Could your stomach handle sailing conditions like this!?🌊⛵️🌏
I don't think there is a human on Earth (except possibly a crazy frenchman or a drunk kiwi) who would not get seasick at some point in conditions like this. Personally, I "don't get seasick" but I know that really means I am just more resilient to it than others and in my 15k offshore miles, I haven't encountered the right conditions yet. I'm sure the Southern Ocean could provide them 😅
Perhaps one day Francis George The Busy! ⛵️🌏
Not for longer than 10 minutes! Awesome compilation, ocean racing always looks so appealing from my living room!
Glad to hear you enjoy it findbluesky!💪🏼⛵️🌏
Yes.
I have some friends that think sailing is a retired old person's game like golf. Then I take them out on my sailboat in 20 knot winds and they have to change their underwear. But this video is on a completely different level. Absolutely awesome! Some of the best footage I've seen.
Some people also think it's expensive while i pay 50 € per year
4:07 is easily the coolest shot in this video. seeing them surf the wave from that angle is incredible
I'm a sailor....this is some of the best high speed sailing footage I've ever seen!....absolutely freaking awesome!.........send the link to all your Yachtie friends....I want to see more of this every day........
I dare football players and F1 champions to experience just a day (and a dark night!) racing on a VOR. The’ll give back their money to the sponsors!
It’s scary, it’s cold, it’s dangerous, you are “nothing” against all. No matters who win the competition. Everyone is a hero there!
lucderan You must have gone on one of the competitions and which one
Such wet boats, it's relentless
Most exciting ocean race I've seen its magnificent how the boat becomes part of the rough sea and sailors.
1:00 without a doubt my favorite shot! the surfing on the waves is just magnificent, as if the ocean is leading them while the waves arent calm at all.
Mmmmm. God I love sailboat racing! Raced since I was 13. I fear the ocean.
Geniusly! I love Yachting, I love The Ocean Race!
Who in their right minds would endure that?
Warriors of the waves.
Can't wait! I'll just sleep for a year and then wake up for the race.
Wish we could do the same! So much to do lol⛵️🌏
Amazing engineering.
We think so too Eric Haskell! ⛵️🌏
That looks like a hell of a lot of fun!
i filmed most of these shots from my sunfish... i was following them.
😂😂😂😂 we'd like to see you try...! Well actually, that would be a bad idea😋⛵️🌏
Sunfish? I passed u on my Laser.
You were not! Unless they towed you.
No kite surfers out there?
😂😂😂 no way, those waves would *destroy* a sunfish 😂
What’s that old saying? A man that goes to sea for pleasure would go to the devil for a pass time.
Noice! I wouldn't wanna be below deck during that. "Get the bucket!"
Totally understand able Devzer0! Neither would I!⛵️🌏
Let's go Sailing!!!
I've sailed in some rough weather but nothing like this wow epic footage 👍🇨🇦
Fantastic compilation !
I've done quite a few ocean crossings but nothing prepares you for this. I really hope to do this someday.
Deck rinsing the easy way.
You got that right! ⛵️🌏
Lol
Guys and gals that is insane weather RESPECT
What an epic adventure that would be!
Not for the faint of hearted Bert! ⛵️🌏
This might be fun for a hour but to do it day in day out, mmmmm no thanks. Kudos guys.
Awesome! Would have liked to have seen the full broach though!
It's going to be epic. Go Viva México!!!!
OMG!!! its beautiful
The ultimate adventure!
We totally agree!⛵️🌏
At least they have companion... I never forget the "French helicopter" footage of Thomson with a broken foil at the VG 2016, the boat heeling like I never saw an IMOCA boat heel, and alex bopping around the deck as if he was on a cruising yacht.
Best commute ever
Hoch am Wind und schneller als die Wellen. Danke, für das Video. Nix für mich.
I think just watching this video would cure dehydration.
Zoe Paula Strassfield salt
At 4:02 is the very pretty blue water at the top edge of the wave. Only time I've ever seen that is when I was ocean sailing as well (pacific ocean). It's extremely beautiful when you see it in person, but even that video does it well.
Ocean power ! :)
Muito vibrante, lindo. Adoro navegação
Fantastic !
AMAZING!
Right!?😉⛵️🌏
That hull design is insane.
Impressive!!!
Wowww!
Unbelievable what a heroes
5 minutes in the washing machine! 😄👍
I want to do this. Some place warm. Like a nice enclosed bay just minutes from shore 😂
That sounds more like glamping on a boat ncsteeltoe!⛺️ ⛵️🌏
@@TheOceanRace Yes! 😁 Some brave souls out there.
Ah, so you want to do an in-shore race! I think Itajai is pretty warm.
Exactly!
Engage warp 9 Mr. Zulu at 3:04 :- O
Wow.
I am an old man, and this would kill me now, but it makes me wish I had spent my life differently.
Is this a sail boat or a submarine with a screen door?
Lifebelts ftw
Damn that boats hauling ass
wow
luar biasa
Would love to part of this race 🤠
Top level content and also who ever put this together knows their shit.
I would guess this is the investment of OBR's starting to pay off.
Keep producing content like this and the views will come
Thanks Bob Bob! Much more to come!💪🏼⛵️🌏
I love sailing in high wind... the North Sea is boiling when I go out!
Man that was a nasty jybe at 02:50 nearly broached or did it capsize?
What went wrong at 2:48 ? any ideas? sudden wind change? some issue with foresail?
Looked like a very unfortunate nose dive that caused the boat to head to starboard. As soon as she's gybed through the wind it was game over and the leeward heel causes the boat to head up. The foresails were then set for the wrong tack, causing the sails to 'back' and cause more heel.
Also, the canting keel was still on the opposite side, so it was preventing the boat from righting itself
@@spencerh1803 that is something I didn't think about! I'm not familiar with keel boats.
"I need Spain "I agree I do too
They should rename this sport Spay sailing
Trust the boat, and hang on for dear life it will be one WILD RIDE!
How i wish
Challenge Poseidon
3:03 Jesus
Are all those guys tied in so they can't go overboard?
I hate being keeled over.. But that?Crying at the docks just thinking about it
All fun and games until one of those 15 foot waves decides to go super saiyan and turns into a 100 foot rogue wave...
INSANE!
Not for the feint of heart... Be cool to have a gimbal on some of those camera shots.
They say water is a terrible lubricant, but that doesn't matter when you re-apply every couple of seconds.
why won't they just stay at home until weather conditions will improve?
If the race is scheduled for that day then its scheduled for that day. If there was a major storm or Hurricane is might be postponed but the conditions shown in the video while scary are not enough to stop the race.
That's what you get with inverted bows.
The the name should be frog watertight behind
Amazing footage but Y design a boat that proactively tries to destroy its crew....don't get it.
yoinkers
is it possible to use a toilet and sleep in such a conditions?
When its calm yeah, when not it can be a problem.
Curious why they don't just add more mass to the keel bulb. 1816 more kg would only result in the boat sitting about 2cm lower in the water, but the additional over-heeling insurance would be worth it, would it not?
Imagine that 1816kg (4000 pounds) as a lever to prevent the boat going over too far. that is a lot of leverage, especially on a deep centerboard they seem to use.
Also, imagine how much more power they could extract from the wind if they could rely on that much extra mass.
I know the centerboard would have to be heavier to hold that mass up, but what of it? How about 3000 extra kg? It's only about 166L of extra lead that can be extremely streamlined under the water.
3000 kilos of mass can REALLY help a sailboat stay upright. IN FACT, to balance that out, couldn't they have outrigger pontoons that ONLY go underwater when the boat heels to the other side?
A 3000L pontoon could provide enough flotation only when heeled to cancel the mass of the 3000kilos of lead, while simultaneously adding leverage to lift the boat and keep it out of the water, and fully-submerged streamlined masses are far lower in their drag than boat hulls that have to deal with surface physics.
With the boat having an extra 3000kg in the keel and an extra 3000kg of buoyancy in a pontoon, that would provide, given a 5m-tall centerboard and 30 degree list with a static centerboard, 8660 kg-m of extra torque to counteract any wind. This amount increases with the angle of heel, peaking at 15,000kg of torque supposing they got the boat laying flat on its side. 15,000 kg-m of torque should easily be able to right the boat OR prevent it's falling over in the first place.
That is the equivalent of 1000kg of force applied against gravity 15m up the mast. I don't even know if the M5 could stay laid over on its side with 1000kg of force 15m up the masts.
The extra power one could extract from the wind under all conditions, coupled with the extra stability of the boat could more than make up for any drag induced.
I am well familiar with the fact that the wings they use push up on the side of the boat with dynamic lift, but static lift and weight would provide stability under all circumstances, even the most extreme, especially the most extreme.
The wing shapes of the daggerboards which work to provide counter-torque to the sails does not come free, but with a drag penalty, also.
I do not think the rules allow pontoons, however, but I can see their value in a dynamic sailing situation.
These only weigh 12,500kg, so the amount of sheer torque provided by the extra mass and flotation would cause them to need a truly super-sturdy set of rigging, sails, and mast. But, oh, the speed they could achieve. They may consider going with a hull shape that is substantially more of a fine entry to minimize violent wave slap as they sailed, which killed one America's Cup yacht. They may have to go with an even more-cylindrical front section of the boat.
I understand that the extra mass causes extra drag through the water, at the most important place, the surface, but if said extra mass was offset by a pontoon would it really matter?
Also, the deck area needs to be far more streamlined. Any water you accelerate to boat speed by the very non-fluid-dynamically-efficient deck area and unguarded personnel is water that is slowing you down. The helmsman needs a fairing to help the water slide gracefully past him and off the deck; he doesn't need to be a parachute or sea anchor for tons of water coming over the cabin.
Very lengthy analysis! On the face of it you are mostly correct but race class regulations and increased inertia are the reasons why your otherwise valid points do not cut it in the design. Most teams will always elect lighter keel bulbs on longer keel fins rather than the opposite to minimize craft inertia which is a huge no-go for any racing application.
Unfortunately I don't really appreciate the music ...
YA Ho.....
WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS TO THEMSELVES????????
LOL CUZ WE LOVE IT!
@@totemthepole love your name! Sailed for over 20 years with family and friends . Met tons of great people but I'm definitely a fair weather sailor! Really enjoy watching these crazy sailors though.
Believe or not that Big Waved had been made by Muhammad Ali God ( WBA ) .
Boys on pretty sail boats, the Square Rigging Sailing Ships, these sailors would not have been able to. Good wishes. # HeroesAtSea.
Boys trying to be Tough a good Title.

AAAAAAAAAхуеть!!!
These wave piercer bugs are....shit
anyone for a cold shower ?
Biggest Waves?? Where??... just Speed and spray..
Remove the musiz please
Ever thought of putting up a video without stupid music? Without any music at all? So you can hear the waves and come a bit closer to the experience. I have sailed these conditions many tines and I can tell you that this music is inappropriate.
Tbh it’s not just this channel, it’s a common mistake made by non-sailing video producers and also by sailing ones who don’t have courage to believe that people might just like sailing
Could"nt pay me enough !
