    I'm so glad illustrators and artists are actually giving their hands-on experience with the nano-texture. Too many people were assuming it had no effect on the drawing experience. This is really helpful!

      I’ve even read that people called Apple and specifically asked if it would be different from the standard glass and Apple said no!

      I asked them that specifically at the Apple Event in NYC and they told me it's "the same great feel you've come to expect from the standard glass". But in reality it feels WAY different. I think they are just afraid people won't like it?

      I agree it's expensive! It's the price of a laptop now if you get all the upgrades. I think the nano-texture is a good option IF you are getting that iPad already, but it's not necessary to upgrade JUST to get the nano-texture. There's a lot of factors that go into which iPad to buy, I'm looking forward to putting together an updated iPad buying guide that goes into all the variables.

    Nano texture is great for artists and photographers. If it looks good on matte, it will look good on glossy but not the other way round. I just wished Apple would educate their audience about these subtleties professionals look out for rather than leave consumers scrambling and arguing within themselves on which option to get. And who needs 1TB of storage on an artist's tablet? Ridiculous to pay the high price just to get Nano texture.

    Hi, good evening, Lisa! How are you? Your video helped me choose my iPad Pro. I will go with the standard version because of the color fidelity. Thanks a lot for your help! Take care.

  • @ayokakaiser

    Tested the nano texture in the Apple Store today and found it lovely to draw on (smoother gliding of the pencil, on the glossy surface it sort of gets stuck sometimes as you draw a line). It’s not like a paperlike screen protector at all - which I like.
    But I’m not paying that kind of money for storage that is way beyond my needs plus no durability tests… Might upgrade later when the nano has been through heavy testing from the artist community and is hopefully rolling out on cheaper models as well.
    I think I’ll go with the Air 13“ for now - would probably take the pro if it had the nano texture available for lower storage options. But as it is I’d rather save money and I’m used to the 60 Hz refresh rate from my 1st gen iPad Pro anyway so I probably won’t miss anything (on the contrary - the m2 and pencil pro will be a huuuuge upgrade).
    The layer count in procreate was the same on the Air 13“ and both the pro with glossy screen and nano texture. Not sure about the specs of these devices though - didn’t check that in the settings.

    • @BardotBrush
      @BardotBrush  4 месяца назад

      iPad Air is such an awesome buy. You will love it! The 1TB and 2TB iPad Pro version do have more layers due to the extra RAM but same layer count currently for the iPad Air vs smaller storage iPad Pro. That being said the iPad Air gets a ton of layers and is perfect for a lot Procreate users. I just cant wait to find out when the update is coming for the Apple Pencil Pro.

      This wasn’t mentioned but important; iPad Air uses finger print tech and it’s on the power button which imo is awkward imo. Finger print recognition is more convenient when it was on the home button like on my iPad Pro 1 2015, newer iPad Pro devices use facial recognition which is great especially with passwords and sites where it works so well it’s like an automatic log in.

    I went with the 1TB because I want this iPad to last like my iPad Pro 2018 until now (and still, using it to watch videos while drawing on the new) and decided to go with the nano texture glass because of the anti reflection. I ordered it right after the event and then got a bit worried because everyone was commenting about it not being a good option. But when I sat outside in our garden drawing on it and saw how much it looked and felt like drawing on paper I was so thrilled that I did go for it. I’ve drawn a lot on my 2018 iPad, without a screen protector (but with a 2 finger glove) so I’m used to the slippery surface but this is so much nicer. I also love how your fingers don’t stick when moving around on the screen. Really happy with it!

    • @BardotBrush
      @BardotBrush  4 месяца назад +2

      Yes! I didn't touch on the feel of your fingers/hand on the screen, but it is so nice! It really help your palm glide across the screen. Congrats on your new iPad!

    Thank you for showing us the advantages (and some minor disadvantages) of using the nano-texture option on the iPad Pro M4 😊 Although I’m still somewhat on the fence on buying the 1 or 2 Tb version of the iPad. As I’ll probably only be using it for drawing and photo editing, the Wacom Movink comes to mind for half the money (and you need an iMac Pro to connect it too, but I have that). And right now I have an M1 iPad Pro which I use in conjunction with Astropad Studio for drawing (and that works pretty well too)l. So, I guess I have some soul searching to do ;)

    Thanks, Lisa! I appreciate hearing your perspective and experience. There is no doubt an iPad Pro is an expensive tool and for me, it's helpful to hear the reasons why you prefer this or that, etc. Everyone is going to have a personal preference. I'm considering upgrading my 11" 2020 iPad Pro, 512gb to the 11" M4 1Ttb; based on your review, I've been able to determine that the Nano-texture is something I will likely forego. I use mine to draw, but also to edit photographs and video; now that they exist, I think the best option for me would be to try a magnetic matte screen protector on the standard glass so I can alternate between the two depending on task. 👍🏽

    I'm only getting the 256GB M4. Normally I just use Gorilla Glass to help protect from scratches like I did with my current M1, but this time around I am hearing the new Paperlike screen protectors are way better than previous versions for the new M4's. So it's a wait and see for me. Not upgrading till probably after June once the new IPad has been out awhile and there are more artist reviews out there for the IPad and new accessories.

I would LOVE for the ipad pro to be a mobile solution for those things that can easily handle workloads that include effects and 2d animation, but atm I feel like I am flying blind on this topic and the price tag just makes me unwilling to commit. Very glad to hear this feedback. I purchased the 13” M4 iPad Pro 1TB with nano texture glass and this seems to be the best possible fit for my usage purposes. My intro to digital art was with procreate/ipad pro 11” m2 a little over a year ago. I never used a matte screen protector/opted for a glass screen protector for color fidelity as I didn’t know how far I would go with digital art. It is definitely a skill I am going to be nurturing and then new iPads utility in different lighting conditions, light weight and convenient form factor all reassure me that I am making a good choice. My only hesitation (after dropping some $2200 for this setup) was that the nano texture would not be a good option for one reason or another. Concerns alleviated 🫶🏼 now to wait for my 6/7-14 delivery date 🫠

    I'm still up in the air as to if I want to upgrade or not. I've been really happy with my iPad Pro 12.9" (5th gen). I splurged for the 1TB version and I still haven't filled it up yet. It's still only a few years old and works great. I'm not sure about the screen yet. I don't really mind the paper-like screen protectors, but I've never tried the matte ones either.
    I make my own custom brushes, though, so I would love a video showing off how Procreate is using the new features in the brush studio, and how making brushes with Procreate on the new iPad compares to making brushes with the older iPads, and if it's worth upgrading for those features. If I do upgrade, I might consider skipping the M2 and going for an iPad with the M4 chip if the new features are worth it for Procreate brushes.

    What are you using for a case? On my old iPad Pro I used the Folio Keyboard case because I can fold it back, lay the iPad flat and draw. This case is not available for the new ipad. The new keyboard case will not fold back and allow my to lay the iPad flat. Terrible for drawing. I can type on the screen well enough.
    So what do you use and recommend for a case that is protective yet suitable for use with drawing?

    I’m confused early part in the video you said if you want to use a screen protector on the iPad nano texture is option NOT to go with due to conflict. But at the 5:30 to 6min mark you said it is the better one to go with or did I totally misunderstood?? Myself. I have a Wi-Fi cellular iPad 512. I want the screen, but I use a full body screen protector always on my iPad so that’s why I did not get the nano screen because I was unsure if it was going to defeat the purpose of the anti-career function of the nano texture .

    • @BardotBrush
      @BardotBrush  4 месяца назад +2

      I just watched the video again and I can see what you mean. What I meant was that as someone who prefers a matte drawing texture, between the choice of iPad + screen protector or iPad + nano-texture, I would choose to get nano texture (not screen protector).
      At the beginning of the video, I said I'd always used an iPad with a screen protector to get the matte feel, but I don't need it on my new iPad Pro because the Nano-Texture now serves that purpose for me. I don't plan on using a screen protector on this iPad. But if it's important for you to have a screen protector (to get a rough paper texture or simply for protection's sake) I'd stick with standard glass and add the screen protector.

    since Apple states that we only can use their cloth to wipe the nano screen (coz any other cloth would damage it), I wonder how would it behave if we draw with a glove .. would the glove's cloth damage the screen when drawing?

    • @BardotBrush
      @BardotBrush  4 месяца назад

      I'm not sure why they say to only use the polishing cloth. The pencil against the screen is obviously more abrasive. Maybe other cloths don't work as well? I don't think another cloth would damage the screen.

      Apples never been very consumer friendly. Their products are the best on the line so they charge that price. They have like a Monopoly on tablets. Just like how Wacom cintiques are the best pen display tablets so they overcharge for them. Android tablets feel pretty good but you don't get professional apps like procreate and all the drawing apps are optimized for apple. If they made apps that were like that on Android people would like start using Android more. I think like most people who develop apps are in like contract with Apple. So even if they wanted to they could never make apps for other platforms.

      @@RameshKumar-ng3nf no problem. I really wanted to get like the speced out Nano textured iPad but right now I just can't afford it. I could pay $3,500 to get it. I have the money but with how the economy is right now and I'm not making crazy money since I don't have like a professional career, I can't justify it. If I was a professional artist and it was my workflow and I was making money off my artwork 100%, I would spec it out. I'm not too sad though because I like bigger screens like 14 to 15 or even 16 in. So I'm waiting for in the future when Apple releases a screen like that then I'd be willing to spend to get that extra screen.

    I like your video but you should test protectors on it like Chris did, he found they work great on the nano screen. At this point it seems like a myth that you can’t or won’t want to use a protector on the nano.

      Personally, I wouldn’t want to add a screen protector on top, the nano texture is perfect for me as is. So I still don’t think there is a benefit to having nano texture + a screen protector, but it seems is a possibility if that’s something you want to do.

    Great evaluation but the question still remains - if you opt for the nano texture screen without any protection your screen will still be vulnerable to scratches, stains and everything that might land in it. Only in few years will be able to clearly evaluate the effects of a medium / intensive workflow on the iPad screen. Hopefully the material will endure but we will have to wait.

    The nano texture glass is only for glare, it doesn’t add any actual texture for paper like texture, it’s still slippery and smooth, I tested both at Apple store and actually there’s no difference noticeable, test before you buy!

      Some artists are saying while it does not add friction, it actually is smoother for your hand and pencil to glide eliminating an issue a lot of artists have with the glossy screen without a protector.

    • @BardotBrush
      @BardotBrush  4 месяца назад

      You’re right, as I said in the video it does not add a paper-like texture. But there is a big difference in nano texture vs. standard glass in terms of drawing feel, the nano is much smoother and less sticky. It all comes down to your preference for drawing texture.
