CFD Analysis of a F4U Corsair Airplane using Stallion 3D v 4.0

- The CAD file for the F4U Corsair was obtained from GrabCAD. More information about Stallion 3D can be found at www.hanleyinnovations.com
The analysis was performed in the following steps:
1. Import the aircraft STL file
2. Set the flow field conditions (angle = 2 deg, speed =150 m/s)
3. Setup the CFD. Number of cells about 800,000, RANS solver
4. Automatic grid generation
5. Grid generation & flow solution was about 4 hours to 3000 iterations on a 4 core laptop PC.
6. Perform aerodynamics analysis using Stallion 3D built-in tools.

Very cool
+North Lake Thanks
i want a program that asks.. would you like us to optimize this design.. click yes.. and WALLAAA
its nice to analyze...BUT...how do you IMPROVE the designs
Hi, I was very surprised to see the L/D as "15.96" which seems to be unusually high for such an RC plane. The L/D for Airbus A320 with such high Reynolds number and such high aspect ratio is around 18.. thanks
Hi Bagrat, thanks for your comments. In this case, only the pressure drag was computed. The friction drag was not included in the l/d computation. Stallion 3D v4 computes both friction and pressure drag.
Hello Dr Patrick Hanley, it's a very cool software you have there. I am building a VTOL quadplane (UAV) for surveillance applications, and I wonder if Stallion 3D is suitable for quick CFD (and FEA) simulations? Also, how could I calculate the reference area and reference moment length for a custom UAV? By "reference area" you mean the frontal area?

Can u send the link for download this software...
