Howdy! if you somehow found this little channel without coming through our main channel, please head over there and check it out. Back Waters and Back Roads
Looking forward to hearing and seeing ‘The Crossing’ when you finally start the leap! We’ve got the lights on for you in Tarpon Springs… keep your workhorse happy! 🎉💕🙏
Your living my retirement plans man ..... and in some weird way helping me plan better. At the same time inspiring new dreams while installing some useful information 👌 keep floating
That landing craft is likely now a car ferry. They have one of those that runs from Amelia Island to Cumberland Island, or at least did a few years back. Never had reason to transit my vehicle on it myself. Not sure if it was scheduled but likely was on call, as needed. The one at Amelia was a wooden boat and not a landing craft for what that is worth, it tied up at the boat landing or a dock to unload and load. Carrabelle is like Fernandina Beach in that they both still have a commercial fishing industry, mostly shrimping at Fernandina and I think the same at Carrabelle.
I'm thinking we may be overdue for a nice catch and cook. 🐟🐟🤔 I know those fish in Florida bite year round. Thanks for the update per usual. Always a pleasure Captain. 🙏
A nice place to hang out .......I bought a westerly sailboat out of that harbor some yrs ago......place is looking different.....ahhhh sh*t. happens everywhere. Thanks for the update vids. Used to be bull sharks in that harbor and right up the river
I'm dumping my 50-foot schooner to go back to my 50-year old Westerly Centaur. Much easier to handle, tons of storage space and I'm hoping I'll have it back in the water by the time Brenton gets into the Chesapeake Bay this summer.
Carabelle is another nice place on The Forgotten Coast/Big Bend area. I'm glad that things look so good because that hurricane targeted this area last year. I stayed in Apalachicola last summer just days before I got my cancer diagnosis. I'm so glad I made that trip even though I was feeling pretty bad. I got to feeling much, much worse for months after that trip.. Glad you enjoyed your time there.
Wow. Just started following you a week ago, starting with episode 1, im up to 4. I’m in Carabelle right now vacationing from Canada. I saw your boat anchored out in the river. I convinced myself it wasn’t you because I didn’t recognize your towable boat. So cool to see it! How long you here for?
Hey Brenton! My wife and I also enjoy Carabelle which we visit off and on through the winter. We have similar tastes as we prefer the quieter small beach towns. Seems they are only found both there and steinhatchee. Of course the beach is only in carabelle. We passed you and Wayne on the way to the Keys last year on your scooters 😊. Sounds like you had as much use for the Keys as we did 😂
Miniature version of the LST heck, I'd love that one. Enclose the back section of the vehicle well and use the front portion to carry a motor bike or small car LOL
interesting place. Is all the rebuilding from hurricane damage? like the landing craft, a smaller version with a side by side would be the adventurers dream. No on the Willard ! No bananas on board...oranges and lemons for scurvy prevention, bacon dog treats to prevent crew mutiny.
I have been looking at Willards since we spoke about it the other day. I see the basic lines of a Willard there, but, what the heck? That thing is hideous, IMO. Yeah, like they extended the roofline and enclosed the aft deck, then poured a 5 gallon bucket of UGLY all over it.. :) @@brentonsriversidehermitage
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Whoever owns it may get the last laugh when you boat is upside down and theirs is floating like a fishing bobber!😊
Funny you ask! :) I left a slice of bread out last night and who came out to chew on it? That mouse! It has to be living either in the ceiling or under the floor. It's learned to be quiet too. The mouse that did the loop! Stowaway! Lol
Maybe some mouse glue boards next to a banana could lure him? Sure would be a great episode - "The Looper Mouse". Look forward to another update, thank you kindly. Godspeed. @@brentonsriversidehermitage
I'm confused and feel like I just fell through a time warp.... didn't you just post the video of arriving in Carrabelle a couple days ago on the main channel? This video is 3 months old...?
This channel is about 500 miles farther south than Back Waters and Back Roads right now. Since you can float in less than 18" of water, is it necessary to do the 67 miles jaunt across the gulf? Why can't you hug closer to shore - or is it more dangerous to be crossing in the shallows than the deep? (I am a nautical idiot - forgive me)
That's a great question. Nutshell: yes, absolutely we could hug the shoreline and probably be fine. The "problem" is how much longer that would take, and the tides and finding protected anchorages to tuck into. We could totally do it and pop into several official and often overlooked places up in the bend, but crossing over to Steinhatchee in one really long day sort of gets a challenging part of the trip over with in one day. Weather windows seem to be short lived and uncommon this time of year.
I think you have been following along on his main channel "Backwaters and Backroads" like myself. This is a post on Brenton's side channel. Anyhoo, I hope this was helpful and you have yourself a great day ya hear. 😎👍

It's a nice sleepy little town where someone can just relax. I hope you're on the upswing buddy
Looks like a decent place to hang out at while you wait to cross over. Wavy is so cute
Thanks for sticking around Karen ;) We're crossing the gulf tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT video!

Another great video. One captain to another, no bananas on a boat. Bad juju Lol. Can’t wait for the trip update. Be blessed my friend!!
I wonder how that works for the boat that hauls the bananas to the port at Gulfport ms
We've gotta' ask Harry Belafonte about that. I'm pretty sure he was stacking those bananas in a 'boat' of some kind.@@brianquinn3451
Nice little video. The Willard is a strange looking boat.
Thanks Brent I'm a watching you and keeping you company. Nice video as always ❤
Thats an LCM 6 ww 2 design 56 ft landing craft they made them from ww 2 right up till the 1960s for the Army and Navy !
Nice update Brenton, really enjoy both channels, good luck on the crossing!
Love the night time view. Reminds me of anchoring on Lake St. Clair at night minus the big lights from Selfridge ANGB.
The Willard almost looks like a big Portland Pudgy LOL…cool video man

Brenton this is awesome. Beautiful scenery there.
Hi Deanna ;)
Excellent video...I hope you met with ice cream conditions on your passage across the pond.
Looks like a calm sunny spot
Great

@1:38 😂
That Willard boat looked like a repurposed life boat. Just picture it in rescue orange color!
Hi Brenton and Wavey 😊😊😊

Insurance in the panhandle, or as we call it the hurricane magnet area, will cost an arm and a leg for any home you build.
Good day glad you're not on your side at low tide
Yup still here still waychin
🏖🏖🏖🏖🏖
Did u stop at dock at Destin or Panama City or Port Saint Joe or the Little St George islands or Dog island ? If so where are the views?
Oh yes. We're getting to those videos;)
I don't think that is a Willard, that is a Clorox bottle with windows. What an eye-sore! Hi Wavey!
Hi Don :) it said "Willard" on the side;) I think they encased the back in??

Did you stop off in Pensacola?😀
Yes sir. We spent a few days in Chico Bayou :)
Curious, did you ever get that live aboard mouse you had a while back?

Yes, we sometimes do a "real time' in a place, while the "Time out of Mind" time line is still catching up.
When did you start this channel?
Many years ago ;) I just never promote it.
