there.
All that plastic helps keep things tidy, quiet, and away from unqualified hands. Once you buy one, you can take the plastics off and bin them if you like, but it's not so photogenic under there.
How would you compare it with the urus, range rover and the GTC 4 Lusso????
This has the same paint colour and similar interior finish to the Ford Ranger Wildtrak. The Ranger has the advantage of 100% tax relief and VAT refund for eligible businesses, so may well take a significant chunk of sales away from the Bentayga. Also you could easily get a fleet of ten fully loaded Rangers with significant change for the price of one Bentayga. Slam-Dunk!!!

I would not! I picked up a V12 Mansory one year ago! That car was so fucked up by Mansory. It was lowered a lot so stability system was not working. After just some km that suspension got so stiff. Bentley Hamburg could do nothing about it so i had to drive it to Sweden where i live. And then transport it back to the car dealer in Hannover. Had to change back to original springs! Todays cars are not ment to tune like old cars. All systems these cars have does fuck it up good.
While the base price is expensive, it is reasonable. However the extras really take the piss as a percentage of the base price and compared to the total price of a well loaded Q7.
If I could choose just one car to have for the rest of my life it would be this 🙂

TheCarLovingSwede I have chosen multiple cars (4 currently) which all add up to less than the cost of this. Jeep Wrangler unlimited, Toyota 4Runner, Porsche Cayman and a 1967 Mustang.
The right tool for the right job. This Bentley cost an obscene amount and isn't great at anything.
My Jeep and 4 Runner would crush it off road, the Mustang would crush it in a straight line, and the Cayman would destroy it on windy roads.

It's luxurious, and without doubts a very good car. But I'd prefer an Urus... and I think it could fit you better. Or you can wait the Ferrari SUV

6:57 actually, this is basically (I suppose) the same braking system from the Urus, at least the dimensions are the same, so the Bentayga isn't the only car with those enormous brakes ;)
Maybe for now then it is! I think the Bentayga V8 deliveries start before Urus, but you're definitely right about that.

Did anyone else realise that the Bentley shmee drove it registered on uk plates but is left hand drive? and no the image isn’t flipped because the plate is still the right way around.
Not even a min in...there is nothing on the exterior that you spoke above that is different from the W12 or the Diesel for that matter. All that blacked out trim is optional and available across the range. ;)
Wasn't the Bentley at the end of the video the W12 because the number plates where different I'm sure the v8 was orange and had a different reg
From some angles - with that colour - it just looks a bit like a Cross Polo ^^ - if you have no reference points for scale of course ;)

There is very little to fault that car...? To me it looks very much like a London cab, it can be loaded with whatever options and be built by whoever, but at the end of day it still looks like a London Cab.
*Nope, I'd rather buy a fully optioned Macan Turbo w/ Performance package, and still be able to afford a 911 Carrera T. Alternatively, you could forgo the 911, and just buy a Macan Turbo or a Cayenne Turbo with basically every option box ticked, and save yourself a small fortune. Plus, I can imagine that the reliability with Porsche is better and your service bills would be far less than that of the Bentley would be.*

the thing for me is it doesnt seem to jump out at you does it, apone first look its just another suv .a bentley gt for example screams hey im a bentley admire me, but this just doesnt do that, infact id go as far to say a range rover does look alot better and for spending over 130 grand id want it to scream look at me at least more than it does, but it just doesnt, think id rather have a range rover or a Q7
The price difference of the V8 and the W12 is probably around 70k/90k in the Netherlands... :|

The engine is lighter, so it drives assumable better!
It's only 25kg lighter though, it isn't a huge difference
Automotive Mike 25kilos.. you wont even notice that..the car is already well over 2 tonnes
Handling wise the difference may come if the V8 is mounted further back than the 12 cylinder one. Still probably marginal difference at best.

I got delivery of my gt3 last week, i can say it’s a better car than the 570s, Nissan GT-R, and even better than the turbos and the 650s (given I’ve owned these cars)
The driver to car connection, the sound of the engine in cabin (literally sounds like a workshop) and the vibrations gives you the feeling that u are in a pure race car, not to mention the endless revs and amazing sound
