Been saying this too. Most of the story's possibilities seem to depend on the past, and Ardyn is literally part of that same past. His game could be set anywhere in the 2000 years or even beforehand (which I prefer actually). Would help Ifrit's case too.
Have you played The Wolf Amongst Us? or know the real tragedy of Handsome Jack DeWitt from Bioshocklands: The Lords of The Colossus Raider's Shadow II: [+Rμ§+ no 1] Walmart Collector's Deluxe Box Set
Ardyn needed the King of Light to get killed. That's the awesome thing of this man, that whatever happens he wins. If Noctis kills him for good, he wins because he wanted to rest; if he kills Noctis, that's a take that to the Crystal for having spurned him, and either way the world is damaged. Truly a villain we hadn't seen in a long time. Plus they FINALLY designed an attractive man who is not a bishonen. Nothing wrong with bishonen, but mature, manly men can also have their charm.
Ardyn. Just Ardyn. This is the reason why I think he's the best villain in the FF franchise. He's unpredictable, and is one of, if not, THE only one who was able to make every single kingdom turn against each other just to execute his plan to turn their world into a world filled with daemons, and he executed it perfectly. Forget Kefka! Ardyn is the one!
Gentiana/Shiva says herself why she woke up. She detected that one bound to darkness was trying to rouse Ifrit and she rose to defend her beloved... And Ardyn knew where Shiva was resting and set up the Niflheim army to intercept her when she did. In the end we have to fight a Starscourge-corrupted Ifrit after all...
Ardyn's first line to the chocobros. ''The boats bring you here...'' Ardyn's last line to the chocobros. ''The throne brings you here.'' Ahhh! I love this man!
You know its amazing theories like this that make me realise what an amazing story Square Enix have made on their hands - if only they had presented this game with amazing care and detail to the story, with all these points from all the add ons and extra anime/movie, and without the focus on westernising the franchise this story couldve made this the greatest final fantasy we have ever had imo
It's curious that the line translated in English at 13:20 , it's different from the line translated in Italian. Here it is the italian line: "Splendida, come il giorno in cui ti ucc..." Here it is the translation: "Beautiful, like the day I kill..." (probably "I killed you") Sorry for bad english :)
Ciccio Pancetta i didnt make any sense inenglish translation for me. You cannot guess what he was thinking about therefore this line was unneccessary . Your translation make it obvious
I don't know if the original intent was that HE alone killed her or anything, but apparently the cut off line is supposed to end with "the day you died" or something along those lines. Excuse me for the lack of citation.
I still don’t think he’s truly evil. I kind of feel like things were fated and Ardyn understood this. I feel like he knew that he had to become antagonist, he wasn’t given much a choice.
So it was a graaand scheme of how to finally die. After discovering Noctis, he knew that the right time has come, so he started his master plan by waking Shiva?
This is just a fantastic theory. Head cannon accepted. These theory videos of yours saved ffxv for me. I love and hate it at the same time these days but this sort of stuff lets me have a least some joy out of it. Thanks Pez !!! Always look forward to your videos. KUPO!!!! Lol
Your theories are fantastic Pez. To the point where they help me appreciate 15 more. There's so much to this game below the surface and it's good to have an eye to what it all is. Even if it's just theor-ehs :P
I've been wondering about a lot of these points as of late, and their relation to Arydn and his plan for revenge. The game gave us a lot of tidbits. In texts found, images seen, conversations had, etc. -- Not just in FMVs. I liked that this game was not overtly explanatory. Ardyn wasn't a Bond villain revealing his plan to us, he was eager instead to execute it. And we, as Noctis, are not trying to save the world at first, but rather, gain revenge of our own. Lastly, its Theory Vids like these, especially XV related, that got me into your channel. Keep it up Pez. I got a Patreon account for you and you alone. Thx for making an FF fans life better with each video.
I love how FFXV haters or FFV13 lovers are still hating on this game. Like don't they have anything else to do? Those of us who enjoyed the game want to know this stuff. just wish those people would go bother some other community.
Sidney Cheng I don't care what square say a new empire is not cannon ok!!! It should be locked away in pittios with the scourge until it mutates into a good game or GTFO
Holy fuck that is one hell of a connection.... this is EXACTLY why we NEED an ARDYN DLC!!!! All these things revolving around Ardyn really give me hope that it's most likely we will see Ardyn dlc as the last bonus dlc
Pez, you should do a collab with Dark Pixel sometime! They mentioned they'd love to have you in their latest podcast and I love both of your channels and think it'd be awesome! :D
This might also explain that cut scene of Luna being abused as a child. The man that attacked her was wearing the armour of a brigadier general of the Niflheim Empire. Maybe when they took Luna into custody (after the attack that you see in Kingslaive), maybe he wanted to hurt or even kill her because she was an oracle and her power was the source of their misfortune. Maybe Ardyn intervened before he could kill her though because Ardyn still needed her to follow through with his plan (leading Noctis and summoning Astrals for him in the future).
Subbed after watching your "almost sold out" video, much respect and your theories are so good and i dont want to try and collect all the FF so the history is good too
This may not be related to the video but, you know how the camp havens have markings on them with magical demon warding properties? Think about the doors that Ezma locked away. The only difference is the color. Does that mean the Red Mages (hunters) created these havens. Also, a hunt from the Chocobo outpost said something along the lines of "Relics of the Past"(?). I have no idea but in that hunt, there were Necromancers and Skeletons. Pez theorized that Solheim experimented with immortality, and became these demons. So does that mean the Red Mages were from Solheim originally? Costlemark has similar markings.
Thank you so much Pez for your continued theories videos! FF XV was amazing as a game, but it lacked in storytelling, you make up for it, you have actually made it better. Thank you for your hard work!
there is actually a deeper plot going on here then we first realized Ardyn didn't simply want revenge on the family and gods who had betrayed him but on the world itself, think about it, Izunia villainized him before the eyes of all the people he had sworn to protect and save and in turn the gods ignored his plea for salvation. everyone had cast him out and called him a demon. so that is what he aspired to become a demon who would destroy everything they hold dear. somewhere along the way the fallen god Ifrit had grown to sympathize with Ardyn and told him secrets about the star scourge and of the demons thus did Ardyn gain an understanding of how the world truly revolves and began planning to rid the world of this false "light" which caused the scourge to exist. thus with the light smothered and the demons and lucis family brought down Ardyn would become the savior once more in the eyes of the people, but his hands would be far from clean he realized he''d have to dirty them here and there to obtain his ultimate objective and so manipulated niflheim into creating demons and going to war with Insomnia. some may ask of course why did he wait so long to set his plan in motion? wouldn't have been easier to have just killed izunia and take the crystal and smash it into pieces? yes and no because the people at his time already knew his face through out the entire kingdom they would mistrust him and turn against his plan. he needed time and resources that simply weren't available to him back then.
mangekyoworld he was powerless to the crystal...so he had to wait for the true king...only through noc could he achieve his goals...so no you're wrong in he could have done it any time..but good theory..kinda.
It really is sad that we get more story from the fan theories we make rather than square Enix providing this in the game. Seriously, they could have held back the release date instead of giving us and incomplete game.
I can't praise this dude enough for coming up with such a comprehensive, fitting, thought through and self-explanatory theory, which is most likely the truth.
woo! these are the kinds of videos I love!! Solid theory; well honestly I'd say it's damn near confirmed canon. You explain shit so well - If only Pez could direct a retelling of FFXV, lol. Ardyn is best villain yo
The marriage of an Oracle and a Prince would be a smokescreen happy occasion for a struggling world. He also did it because Luna was close to Noctis and Regis and would give him the opportunity to ruin it... A little reverse psychology.
Pes I've seen in multiple videos you refer to "Tenebrae Soldiers" however what you keep calling Tenebrae soldiers are actually Niflheim Imperial Troops and not Tenebrae soldiers.
This has been very interesting. I feel thanks to you I can appreciate 15 more. I did remember you saying a while back that you fault SE for hiding the story and putting it all over the place.
Can anyone explain to me how Shivas corpse is causing an eternal blizzard if Shiva is alive and well in the form of Gentiana and even a viable summon, please? I seem to have missed a lot of very basic details in my first play through.
Hey final fantasy you make a mistake, at 11:00 you says Tenebrae people "saw what happen to their neighbor" i though Tenebrae fallen before shiva been kill (M.E 744) and shiva been kill during (M.E 745)
I agree it was Ardyn who woke up Shiva and I think the reason is because he simply could. I am pretty sure he was the first Oracle. Here is another detail. I am pretty sure that as Shiva/Gentiana was connected to Luna, Ifrit was connected in some way to Adryn. Awesome theory and awesome vid :)
So we can all agree that Ardyn is the best FF villain, right? Alongside Caius Ballad and Ultimecia. Funny how the "least liked" FFs have the best villains.
How do you get this level of detail in your videos pez! Its like you replay the entire game searching for the right clips to support your THEOREHs. Bravo!
Someone, please answer me : So, when Shiva died, she transfered her soul into Gentiana, but why not ifrit ? and why Pez said that ifrit died with the body of Eos in the mount of Ravatogh when he's alive at the end of the game ?
Pez theorised that that ifrit was also a messenger/vessel like gentiana was, that s why it's small like shiva compared to bahamut at the final fight, but it's just a theory tho.
dude ... U'VE OUTDONE U'R SELF AGAIN!!!! THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!! I can't believe the peaces could paint souch a logical picture ... I sir bow to u'r research ˇ-ˇ
Not to say I know everything about this game or anything like that but, wasn't obvious that Izunia woke up and killed Shiva same with Ifrit, and that he would only be listened to as a last resort by the Empire, especially when it come to demons. My only question is how and why is behomid in the crystal ( please excuse my bad grammar)
One issue with this theory is that Shiva awoke a year after Sylva's death. The Nifs invaded Fenestala Manor and killed Queen Sylva in ME 744. Shiva woke up and was killed in ME 745 as a direct result of the attack on Tenebrae and the Oracle. Gentiana had been living with the Oracle for quite some time by then. She or Sylva is most likely the instrument of Shiva's awakening.
Ramuh is the key. he was their for terra/tina & was very proactive in helping us, but now he reminds me, as being the one behind everything in a similar sense as to ardyn. either that or he's just a god/summon of no consequence. im going to check if his ixion/lightning bolt/throwing dart has 3 points. "trident". guess its time i unretire my spinfoil hat.
just going to say that ramuhs, ixion/throwing dart can be seen like a trident. just before he throws it, it could appear to be a trident? not sure if my spinfoil hats to tight already?
If Ifrit was woken up before Shiva, why would he willingly give information on her (given how almost easily he fell to her powers)? And why wait so long to make an appearance?
I knew Ardyn was this scheming bastard and behind everything bad that happened. But damn, the freezing of an entire kingdom? That's ice cold, pun not intended. Like, all this because he got excommunicated from the Lucis Caelum family for getting taken over by darkness. And technically he won because it caused the entire fall of Insomnia. The last and final king is dead with no off springs to take the place. There is nobody next in line. And of course Gentiana comes to Luna and Noct at a young age in hopes they'll be the saviors. But, in the end, it was also victorious because Ardyn was finally put to rest, and the darkness finally ended. It was bittersweet thanks to Ardyn and all the casualties.
I think I've found the visual inspiration for Ardyn - bear with me here - Nicholas Cage, specifically in The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Probably not the official inspiration, but you check it out and tell me there's NO resemblance here. Thanks, pez, for another great video =)
I'll say it again. I don't want an Ardyn dlc, I want an Ardyn game! Think of the possibilities!!!!
Been saying this too. Most of the story's possibilities seem to depend on the past, and Ardyn is literally part of that same past. His game could be set anywhere in the 2000 years or even beforehand (which I prefer actually). Would help Ifrit's case too.
I wonder how many games have taken place from the viewpoint of the antagonist.
+Bob Hammock not many.
Have you played The Wolf Amongst Us? or know the real tragedy of Handsome Jack DeWitt from Bioshocklands: The Lords of The Colossus Raider's Shadow II: [+Rμ§+ no 1] Walmart Collector's Deluxe Box Set

Perfect way to describe Ardyn: if Jesus held a grudge.
Love this comment and I agree with you

I don't care how much people might hate this game, but ardyn is undeniably one of the best, if not the best, FF villain of all time
Ngl I would agree more if his choice to oppose his fate & those unreleased DLCs were canonical. That would make him the evil Mr. Final Fantasy.
My second favorite ff villain of all time. Chaos pez is #1
The Symbol of Peace
his plan was way more complex than Cauis Ballad in Final Fantasy xiii 2. both immortal but Ardyn is crazier
#ArdynDeservedABetterGame
Damn... I feel like if someone would just give Ardyn a damn hug every once in awhile, he wouldn't be so homicidal all the time (I'll hug u Ardyn-KUN)

I love Ardyn Izunia Seeing your username, it's expected 😂

Those black, hollow eyes... This is definitely Kenny's fault.
exaflare kenny is also in the prompto dlc in the first base.
My goodness this made me fall in love with Ardyn even more. We need a XV-2 focusing JUST on Ardyn!!!
After really thinking back on the games story, the only part that appealed to me was Ardyn. Such an interesting character with so much to him.
Ardyn would have been a great villian if the game actually focused more on him. But, like nearly everything in this game, it was rushed and screwed.
god i live for these ardyn theories
Timur Kral LMAO
Imagine Ardyn singing metal music

I always thought it was referring to some ceremony in the distant past Ardyn had with the gods.
I don't know if the original intent was that HE alone killed her or anything, but apparently the cut off line is supposed to end with "the day you died" or something along those lines. Excuse me for the lack of citation.

How and why did Ardyn arrange Luna and Noctis' marriage?
The marriage of an Oracle and a Prince would be a smokescreen happy occasion for a struggling world. He also did it because Luna was close to Noctis and Regis and would give him the opportunity to ruin it... A little reverse psychology.

just going to say that ramuhs, ixion/throwing dart can be seen like a trident. just before he throws it, it could appear to be a trident? not sure if my spinfoil hats to tight already?
Watching this again makes the abstinence for this whole story too real
I think I've found the visual inspiration for Ardyn - bear with me here - Nicholas Cage, specifically in The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Probably not the official inspiration, but you check it out and tell me there's NO resemblance here.
Thanks, pez, for another great video =)
