Love koh Samui. My favorite place in Thailand. Wish I would bought land there twenty years ago when I had a chance. The food looks so tasty and delicious. I need some. I always enjoy your video Gary. Look forward to them. Hope you had a great holiday on Samui mate
Really appreciate your explanations of the condiments (krueng) with soups and fried rice. In my first introduction to Thai food, 40+ years back, my friend explained the importance of balancing the prime flavors - sweet, salty, sour and spicy- to enjoy the most authentic and delicious Thai dining experiences.
Good work Lawrence & Gary! Loved seeing the real authentic side of Koh Samui! That coffee stop has surely been added to the Koh Samui google pins! Cheers
the egg on that red rice is very well fried, that's how I like to eat it..not only the island has developed, but all of Thailand if I compare that with when I first arrived in the 80s.only the food remains about the same .Yes, everyone has their own taste, that's what the ingredients are for on the table. with the little one it is definitely recommended to take a plane Gary 👍
Another winner Gary lovely video, family time is special. Food looked great especially that pork. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, it really helps when you visit these places. Nathon looks really chilled especially the coffee shop, my kind of place.
Truly appreciate your efforts to search for authentic food in Khao Samui. Not at touristy places because there it's too expensive and quality is less...and easy to complain.
That’s called “kao pad rod fai” (train fried rice) its called a train fried rice because it was invented in a Thai train station a long time ago (not to sure about the history) very rare to have the restaurant that’s serve this kind of fried rice. Glad you enjoy it!
Another great video Gary We were there in 1998 loved driving around the island looking for food places. Went to Nathon then, you’ve brought back some great memories. We will finish our month trip north to south in koh samui in December just before we fly into Bangkok for that food tour with you. Wishing the time away now. Definitely will visit those places you’ve been. 😉👍🏻
Yes 👍, you really found the really good local, authentic Thai/Chinese fried rice for your subscribers. I enjoy different foods but I have never seen this fried rice anywhere. I love noodles and enjoy coffee in the morning . I agree with you , loving the peaceful town that you are staying.
If you're going solo from Bangkok, I'd recommend what I did. Especially if you despise airports. I took the Bangkok night train to Chumphon then a bus to the pier and a boat to Koh Tao except you can take the train to Surat Thani then a bus to the pier and finally a boat to Koh Samui's Nathon pier. Either way is an adventure worth trying at least once.
@@helee28 Hi Helee, you can just say ferry. Most buses from the train station are owned by the ferry company called Lomprayah Ferry. You can purchase a Bus+Ferry combination ticket ahead of time from 12GO. That is what I did. Keep in mind, if you're taking a train, they are almost always late getting to their destination. I took the night train from Bangkok to Chumphon and it got to Chumphon 2 hours late. Luckily, my Bus wasn't scheduled to pick me up for 1 more hour. Make sure you plan on being at least 2 hours late to your destination if traveling by train.
@@WushuTaz Thanks Bryan. I've done this before, but the first bus that picks up from Surat Thani station, the conductor was very confused at what I was saying but it's my fault, I said "raja ferry office" thanks to info I found on a random blog. Now I know I can just go straight to the ferry and get tickets. Sea tran is definitely my favourite 😌
@@helee28 That's too funny. I have yet to try Sea tran since they were still not doing boat rides due to Covid until recently. I'll give them a go next time.
Koh Samui is a favorite of mine. I was lucky to have Thai friends that were working there and had the inside scoop on where to go. There used to be a weekly night market right at the Nathon pier. Don’t know if it’s still there? Chaweng is fun don’t want to stay there very long. Plenty of chill places on the island and everyone is very nice 😊
Great video as always. I've missed a few lately as life has been too busy for me to find the time to watch RUclips. Decided to join your channel after watching for so long. I hope you don't have to take a VPN sponsorship anytime soon! Cheers from Australia! 🤠
Great info as usual. We stayed on the same coast in Lipa Noi for our 2 nights quarantine back in March, very quiet and peaceful with a lovely beach. Could've done with the car hire info back then but will remember for next time. We wanted to take a car to Koh Phangan but nodbody would let us take a car on the ferry 😢
The fried rice remind me of khao pad rod fai ( ข้าวผัดรถไฟ) old fashion fried rice made with pink yentafour sauce. They only sell it on train station, it’s hard to find it now.
@@theroamingcook TNT Tim Newton Today mentioned a CNN article on the 50 top street foods. Maybe could be an idea where you judge the findings lol. Agree or disagree? Just an idea. Have a tasty day.
Thanks for showing that Samui has more to offer than Lamai an Chaweng - next year I will be back again with my family. But before we fly to Samui, we are some days in Bangkok: Can you recommend a car company to drive us from BKK to KSR? As our daughter will be 2 years old, a car with child seat feels safer to us than a regular/large taxi. Thanks 😀
My pleasure Chistoph. Can you message me directly and I'll give you some options? Can get me on Instagram, Facebook or email at theroamingcook@gmail.com

The Airport is really tiny but practical! Thanks for the showing us the nice food! 🌶️🔥🙏
Very practical! Thanks for watching mate
"make it to your flavour" is the ultimate understanding of thai food, frankly.
For sure!!
Koh Samui, never disappointed me when it came to food and things to see and do. Love that island.

Yes for sure, everywhere has developed. I wish I had been in the 80’s! Must have been so much fun
@@theroamingcook yes some things were better and others not,, development has its pros and cons,,, but the 80's were dirt cheap for us westerners.
