Finally someone talking proper about the nanotexture.
I personally prefer the Standard glass iPad for my work... if I want the nano texture, I can just get a screen protector where as the Nano texture option is perminant
My love for touching glass has increased so much, once I have used Paperlike on my iPad. Nano Texture also felt the same.
This is EXACTLY the video I’ve been looking for! Thanks so much for sharing this with us in a thoughtful and highly detailed way!
Keep up the good videos! Will be sharing your channel with others!!
I love the nano texture. At work the reflections from overhead lighting would cause me to have to angle the iPad to get them off the screen. I also feel like the writing feel with the Apple Pencil is better. It glides but doesn’t feel slippery.
thank you for the asmr close up nano texture review ive been looking for for weeks!!
Got mine 3 days back it's the same experience but I was comparing it with my older M2 iPad Pro. I was in love with my older display but when comparing it with the new M4 nano texture display it's better by leaps and bounds. So agree with everything you say 9/10 times I will too choose the nano texture display.
One of my favorite tech channels, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the detailed comparison. Much appreciated.
Great comprehensive coverage of your subject. Liked and subscribed. Thank you.
Congrats to the best and only really professional comparison between the Nano and Glossy M4 I’ve seen. And I’ve seen many…Very well done! I opted for the Nano and couldn’t be happier with this decision 👌
Can you compare a Paperlike screen protector to the nano texture glass? Would be a waste if they’re comparable
I have the same thought. There's no reason to get the nanotexture glass if I can just get the regular and put on a paperlike. Also the glass being glossy on the borders and matte in the middle really highlights the bezels, and I think that's the most unaesthetic apple device choice I've seen in a while.
Thanks!
I wasn't worried at all, but I didn't receive mine yet (with nano-texture) and your observations are reassuring. One of the best videos to date, regarding the excellent qualities of the new surface, the little that is lost on the trade off.
Appreciate it, Edmundo! Congrats on the new iPad 🙂
Great review as this is exactly the information I wanted. Thanks.
The first review that actually appreciates this technology
0 technology in this. Buy paperlike screen protector to get the same feeling without buying 1tb model
theres nothing to appreciate. it ruins the contrast and sharpness of the screen, defeating the purpose of having a highres oled display.
@@abhisekmohanty4959you can’t compare the image quality of such. Same as if you compare etched screens vs protectors in other drawing tablet screens. Those plastic overlays always is a bit more budget and the results in image quality is of course tied to it
completely agree with you, people saying that "paper like is the same" just don't have direct experience with this product, which is clearly superior. Obviously, OLED is at its best without texture, but the whole point (of the technology and this video) is how little you lose and how much you gain (without reflections). An iPad is for using everywhere, generally.
@@edmundoa1935 yea and also I might give a better grip to draw on from how it sounds when he draw on it. Especially good for artists
With nano texture screen protectors, is the best middle ground a glossy with a nano texture screen protector? Can change if you want?
Finally there is a video answered all my questions about nano texture.
Very well said. You've got a new subscriber! All my other Apple products including Macbook Pro, Studio Display and iPhone are all standard glass. Therefore I bought nano texture glass for my iPad Pro M4 13". I must say that I really like it. Not just because of minimising glare but it's excellent for viewing photos. They just look like printed photos or even pictures without light source at the back. Standard glass is like a window, and nano texture glass is like a picture.
I have paper like on my current iPad Air. I’m going to upgrade to the 13” pro soon. I know you said you wouldn’t recommend a screen protector on the nano textured glass, why not? While the feel is pretty cool, you’re getting it for its light reflecting abilities anyway so not get a protector?
Thanks. Any decision is right for iPad Pro M4 :) Switched from iPad Pro 2017. :) Difference is visible :)
Thanks Josh. This video is the one I’d been looking for. The comparison is awesome! I put a regular class screen protector and a matte screen protector on my iPad. The glass made it much it much slicker to write on with the Apple Pencil. The matte screen protector was perfect but made the screen too grainy. I took it off after watching your video and discovered the Apple glass is just fine. I’m going to go into the Apple Store today and take a look at the nano screen myself. Your video makes the differences look minimal.
Really great breakdown. Getting closer to making a decision myself. I am getting the 1tb model. Have you noticed a quality difference with photos. I will be using it for photo and video editing and mainly was concerned about decreased quality for photo editing on the nano texture.
As much as you may want the nanotexture model it may be less accurate as you can tell in the video there is a small amount of line bleeding, it's ever so slightly not as sharp. Nonetheless, it may not matter that much for you and the enjoyment of it may be a better deal for you. The color is basically the same but looks ever so slightly lighter as seen in the video. As someone who's drawing with it I really like the idea of the nanotexture but at the same time I am super OCD about lines and color, it doesn't look like that big of a deal though if you're excited about the nanotexture. If you feel like you'd appreciate it day in and day out, get it. I hope this helps.
I have always purchased screen protection on my iPads since my earlier iPad had permanent smudges on the actual screen without one from long FPS gaming (NOVA online world record holder back in the day 😂) so I passed on the nano-texture. They make paper-like protectors that do pretty much the same thing for like $20.
Standard glass would be my choice. Matte screens reduce sharpness.
Hmm I wonder if there was a section of the video that addresses that.
@@derickd6150 ; the video tried to downplay the sharpness issue.
@@bb1111116ummm are we watching the same video?
@@1rstTry ; yes
@@1rstTryyeah you lose contrast and sharpness, standard 100% i generally get almost 0 glare when i use it anyways and a rep at the Apple Store has told me they have been a lot more nano displays returns than regular ones
Thanks - a great video and just what I was looking for. One concern I have is that I think you have to use the special cloth with the nano texture otherwise you can ruin the screen and I will almost certainly forget to take it with me when I’m out and about…
Got the nano texture because I will running my iPad in our f150 work truck as a dash mounted tablet, finger prints and glare sucks so much even with a matte screen protector, hope this is much better
Fingerprints Look just as Bad as on the regular model
Very nice review! Thaks. I got the nanotexture one, still evaluating it but I agree with your conclusion. Nanotexture is batter in overall image quality in 7 out of 10 usage scenario for me.
It would be interesting if you could compare the nanotexture with some matte or paperlike screen protectots, I made a sport comparison with just one of them (paperlike).
For students, would you say that getting the nanotexture is a better option than a paperlike screen protector? I use my current one for taking notes and reading music, and I kind of hate the way my screen protector makes the display look.
great video as always
Looking at the light bar behind the iPad on the left, makes me think I’d be ok with an antenna on my iPad. It doesn’t look bad.
Which better to watch movies and tv shows nano or standard?
I am not an Artist but have chosen the nano texture anyway and it is incredible. Go for it!
Quality comparison breakdown.
How about cleaning? I‘ve heard that it is hard to remove fingerprints from it.
What kinda care does the nano requires I heard that one has to be extra careful. Is it true?
Is it more difficult to wipe fingerprints on the nano-texture display? Do you think it will get scratches easier?
Exactly the question I’m searching the answer for! - Anyone?
You are supposed to only use the cloth from apple to clean the nano texture display. Their nano texture monitor had the same instruction because microfibre would leave scratches and eventually remove the nano texture. They probably improved it a lot but considering that you still need to use the apple cloth makes it obvious that it is still more prone to damage than the regular variant. I've always used screen protectors on my ipads, so the nano texture would be wasted since all the paperlike protectors I know are also matte.
My take is the nano textured glass is like having cataracts over an OLED screen. It literally ruins what OLED gives you. The only reason I would use it, is if I needed to work outside in the bright sun with it.
😅
Should screen protector be added on top of a nano-texture display?🤔
I wonder how it compares to the matte glass on the higher end Steam Deck models
very much the same
I'm also concerned about long-term wear and tear, will this nano texture begin to fade overtime from constant friction/usage.
That is a good question. Usually the etched screens on Cintiqs etc seems to be durable but who knows
I got the standard and would so again. The nano textured iPad is just for a different use case, not better or worse. I use my iPad mostly in darker rooms, I don’t use overhead lighting at the same time, I don’t have direct sunlight where I use it and I often do so later at night. The standard has better sharpness, deeper blacks and colors you expect from an OLED Display. And I use the pencil not that much, that I really would notice the better handling.
Thinking about getting it. Do you guys put screen protection on the glossy one?
I lamented the loss of matte because I find the glossy screen reflections are more of a trigger for headaches. I do hope they will make this new nano-texture an option on lower end versions of the iPad.
Nice review. Still about that the hand glides better I find it hard to believe that any artist would work without a glove. Not just for gliding better. It also cleans the screen and improves palm rejection
Can you do a comparison with a screen with a matte screen protector vs a nano textured screen?
We already know the difference between a glossy vs matte screen in terms of clarity and textures feel.
What we want to know is does it justify upgrading to 1tb and paying an extra 100 dollars for the nano screen vs just slapping a matte protector?
This, because I bought the 1tb Non Nano Texture and a Spigen Matte protector
Multiple content from Josh in a week? Thanks and I’d love to see more tech videos ❤
If they’re less noticeable outside, what’s the point?
0:13 High end *SIX* thousand dollar monitor!
Would you say that a matte screen protector like paper like feels better for drawing then the Nano texture?
The nanotexture is not like any screen protector Ive ever used. Zero toothiness to the texture but I prefer it anyway. Its silky smooth with the perfect amount of drag. Do not listen to anyone claiming that the apple pencil feels the same on the nano as the standard. 100% false
Thanks for asking Apple to provide the Nano texture option for the 256go ! I sent an email to them. 1TO is way too expensive.
Also agree with the touch feel of the Nano versus glass, way better on fingers!
For the price, I wish they made the entire front panel matte, note just the screen
There would have to be a pill-shaped glossy section for the camera and sensors
The added friction when using apple pencil will make it more like writing on a paper
i put on a thin paper like protector and compared it with the nano texture, it's basically the same thing, both decrease contrast and colour accuracy slightly, don't forget nano texture cant use screen protector and it's more fragile
What about that rainbow effect on white background?
Is there any place you can upload photos of the nano texture screen and a normal iPad screen with protector?
So I have the OLED version and I got a magnetic matte paper protector from amazon and honestly looks great and like the original.
I also noticed at the apple store the nano screen had pen marks all over it which made me go for the OLED and amazon matte protector making it a win in savings plus protection 👌🏼
Buy best OLED in the world, and pay extra to get chromatic aborations, color fringe, haze/reduced contrast, and unsharp text. No thanks.
My thoughts from the beginning
My issue is the nano texture is locked behind a really high price point. Get a really good matte finish screen protector and you’re set.
Weird question bro: where’d you get your shirt from? I’m looking for some new drip 😤
Would you mind comparing it to the TCL's NxtPaper & Huawei's PaperMatte ?
I’m a pilot, which one would you recommend me
I’d love to see a review of the old and the nano, the two real choices for buyers today
Yeah I hope they eventually roll it out for the lower storage option iPads too.
you can send an Apple a message, it will help them and I did that (product feedback on their website)
You deserve more views!
but I can just put a display protection like Paperlike on my screen to achieve almost the same effect?
Such a high quality video that was so helpful in making the decision. Your multiple video examples of different use case scenarios was so useful. Loved the Bible verse. Thank you for all your hard work.
good video I went with the 11” nano texture. I like the reduced glare. I was fortunate to use an education discount to get the $100 off.
Nano texture glass will make apple pencil tip wear out faster?
Great comparison! Some things can't be captured on video though. The reflections on the standard glass look much more disturbing on video than they do in the real world, because the eye is focused on the screen display, while reflections appear "behind" it, and thus are not so much in focus and less disturbing. This effect can't be replicated on a RUclips video, here the reflections fully mix with content.
Personally, I got the standard model, since I'm mostly working inside and have control over room lighting, and I like the billiance of the standard display. Watching HDR movies on this display is really awesome.
The etched glass is mostly for people working drawing on it. They don’t use it to watch movies.
@@litjellyfish Well, they can, but that may not be their focus. When I got my Studio display, there was also an etched option on offer. I compared those in the Apple Store. I'm not an artist, I work mostly with text (documents and writing code). Letters appeared with slightly soft edges on the etched display, while they were tack sharp on the standard display. So I went with the standard display here as well. Did I not have the possibility to set up my room as I want (e.g. windows or lights behind me), I would have gotten the matte version instead.
@@valuemastery yes exactly. I think many who bash the nano texture don’t really are the people who wants it. So naturally they only see the downsides of it.
The nano option is the best for those that need anti reflection. The anti reflection screen protectors aren’t nearly as good as the etched at diffusing light. A 50 cent piece of plastic on top of a tandem OLED $1300+ device. Why cheap out on the most expensive part of the iPad - the display?
just wait a few months while not the same there will be matte glass screen protectors! and you can replace it when it wears down because even apples version will wear down!
Does the pencil pro work better in standard or nano display ?
A matte screen protector costs under $20usd on Amazon, has better texture and protects your screen.
Now I’m curious how those would perform against the nano-texture 🤔
Yep, 100% the way to go.
Screen protectors wear out in 2 months
@@williammclean6594 blatant lie
I've seen a lot of reviews for protectors if you're an artist and you draw 8 hours a day like I do they don't last long
The upcoming Lenovo Y700 mini tablet refresh is supposed to also have this
I've had screen protectors on every phone and tablet up until the past gen. At worst, they really do diminish the image quality and increase glare. At best, they still add a whole mm or so of thickness, which can interfere with some of the magnets on some folio cases.
I traded both my 2021 12.9" and my iphone 14 PM in with pristine displays. Keep them in a case. For the tablets, keep them in some kind of folio case when not in use.
Unless you drop your stuff a bunch (I personally don't), then I don't see why you'd need them. These displays don't scratch outside of coming into contact with specific objects with a defined hardness level. Jerry Riggs does good videos demonstrating this.
i wish it would go over the bezel kinda looks strange to have like a mirror around the edge imo
The glossy section is for grip
I’m seeing some people with the nano texture saying that fingerprints are almost impossible to wipe off once they get on it- are you finding that to be the case too?
They both take the same amount of effort to wipe off in my experience
Thanks! I think that made my choice. Considering it is as same hard to wipe them out as on my 4th Gen 12.9, I’d hate to keep having that effort.
didnt apple mention you need special cloth to wipe the nano?
@@p5rsona I see it this way: The fact that they add the towel and advise/warn to only use that one indicates that it is more sensitive than the regular glass; therefore, they use a different material, at least for the top layer. So, we can assume that they behave differently with fingerprints and also differ in the effort needed to remove them.
Not at all. I have the nano texture display and fingerprints are really easy to wipe off
The popularity of Apple products and the loyalty of its customer base is a fascinating phenomenon that spans across many countries, including the US and Canada. It's interesting to observe how brand ecosystems create a sense of community and familiarity for users, even though opinions on pricing and product features can vary widely. Discussions about technology choices often reflect the diverse preferences and values people have when it comes to their gadgets and services.
Thanks!
Thank you for your generosity, I appreciate it 🙂
I wonder if Apple will ever add the nano texture option to the iPhone?
Honestly I think Apple missed the mark with this one.
If it was just an outright upgrade, (reducing glare w/ no trade off), I’d pay for nano-texturing without a second thought, but the clarity trade off is so prominent, honestly the nano-texture glass option should’ve just been free.
SO GLAD I GOT THE NANO TEXTURE! SO DOPE

I’d say my iPad Air 4 after years of use has developed a nano-textured glass on its own
Hell yeah!
What do you mean?
@@lihermann i bought it 4-5 years ago now it has so many micro scratches; it was a joke to begin with but.
Thanks for your review which confirms my decision to order the nano texture iPad Pro 13”. I use amongst other things to play music, sometimes outside where reflections are often a problem. I have tried Paperlike screen protectors twice in the past and did not like. The nano texture looks a lot better.
You gotta get the beautiful glossy display
what if we use Armour Etch will it do the job to etch on the glossy ipad pro. Someone should do that to see if it works. 5 dollar coating.
Used a metal ball point nib with my pencil on paper like screen protector its boss
Love the verse from Ecclesiastes 😃
🙂
Islam is the only truth, bible is corrupted.
Jesus Christ (Peace be upon him) never claimed to be God.
Great review! Couldn’t justify the price increase from 256GB to an unnecessary 1TB.
Depends on use case: 11” nano best for travelling/outdoors helping to reflect light. 13” standard glass I’d rather have for at home productivity/occasional media consumption, enhancing clarity/vibrancy
good
I think the use of a screen protector is the main issue for me. Drawing on an ipad that get's a scratch, or even worse and groove that will snag the pencil just enough to irritate me constantly is the reason I went with the traditional glass and slapping a paper like type of screen protector on it. I can replace whenever I need and deal with the muted colors. Also I saved a bit of money as I only wanted the 512 model. If Apple ever offered an ARTIST MAX PRO IPAD haha with replaceable nano texture screens specifically for artists, I would probably be interested. Especially if they did so on a 16" mode that dual boots iOS ;-)
Having broken two screens without a protector, not being able to have a screen protector is a big issue for me.
I am a big fan of matte like screens. II used to buy MacBooks with the Matte option over glossy when Apple had the option., and there was a point where Apple only had the matte option if I remember correctly.
Saying that, my preference was pre-ordering the nano glass version. It looks really nice, But I'm returning it for the standard version because it does look slightly washed out.
I also don't like the border being standard glass. Feels weird when sliding towards the border from the nano glass. Small gripe but still bugs me. I used the paperlike screen protector on my M2 iPad Pro. It was almost the same with the bonus of feeling like paper, and you get the added screen protection. I wouldn't recommend paperlike on the nano glass version.
Great review. Thank you!
So you would say the image qualify downgrade is almost the same as using a screen protector? Not much better visuals with nano vs say paoerlike? You used the word “almost” so I ask more about detail level here
Nice video
So what if you apply paperlike matte screen protector woth 2 screens for $45
Should i get the nano texture or get ipad pro with paperlike
Probably would depend on how long those screen protectors last in terms of scratches and overall longevity. I’d also only consider nano if I was already going for the 1 or 2 TB!
How to clean it ?
Hmmm… Nano Texture or glossy with a Rock Paper? 🤔
How easy is it to wipe down the fingerprints and how durable is the Rock Paper, when not pushing too hard?
Difficult!
but if u want a screen protector it would hinder the matte screen 😅
I have seen both in the store. The nano texture is good, but when you have a darker image the image looked washed out. If you are indoors, the nano texture will loose the pop with a slight haze. Plus the biggest item is you need to spend over 2k for the iPad.
Dude the fingerprints looked just as bad on the nano glass as they did on th eglossy glass! Watch your video back man.
Agreed apparently he can’t see
plus it is better if you often clean the screen-less likely to get infected by germs….
???? I believe he said it rejects fingerprints and smudges way better than previous models….not completely
@@xBillyLamp_ and the evidence that this isn’t the case was right before you’re eyes surely!!!
Its not visible if I watched on my nanotextured screen as well.
There’s clearly downsides to this nano texture - looks more washed out and much worse contrast. Therefore it should be just a free option. 100$ is crazy. Isn’t it somewhat similar to the textured glass back of an iPhone?
Apple launched new iPad Pro models with OLED display and M4 chipset. Users reported grainy display issues, likely due to the Mura effect in dark UI elements. Apple has not addressed the causes or implications of the Mura effect. IS THIS TRUE FROM OTHER RUclipsRS?
