Nice little stable flying quad with a pretty good gimbal for video shooting. It's a great area for flying no people, no trees, no buildings and no restrictions, I love it.
Have to state that I followed your link and purchased the Quad ... without knowing that they were taking off for a week or more. That meant that the quad even with expedited delivery was over a month in coming. Then I eagerly charged the battery and the controller. Great lights on the Quad, the controller does not function. And the Vendor does not respond to emails. Not to be deterred I went directly to GDU-Tech who replied, "We're sorry to hear of your problem, you'll have to work through the vendor", that's the vendor that isn't responding to my emails. I've always had good response from the vendors you dealt recommended.

Thanks for your input, those are items that I had completed when I contacted Geekbuying. I'm aware of the issue of a language barrier and also the time zone issues. We're actually in a four-way discussion with myself, Geekbuying, GDU-Tech Customer Experience, and GDU-Tech Marketing. The word was and remains "We will be coming up with a solution shortly." I've had similar problems with electronics in the past and I have to give Kodak the highest Customer Service response ... even though the product was not well received in the market. I notified them of a problem with a printer head and received a replacement by Air Express the following morning, less than 12 hours. They asked me if I would assist by returning the bad head, provided everything for shipping including a telephone number to notify the shipper when it would be ready for pick-up. I returned the head and they sent me a complimentary gift when they received it, didn't even mention it in our communications. I suspect that this issue will be resolved in some way eventually but there was a time issue for my purpose when ordered and paid extra for expedited delivery. It didn't get expedited, live and learn, c'est la vie. Happy flying ... my wife wants to go to some of the areas you fly in when we head for my sister's in Desert Hot Springs. We'll see.
This hits squarely into the new DJI Mavic Air territory for less money, and no flight restrictions! Mavic Air is supposed to have a 20 min flying time but realistically when you do a lot of hovering that consumes more battery, so I would expect similar times. Great Review Q101!
I didn't get how the arms can slide... I mean are they concentric or slightly not in axis with each other? Nice thing though...like it! Great portability and lots of cool features!
Looks great, price is high but for the features is good, btw did you check that when you tried to select circle me you actually selected follow me, that's why it didn't circle around you, just a note because I didn't see the note you usually make in this situations
I don't keep them (don't have the storage space), nor do I sell them or do giveaways (don't have the time or want the hassle of packaging and mailing). After their reviews are completed, they are piled in the back of my van and donated monthly en masse to local schools and charities (Toys for Tots and local schools Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) clubs).
Great review! My opinion... This was first offered last year about the August time frame and I didn’t have the money to buy during the special promotion that ended. I asked if I could get promotion price before the end of the year and couldn’t. So I decided to wait for availability and reviews. Last year it was unique in price and features but now the Air is a direct competitor. Now I’m leaning toward the Air but I’m waiting for more reviews by people who have actually purchased it. I’m looking forward to more from you on the GDU O2. Thanks!
Those arms look very breakable, but overall not bad. They should have brought it out sooner, because now there is the Mavic Air, which is actually a Spark Pro for the same price. Thanks for showing
This one looks like a decent high end camera drone. But at it's current price, I don't how it compete's with DJI's offering's, including the newly released Mavic Air. To succeed in this space you have to offer something DJI doesn't ( and I don't count the snap on TX as a ground breaking feature) or come in at a lower price with the same features. Nice review Sir.
Real nice quad and one big plus, the lack of "NoFly Zones" which some bureaucrats got carried away with like DJI. Once this bird gets more refined I hope it becomes a big competitor to the DJI market which should keep the prices down. I might add, quads with brushless motors are not toy drones so beginners should start with a Syma brushed quad first before getting into the brushless drones. Thanks for your real good review on the GDU 02 quad.
I have a quick question. When you calibrate the drone why don't you just with your hands flip it around instead of walking around in a circle. It would be easy to show and easy to do. Most importantly, you wouldn't get dizzy. One other comment, might I suggest moving your microphone a little bit further away from your voice as we can hear every moan and groan you make i.e @ 11:50. It sounded as if you were out of breath. just a comment. I have followed your channel , you do good reviews but I have a question, you always say "as such" where are you from?
Great Job Quadcopter101 your reviews are very easy to follow and you explain the pros and cons...thank you... Do you get to keep the GDU 02?? I would love one
My drone GDU 02 was defective, the photos and images are out of focus. I have already contacted Banggood and also GDU, unfortunately so far I have not found any solution to my problem. Can you tell where I can buy the camera and gimbal kit?
Quadcopter 101, thanks for another excellent video. I’ve been waiting for an objective review of this drone and you have come up with the goods. The GDU 02 will have it’s work cut out competing with the Mavic Air, but for me the Air is a non starter because I have never been able to install the DJI Go app on my Android 6 phone. I don’t care to shell out for a new phone (which would probably have to be an iPhone) as well as the Air. The GDU app does run on my phone as well as the apps for the Xiaomi, Autel and Walkera drones and the Tower app for Mission Planner so I don’t understand why DJI has this issue. Could you comment on the strength and rigidity of the slide out arms? I wonder how much “overhang” is left to secure them when they are extended and if this might be a weak point.
Yep, the DJI Go app's performance was aggravation for me as well. It almost forces you to buy an iPad/iPhone if you want to use the app with the drone. As for the arms, they're aluminum and seem to be very rigid in their connection.
Love your reviews been looking for a TRUE 360 obstacle avoidance drone like Gdu although it doesn't have it like that, today Skydio released info on the new Sydio 2 which does. Wondering if you could possibly get your hands on one for a great review. They say the price point is even better than the first R1. Thanks
How do you find these very nice drones like this one I believe the C-fly seen hear first. I love that It will do what is advertised and best I don't hear that sound or see The logo I dislike DJI. Please let me know
Very cool little quad very good video may I ask approximately what area you fly in looks like awesome flying country I have some video interference issues down here in the city of Orange need to find a great wide open area I have many gps drones Thanks for the video
Not a fan of onboard storage only :( Everything else looks great on this tho. What's so hard about putting in an SD card reader? How much 4k footage would fit on 12gb anyway? I wonder what the size comparison of this folded up with controller would be to the Mavic Air folded up with its controller with sticks off rubber banded together.
Hi, Another great review of an extremely interesting product. I noticed that when you tried to do circle mode you selected follow me by mistake and this is probably why it didn't work. I was wondering though, can you pre-plan waypoint missions in a manner similar to the Litchi app with a DJI Phantom? Many thanks, Paul :)
So app can't save missions but the drone can hold one mission at a time, like in Mission Planner ? But I guess you can load that mission to the drone before you set out and fly it when you get to the site.
No, the mission is lost if you remove power from the drone. In effect, you have to plan the missions at the site just before flight. Also, it's currently very basic missions. You simply pick waypoints on a Google map and the drone will fly the route at constant speed constant altitude. But if your concern is data availability at a remote site, you can save the maps into your phones cache at home using your home WiFi. Simply open the app at home while connected to WiFi, open the app's map section, and scroll around the area where you plan to fly. Satellite or 2D maps will be saved to your phone. The app will automatically open them when you get to the site.
I love your vids. I recently got a C-Fly Obtain. A mavic clone without breaking the bank. Flew great on first flight while in altitude hold. Moment I switched to Position hold it took off straight up in the air then picked a direction and flew off in to the horizon. I lost complete control couldn't get it to cooperate. Moment it started going up I was like up no and held down on the throttle, went back to Altitude hold, switched to sport mode... nothing worked... I cried... Was thinking of breaking down and getting a spark but I may hold out and spend a few more bucks for this thing.
Thanks for this video. Nice review of this probably great drone. Like to see more footage and tests of this one. It's nice to see something else then only Mavic-Air reviews.
I wanted to call it a good alternative, but the camera tested at only 6.5 stop dynamic range. and was not blown away with it not being mac compatible, that said, PC users should not need to care about that detail. :-)
From Troy Naquin Customer Experience GDU: This is not an official review and not a production version of O2. O2 has not been released and the units sent to press and reviewers from GDU will not ship until I personally ship them.
Nice video. I was looking for a review about this quad for a long time. If I look closely I see a bit shaky footage. Is that true or are my eyes fooling me?
I'm not certain if that was caused by the drone, by my not installing the gimbal update, or if it was caused by my video editor. Anyways I just did another flight with the gimbal update installed. Will be posting the review later this week. You'll be able to compare to see if the issue might still be there.
Excellent drone and review! A real good alternative to the DJI products that are getting proprietary with the cellphones and updates. Thanks for a good review!
Image quality looks good. Wish it had rear obstacle avoidance like the Air. Beware.... Amazon Sellers are already significantly over pricing this drone. Probably drop shipping from the same website Q101 is using
None of the above. I know I'm going to get comments from the Peanut Gallery, but It could be a very costly mistake for a beginner to learn to fly with such. I still recommend learning the basics of flight first with a cheap toy quadcopter. I always recommend the Syma X5C for new fliers, due to its excellent stability, durability, and ease of flying. And it even has a camera too. Use it to learn the basics of flight with. Let this cheap quadcopter take the inevitable crashes and bangs of a beginner flier. And if you break it, every part on it is cheap, widely available, and easily replaceable. Later as your flying skills improve and you're not crashing as much, then consider something better/more expensive. ruclips.net/video/y93vzA-KRlM/видео.html
I like to suggest the Visuo for new flyers. The auto take off and land with the altitude hold make it great for first timers. Plus it is rather durable. At least mine has taken a beating and survived. Plus it is foldable which makes it kinda cool. About the same price range as a Syma X5C around $40.
Quadcopter 101 thanks a lot. The only issue is that, in India it’s hard to get Visuo. As drones are illegal without license and there is alot of issue in import. Only Dji and mi are available through grey Market.
Hey quad copter 101 dude can you do a video about your hat cam maybe some options on action cams versus FPV cams and ways to mount it on a hat like yours - looking for something extremely high-quality low-price small light easy to mount on a hat like yours. I remember you mentioning in one of your videos that you forgot to turn on your hat cam something like that and you didn’t get the footage - so possibly having a watchband remote to turn recording on and off would be cool here’s a possible example - OnReal 4K action cam Do what you do best Sir!I look forward to watching! B
Not really anything special. It's just a cheap 4 year old standard Mobius camera velcro'ed to a little cardboard platform I glued to the bill of my cap. Over 1100 videos produced with this setup ;-) amzn.to/2DSdvho
Once again, excellent tutorial of this nice quad. Alot of features built in. Very compact but stable flight. Thanks for the link to source it out. I will see how much in Canadian dollars. Cheers.
The video is pretty good but I noticed some frame skipping and a bit of vibration which is too bad when you consider the price of this drone. I would have to pass on this one.
Awesome review; thanks so much for this one. I'll be watching this one closely; unfortunately I sprung for a Mavic Air which should arrive by Tuesday otherwise I'd probably have sprung for this one. Between DJIs' aggressive NFZ impositions and arbitrary mandatory firmware updates I think that this'll be my last purchase from them unless things change. Currently am watching Autel with the Evo and that Halo is an interesting device too from a dedicated "follow me" videography standpoint. Looking forward to seeing more about this GDU product; thanks!
If you like DJI quads (I do, and own a P4), you want small companies to come up with smart options. This forces the market to work harder and innovate to keep our business. I love seeing decent quads like this coming out of no-name companies. If they can sell enough units to keep them in the market, they will keep developing and shooting to grab some of DJI's HUGE market share. Then DJI will have to sharpen their pencils and give us better features at lower prices to stay competitive. This is why I don't dismiss quads like this. They got a lot of things right with this model (check out Quadcopter 101's next review of this quad to see just how much they got right). Good for them, and if they can make a living and keep developing, good for US, too.
Fair point, and I can't disagree. If they are smart, they will cut their price point and look for someone to help them out with some short-term funding so they can keep innovating and try to become a long-term player.
Got one of these 3 weeks ago from Geekbuyers.com and the battery was dead they have not answered my emails and GDU does not have extra batteries for sale so my GDU 02 is just a paper weight!!
Gee, what could be between the Spark and the Mavic... if we only knew... This would have been a more genuine review if you had gone head to head with the Air.
But with your DJI you are limited to fly in parking lots, your backyard, corn fields, soy fields, schools . Those NFZ restrictions are getting out of control.
Seems everybody think other brands should always sell their products lower than DJI drone, please, GDU is a military quality grade company in China. their quality stand is more strict than any other brands.
It has been another planet, many time. i.pinimg.com/originals/5b/bc/36/5bbc36b94e1fc42c08ffb1d70f902e6a.jpg science4grownups.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/land-of-the-lost-trona.jpg s3.amazonaws.com/gs-waymarking-images/6820dffa-ac6a-483e-8c96-cec76892cf5f_d.jpg

There are a couple items concerning this controller that can trip you up. First item is that there are several buttons that look like they may be on off switches. Looked like a great drone until you find the price is almost as much as the new Mavic Air...
That sucks i wish it was cheaper
I wanted to see someone post a video on this drone and finally it’s here. Thanks for the review on this. Pretty cool drone.

11:32 Lol they honestly decided to call the compass a "magnetometer". I mean, it is technically correct, but still... it's just a compass...
Looks great, price is high but for the features is good, btw did you check that when you tried to select circle me you actually selected follow me, that's why it didn't circle around you, just a note because I didn't see the note you usually make in this situations

I have already contacted Banggood and also GDU, unfortunately so far I have not found any solution to my problem.

Any plans to review the Autel Evo when it comes out?
Yes, please! QC 101!!

Thank you for this review! I've been dying for info in this drone since it was announced. Can't wait to get one in my hands for a test run.
Hi,
Another great review of an extremely interesting product.
I noticed that when you tried to do circle mode you selected follow me by mistake and this is probably why it didn't work.
I was wondering though, can you pre-plan waypoint missions in a manner similar to the Litchi app with a DJI Phantom?
Many thanks,
Paul :)
Yep. I just did a waypoint flight review today with it. Will be releasing its review later this week.
But can you plan the waypoint mission before you get to the site and save it on the app for future use, like you can with Litchi?
No. you have to be connected to the drone to upload and save the route to the drone.
Alguém sabe me dizer onde consigo comprar uma bateria reserva, mas que entregue no Brasil???
Doe sit use radio instead of wifi?
This uses radio to control the drone, and WiFi to view the in flight video.
I wanted to call it a good alternative, but the camera tested at only 6.5 stop dynamic range. and was not blown away with it not being mac compatible, that said, PC users should not need to care about that detail. :-)

Does it have NFZ restrictions?
No it does not.
Excellent drone and review! A real good alternative to the DJI products that are getting proprietary with the cellphones
and updates. Thanks for a good review!
It's the final version ?
Yes it is. It's also in stock at geekbuying.
Not really, there are 3 versions, the 02, the 02Plus and the 02X.
The latter 2 should be out later this year.
Image quality looks good. Wish it had rear obstacle avoidance like the Air.
Beware.... Amazon Sellers are already significantly over pricing this drone. Probably drop shipping from the same website Q101 is using
Please suggest which is best first time user drone... Spark, mevric or mi 4K
Visuo is also good, especially if you plan to transition to camera drones (not racers).
Quadcopter 101 thanks a lot. The only issue is that, in India it’s hard to get Visuo. As drones are illegal without license and there is alot of issue in import. Only Dji and mi are available through grey Market.
QC 101 DJI already beat them at this game. They placed the Mavic Air in that niche.
Hey quad copter 101 dude can you do a video about your hat cam maybe some options on action cams versus FPV cams and ways to mount it on a hat like yours - looking for something extremely high-quality low-price small light easy to mount on a hat like yours.
I remember you mentioning in one of your videos that you forgot to turn on your hat cam something like that and you didn’t get the footage - so possibly having a watchband remote to turn recording on and off would be cool here’s a possible example
- OnReal 4K action cam
Do what you do best Sir!I look forward to watching!

Not really anything special. It's just a cheap 4 year old standard Mobius camera velcro'ed to a little cardboard platform I glued to the bill of my cap. Over 1100 videos produced with this setup ;-) amzn.to/2DSdvho
I've tried many other cameras, but to this day I haven't found one that matches image, color, and sound quality of my old Mobius.
Once again, excellent tutorial of this nice quad. Alot of features built in. Very compact but stable flight. Thanks for the link to source it out. I will see how much in Canadian dollars. Cheers.
4k and 11gb? no SD
great video quadcopter 101. what is your real name? or do you not say.
Great review! Well done - this guy looks great!
The video is pretty good but I noticed some frame skipping and a bit of vibration which is too bad when you consider the price of this drone. I would have to pass on this one.
Thanks for that great review friend!
Thumbs up to you man! Keep it up!!!
Same price as Mavic air , I think DJI wins.
alfredo i DEFINITELY AGREEE
The GDU 02 needs a price advantage to compete. I think this drone is great but " helping out the little guy " is no reason to buy it.
Fair point, and I can't disagree. If they are smart, they will cut their price point and look for someone to help them out with some short-term funding so they can keep innovating and try to become a long-term player.
Yup. Like it or h8 it, sooner or later, DJI always wins.
hey man where is there,,the Moon?
No, it's the Planet of the Apes i.pinimg.com/originals/5b/bc/36/5bbc36b94e1fc42c08ffb1d70f902e6a.jpg
Amazing location ! neat drone review 👌
Got one of these 3 weeks ago from Geekbuyers.com and the battery was dead they have not answered my emails and GDU does not have extra batteries for sale so my GDU 02 is just a paper weight!!
Try their aftersales at support_aftersale@geekbuying.com
Gee, what could be between the Spark and the Mavic... if we only knew... This would have been a more genuine review if you had gone head to head with the Air.
Thanx again for the info. Great review ,definitely dig that shirt as well!
Actually you selected follow me instead of vision circle
Dji is banned for US Army Personnel so this is a good option and will do well
Good informative review video 👍
Wow this guy look cool, that video is amazing. loving the landscape!
Saw that at the ces convention
"I don't want to run it until the battery dies" Why not? Demonstrate the low batt RTH
Hmm...for about the same price, I would think that the Mavic air is a better choice.
But with your DJI you are limited to fly in parking lots, your backyard, corn fields, soy fields, schools . Those NFZ restrictions are getting out of control.
cant buy from india.
Seems everybody think other brands should always sell their products lower than DJI drone, please, GDU is a military quality grade company in China. their quality stand is more strict than any other brands.
the area looks like youre on another Planet XD i love it ^^ and i also like this drone.. :D
It has been another planet, many time. i.pinimg.com/originals/5b/bc/36/5bbc36b94e1fc42c08ffb1d70f902e6a.jpg

wow.great drone. well done gdu. just watch out on the copy right.
Nice bit of kit but really should be at that price. Interesting first flight
good but expensive)
nice presentation sir..hoping to have one😁😁
there's some noticeable jello effect in dronie mode
Very nice review. That thing is noisy though.
i like your shirt.. i think this is first hand on review with gdu 02.. nice quad, small even more compact than m air with stack controller.. design new not copy other quad.. sliding arm.. let see if this will get populer compare to m air and evo
Circle Me. You actually choose Follow Me from the menu, so it followed you instead. Nice drone.
ilan kaya ako dito sa coommet

I would put it above the spark but not quite as good as the air, but very nice none the less. Great review. Thanks. :-)
I think it looks like the moon when you are just looking at the ground flying around.
Love the new quad
Lol i think you didn't select vision circle it changed back to follow me
flight time is very bad x 13 min.
Rogeralcon it only handles 12 mph winds. It was probably some gusts out there. Pretty sure that’s what reduced its battery life
RUclips supports 4k video. Moving on to a 4k review...
nice... actually a sound drone it looks like.
