- Holbein was one of the most accomplished portraitists of the 16th century. He spent two periods of his life in England (1526-8 and 1532-43), portraying the nobility of the Tudor court.

The sketches make these people come to life!
What a gift he had
One of my most favourite Artists x😘
Holbein's drawings are so life like. Especially the faces.
It is interesting to see that so much can change, from technologies to way of thinking and even fashion.
But looking at the faces of these people, most of them have typical British facial features.
Captivating. Holbein was a genius
I feel like I'm looking into the eyes of living people from 500 years ago, who are also looking back at me through some temporal window.
I agree with you!
This is wonderful. I love Holbein's court portraiture. These drawings are just sublime and set a very high standard.
Fasinating. Love the music. I can feel it.
These are quite wonderful. I never knew that they existed.
Humans are so diverse and beautiful lol. So cool to see old peeps
Love them.
It's amazing, thank you
The portrait of the smiling woman at 1:00 is my favorite. Lovely colors and details and in most portraits the people are not shown smiling so to see her face lit up like that is refreshing.
She's Mary Wotton Lady Guildford aged 27.
The painting shows her less smiling. Perhaps someone didn't like that.
Thanks, they are impressive, they remind me of portrait sketches by Ingres.
He must have had some photographic eye with these drawings.
I like your content! Very nice......subbed👍
Thank you so much for the sub and nice comment
❤️
Thank you for the heart.
This is my artwork
The sketches are so life like but the paintings are so flat. Cartoonish even. I love Holbein's work but why is that?
Sketches are produced quickly, which allows them to capture movement and interesting lighting from life, while detailed paintings were slower and adhered more strictly to artistic canons.
