I'm living in Erbil now! I'm from the UK and I can confirm that Erbil is a great place to be. The people are friendly, welcoming and generous. I haven't paid for a meal since I arrived and I've been here nearly 5 months! The weather is great and I love going to the busy bazaar, drinking tea and watching the people. It's truly been a great experience, the food is really good. I'm gonna be sooooo fat when I leave Kurdistan...not that I want to leave, it's really been a lot of fun. There isn't a beach but that hasn't mattered. There are some lovely parks - Sami Park is huge and there are all the modern shopping malls you could want (Family Mall, Tablo Mall etc) Shaqlawa & Akre aren't too far away, they're great places to visit too. Come here for a holiday!
As an Assyrian I would love to visit the homeland, hopefully one of these days! Hey, Doug, if you decide to revisit Kurdistan, you should visit the newer parts like Dream City. There are also new suburb projects that they've been working on as well! I would also recommend visiting during the Assyrian New Year (Akitu) on the first of April, where you can meet Assyrian people who are indigenous to Iraq.
Personally I think middle easterners are the only ones impressed by places like Dream city. The westerners I see go there, find it extremely generic, plasticy, boring and just a fancy place for rich people. They are much more fascinated by truly Kurdish/Assyrian/Yezidi/whatever local places, with lots of culture and traditions. Best times to visit are definitely during Newroz and Akitu. The nature also looks at its best at that time.
I love your Iraq videos. I was born in Iraq Baghdad but ended up leaving bc of the way. It’s been decades since I been to Iraq. Your videos always brings joy to my face. Keep it up

Love this video but my favourite part was at 5:25 when you told the little kid to go go and the other one yelled at him “watch the car” 😂 so glad you enjoyed your stay. Keep up the good work!
There is always a few Azerbaijanis showing love to Kurds in every video about Kurds. I wonder why considering that they’re very close to Turkey. Kurds literally have no knowledge about Azerbaijan nor will they ever comment on Azerbaijan. How come Azerbaijanis are so friendly and supportive? I’m asking respectfully and I’m really curious.
@@zuwassereau when Azerbaijan gained independence. Qazi Muhammad the external force to push Kurdish nationalism was inspired and wanted to gain the same freedom to Kurds. Unfortunately he was hanged by the Iranian government and didn’t have many Kurds on his side. Azeris probably sympathize with us because of Iran and the Kurds from the east being their neighbors. But when it comes to the northern Kurds the Azeris will be hostile because of the pkk and separatism.
