I'd believe it's because of two reasons:
      1. No American Soldiers were stationed here after WW2. Which formed a lot of foreign views of Germany. Which leads into..
      2. It is not a traditional old German City (thanks RAF and other big fires) but a very modern (70s Concrete), international and maritime city.

It's really not as bad as you make it sound like. Hamburg still has a lot of of nice architecture, especially in the city centre and the western parts of the city. It was mostly eastern Hamburg that was destroyed in the war.

@@maltemalte2890 1.I moved to Hamburg in 2008 and I'm still fascinated of its beauty. I actually grow up in a very touristic area in the south of Germany, with a lot of american and asian tourist and I always wondered, why they prefer this place over Hamburg.
The only explanation I have for this is that the tourists just want to experience the cliché of Germany and Hamburg doesn't really fit into it.
      2. I also find it a little bit strange, that Hamburg is often considered as a city without old architecture, because there is a lot of Art Nouveau buildings, Gründerzeit houses or redbrick Gothic in the districts around the Alster-lake(Aussenalster) and in the western parts of the city. In fact there are much more old buildings, than in a lot of other german cities, but unfortunately not anymore in the city centre.
I would highly recommend it, not to miss the posh districts of Eppendorf, Winterhude, Harvestehude, Uhlenhorst around the Aussenalster(Alster-lake), or the alternative neighbourhood Ottensen and also the wealty and relaxed Blankenese when you are into architecture.

as a Hamburger, I totally agree with you that Hamburg has always been such an underrated travel destination. Sure, you do see quite a lot of tourists here but everyone always talks about Berlin, Heidelberg, Munich. I never understand how people who want to travel to Germany never have Hamburg on their radar. Sure I might be biased bc I was born and raised here but it truly is an amazing and beautiful City and if I could, I would put Hamburg in my pocket to show it to other people bc I want others to love Hamburg like I do. Hamburg is so unique. The food, the culture, the scenery, I love everything about my city and like I already said, but I do want to emphasize it again, I just wish more people would come here and experience it too At least for a short while!

Interesting, but not a video I would share to show my friends from outside Hamburg how beautiful the city is. No Alster, no channels, no Eppendorf, Blankenese, Eimsbüttel and so on.

For getting around the city I personally can recommend "MOIA" very much as well, a cheaper (and sometimes even faster) alternative to taxis.

@profdrpioneerkowhh Why the hatred? I have only taken a couple of MOIA rides so far and never had a singe problem, at 2am on a Wednesday when busses and subway weren't operating I only had to wait 3 minutes for a MOIA, the cab company I called before said I should wait over 30mins and MOIA is cheaper. Can't really discuss environmental friendliness since it is owned by VW after all and those batteries are pretty bad as well but on a long run I believe it's better than gasoline. Still, I wonder why you're laughing at me like I was a fool?

Finally an episode about my home city Hamburg! Well done! I can strongly recommend coming here, Hamburg is Germany's most beautiful city. We are also Germany's "Broadway" since there is no other city with so many musicals (at the moment those are "The Lion King", "Cirque du Soleil: Paramour", "TINA - The Tina Turner Musical" and "Pretty Woman". In October 2020 Cirque du Soleil will be replaced be "Wicked").
Also Hamburg is great for Craft Beer lovers: Try "Überquell" (grea variety of beers and wood oven pizzas), the "Craft Bier Bar" or the "Ratsherrn"-brewery (with their pub "Altes Mädchen" next to it). There's also a Brewdog (that being scottish, though!).
    Enjoy Hamburg!

Could you tell me the name of that book? I'm from Hamburg and I would love to read a book that is set in my hometown! (If you can recommend it)

Maxi L. It’s called Your Perfect Year. I enjoyed it. It was a light, fun read. It was translated to English, so I bet it’s even better in German!

After watching this I want to visit Hamburg. I have only been to Dusseldorf and Berlin. Want to return to Germany after Covid-19 is not an issue in regards to international travel.

Germans hate quite a bit Hamburg Hauptbahnhof because of how chaotic it could be. Me too a bit, but the fact of how well connected it is makes me have a love/hate feel towards it haha.

    Wiki
"The term hamburger originally derives from Hamburg,[3] Germany's second-largest city. In German, Burg means "castle", "fortified settlement" or "fortified refuge" and is a widespread component of place names. The first element of the name is perhaps from Old High German hamma, referring to a bend in a river, or Middle High German hamme, referring to an enclosed area of pastureland.[4] Hamburger in German is the demonym of Hamburg, similar to frankfurter and wiener, names for other meat-based foods and demonyms of the cities of Frankfurt and Vienna (in German Wien) respectively. Looking at visiting Hamburg (from the UK) "soon". Just back from a week in Berlin and hotels there seem much cheaper than Hamburg. Is Hamburg popular as a tourist destination?

You forgot to mention the world's biggest park cemetery in Ohlsdorf. And compared to other German cities, Hamburg is indeed quite expensive. Not as much as Munich, but still more expensive than Berlin for example. It can be quite hard to make a living here. AND you do not go to McDonald's! I dare you! We have lots of beautiful burger places here. Try "burgerlich" (www.burgerlich.com/locations/hamburg/) or "Otto's Burgers". Much better and not a food chain. And for my part, I am very happy to have some parts of the city that have not yet become as polished as a lot of places have become over the last decade.

I support all but one point: the public transportation! Studies show, that it is the most expensive in the country and that one in five S-Bahn-Trains is delayed or dose not run at all! With buses you have a similar problem, but since they have such a tight net in the city, you don’t realize it, in the suburbs you do! Also the living costs are after Munich and Berlin the highest in the country.

I really appreciate the RUNDOWN part, I just wish you would convert the currency to US Dollars. I'm not just saying that because I live in the U.S. but because the US Dollar is one of the most widely used currencies in the world. Many countries peg their currency to the U.S. Dollar so it would be useful not just for your U.S. audience but converting the currency in your RUNDOWN would help viewers from other countries. Love your show, keep up the great work!!

If you can't remember having to wait for more than 5 minutes for public transport, you don't use it enough ;) By German standards, it may be very infuriating, actually... Great video, thank you for showing Hamburg like this
