Depends on the photography style. If the scene is static and you are waiting for a subject to enter, then locking the focus beforehand would make sense to remove any delay or confusion on the focus point. If you are following a moving subject then you may want to have focus on the shutter button.
A huge bag for such a small camera. I bought a Barbour cross shoulder bag for the GRii. I can fit in an external flash, batteries and busines cards and still look stylish.
Great video! Mine is coming in a couple of days and can't wait to play around with it. Thank you for your unique delivery and beautiful style while making videos
My gr protips; 1. connect the lanyard to the bottom right of the camera. Not the top. At the top it gets in the way. 2. I rarely charge the battery in camera because the little cover might eventually break off. 3. I glue a piece of glass over the front of the camera to help with the dust
I need the cap and thumbs up 🙏🏼 I am loving the X, coming from the 28mm to the 40mm is exactly what I wanted and needed. Fits my everyday shooting style way more. Still love the GRii/iii. Maybe I’ll have to add one of them to the bag down the road again. Lol
Hi Faizal, I've been using my Leica Q for almost 6 years, since I mainly shoot street photos so it works fine for me. The thing is the 28mm lens on the Q is just too wide sometimes, ergo I use the in-camera crop a lot, turning the 28mm into 35mm or 50mm. Coz the Q is only a 24Mpix camera, so I often end up with a 7 or 8M crop photo, it's even too small for websites. For my case do you recommend the GR IIIx, 40mm seems more handy for me. Thanks in advance!
I have got the Leica Q. I did have the GR111 but now I have the GR111x. I connect to the focal range much more. I would recommend that you get the GR111x. It will be a nice balance with your Q and much more portable.
I have tried many set ups with the Ricoh GR but never got even close to the results of Michael Ernest Sweet. He seems to be the master of the Ricoh GR right after Moriyama.
Faiz that video is dope) i love your style... clean, vintage, relaxing... there is something from ASMR in your videos... what about classic GR iii, why do you prefer GR iiix instead of it, i am going to buy one in a few days, would be great to hear your opinion
Thanks for the vid. It was very helpful as a new GRIIIX owner interested in street. Is there a practical reason you choose not to use Snap focus, and assign related info to the function buttons? Thx.
will affiliate links work on any purchase made after the link is used or only the item of the link? i really enjoy what ive seen on your insta so far. great images and youtube content. 👍
What's the use case for the GRIIIx when you carry a camera bag? Thinking I want something pocketable but like you I almost always have a bag with me anyway. Complement my XT4 with XE4 instead?
Is there a specific photometry mode you tend to lean towards? I know highlight-weighted metering is one feature specifically called out in many reviews of the GR III/IIIx.
Hello, Thanks for those videos that gave me some information. Are you using Jpeg setting or are shooting RAW on this camera for color & B&W photography ?
Can you elaborate on why you are noy keen on the IIIx? I've got the III and was thinking of selling some old gear to fund for the IIIx for the 40mm equivalent in compact body.
@@CineDailies yeh thats why I got the III second hand. Though if you compare it to other recent top line compact cameras it is not that expensive esp with the IBIS and snap focus function. However it does require a bit of getting used to the GR but I don't regret it, definitely not for everyone. The SOOC image quality is top notch though for a casual user like myself.
What software are you using for editing your videos? Some time ago you said that you're getting rid of subscriptions, but I'm not sure if it was related only to lightroom/adobe or in general
Hi love your videos. I have been looking at a GR for years but I keep hearing about dust getting into the sensor that puts me off. Have you found that to be a problem
There are some moments I wish I had a wider lens of course, but that's the case anytime you use a prime lens. I much prefer the longer focal length of the 40 for my own style of street shooting though
is there a way that you can make a more Ricoh Beginner version of this video. I not new to photography but I am new to Ricoh and I found it hard to follow you. I think this video is for people who are very familiar with the Ricoh ??
How do you have 14 posts on Instagram and have 38k people following you? I'm not trying to be smart here, I'm genuinely interested since I just found out about you here. Cheers!
Interesting you don't have back focus on that button... How does Snapfocus work for you? I tried to make it work - but it doesn't work on my shutter. Only when I put it on the touch display that I activate
Love the Ricoh....get rid of the suitcase you are lugging around. Why have such a large suitcase to put the Ricoh in and besides....when walking the streets the Ricoh is in your hand so why have a suitcase at all ?
I'll unsubscribe from your channel because it's so expensive to watch your content. It just costed me a lot of money because I got inspired enough to finally buy the Ricoh GR3x that I'd been wishing for so long now, as well as that beautiful bag. Thanks, buddy! 😭
Thanks!
Completely agree with your technique to map AEL to Fn and keep shutter button for autofocus. Idk why everyone maps AF to Fn.
Depends on the photography style. If the scene is static and you are waiting for a subject to enter, then locking the focus beforehand would make sense to remove any delay or confusion on the focus point. If you are following a moving subject then you may want to have focus on the shutter button.
totally agree with this as well.
Just recently bought ricoh gr iii x. And thanks to your video Faizal. Helps a lot especially for a beginner like me.
I recently purchased a GRiii and this video really helped thank you 🙏🏻 your videos have helped me get inspired to go shoot again
Just discovered your channel recently, and it's slowly turning into one of my favourite photography channels. Great work!
slowly?
Thanks Andre!

Could not agree more with your first point. Such a small adjustment has improve my shooting exp with my GR III.
Even after one hour with my GR I put the lanyard on the bottom....it just makes sense lol
glass infringe of lens like a UV filter can you share a pic ?
@@gurugamer8632 it depends on the quality of the glass but I have not seen any side effects so far.
@@owensoft I am curious. How did you exactly glue a glass in front? What type of glass? How do you glue it? Please show us!
I haven't shot street in awhile but it would be really cool to meet you and/or shoot around Boston with you! Great video!
Thanks for your insights but I am trying to figure out how you are able to see the display in bright sunlight. TYI JB

Gonna need that A7IV settings video next 🏃♂ I need to figure out how to make mine look like that haha.
Agreed. I know this is a photography channel but your video making skills are on point and I think many would be interested.
A hundred percent!
So Faizal made all his videos with A7IV? I just recently followed him, sorry
Awesome video. Haven't bought the GR IIIx yet. My only worry is dust. But the tips on the lens cap, case, thumb grip etc are great.
Congrats on 100k 🎊🌟
Thank you so much 😀
Can u plz share ur settings with positive film presets? And thank you so much
I am here to listen your voice ❤️❤️
Curious about your image for video the color and tones are nice

Hi! Thanks for this video! Quick question, what color profile are you using?
Thanks :)
Great video! Do you have recipes you can share?
assume you use multisegment metering for auto exp? highlighted weighted metering is a unique GR advantage
I will usually use spot metering with P mode!
@@FaizalWestcott right, that makes sense with select af
could you share what colour setup / recipe do you use?
great tips here - thanks!

what do you listen to while you’re making photos? 🤔
Does the gr fit in that soft case with the thumb grip and the lense cap?
What is the best camera focus setting for street photography..
Hello, Thanks for those videos that gave me some information. Are you using Jpeg setting or are shooting RAW on this camera for color & B&W photography ?
halooo can i ask something, where to buy that lanyard, thank you :)
Are you using the positive film picture profile?
How easy is it for dust to enter the camera ?
What memory card and how much memory would you recomend for this camera ?
Hi, in m mode the fn button with one push ae doesn’t work or change anything. Do you know why?
It was because I had auto Iso on…
Beautiful
love this review. i'm still not keen on the GR IIIx but this video was helpful

@UnderBridge Rock fair enough. I agree the GR not for everyone. The latest firmware update has improve the focussing speed imo.

It’s not a problem if you have some common sense
what's camera did you record this video with
can you still put your gr iiix with the jjc metal cap into the official case?
It’s a tighter fit but the leather stretches a little. Mine fits fine!
@@danfirth2678 i bought it, it fits fine. thanks!
Since this is close to the x100v focal length do you ever wish it was the 28mm ?
40mm isn’t really that close to 35mm, surprisingly. In terms of field of view It’s more of a wide 50
There are some moments I wish I had a wider lens of course, but that's the case anytime you use a prime lens. I much prefer the longer focal length of the 40 for my own style of street shooting though
