  • @SatoshiMatrix1

    I'm a nerd who likes consistency when it comes to game naming.
    One thing that bothers the shit out of me is when reboots and sequels use the same name as the original game, like what just happened with Doom and apparently what's going to happen with God of War. Subtitles motherfuckers. Use them.
    Also hate when game series switch from numbered entries to all of a sudden no more numbers. Call of Duty World at War? Shouldn't that be Call of Duty 5: World at War? Ugh.

    • @tbb033
      @tbb033 8 лет назад +1

      At least there's, as far as I know, no game equivalent to the mess that is the Rambo naming system. The sequel to Rambo 3 is just Rambo? The original movie is First Blood, with no mention of the name Rambo in the title at all?

    • @SatoshiMatrix1
      @SatoshiMatrix1 8 лет назад +2

      I present to you the mess that is the Seiken Densetsu series.
      Not counting spin offs, we've got:
      Final Fantasy Adventure
      Secret of Mana
      Seiken Densetsu 3
      Dawn of Mana
      ...Not to mention the namings of just the first game alone: Final Fantsy Adventure, Sword of Mana and now Adventures of Mana. All of which are actually Seiken Densetsu 1.
      Of course, in the western world in the early 90s, RPGs were a niche genre, so naming RPGs "Final Fantasy" was a marketing ploy to associate one game with another in the genre, even if it was totally unrelated, as was the case with all of the SaGa games. Later when Seiken Densetsu 2 was localized as Secret of Mana, I guess that localization term stuck, for the most part anyway.
      Still just wish the series was called Seiken Densetsu in the west though. Would have solved a lot of confusion.

    I'm definitely going to have to try all of those! I own most of them but never played them (sometimes I get games at pawn shops for $1-3 a piece, so I save them for a rainy day) One of my favorite reboots is Sid Meier's Pirates when it was released in the mid 2000's for PC/Xbox/Wii. It refined a lot of the gameplay aspects as well as the visuals. I definitely recommend checking it out!

    You should really check out DMC4. In terms of gameplay it's the best in the series. DmC overall removes way too many features and mechanics and has far lower difficulty than 1, 3 and 4, but I can understand if that doesn't matter if you haven't gone that deep into 3 and 4.

    • @GameSack
      @GameSack  8 лет назад +8

      Higher difficulty doesn't necessarily mean better gameplay.

    • @getterchrist1041
      @getterchrist1041 8 лет назад +12

      They way a lot of fans look at it, it removed difficulty and gameplay features, such as Styles, Style Switching, Switch Canceling, and just a lot of the advanced techinques DMC had. DMC has a very large fanbase that gets incredibly techincal with the games, that DmC sadly doesnt have, since its a very simple game.

      Oh god, now that's a terrible port... long loading times after every restart or death (higher rankings require "some" restarts), the FPS fluctuates like a yo-yo going up and down and tearing everywhere. That single 1.01 update did not fix anything, just added an HDD install option which only improved the loading times by a marginal amount. PlatinumGames has admitted that they made a mistake when they let Sega handle the PS3 port (which was not even planned until the very end of development).

      ***** well, they never ever mention PC versions of the titles they feature. Even more, praising the graphics of some of the reboots and showing the inferior console versions doesn't make much sense (as in Tomb Raider and Devil May Cry). And buying an Xbox One to play Rise of the Tomb Raider because it's exclusive? Guess what? It's not, there is a PC version. By the way, Prince of Persia Sands of Time happens to be a free download right now from Ubisoft, on PC. Worth mentioning...

    Does Metroid Prime count as a reboot? It's completely different and the story doesn't seem to follow. If so, then those are great reboots.
    Splatterhouse is a great reboot of the series too. It's pretty buggy and not perfect, but it's just enjoyable ultra violence. Like the originals.

      few things going against that:
      1. it really hadn't been that long since Super Metroid - that came out near the end of the SNES life cycle and Metroid just skipped the N64
      2. Prime couldn't be a lone reboot no matter what since Fusion was co-released with it - and technically, Fusion is the real reboot, if you can even call it that, since it's 2d and even calls itself 'Metroid 4' as the sequel to Super Metroid
      3. Prime is basically Super Metroid done in 3d - just compare the basic stories - it doesn't help that a whole section of Prime uses the same music as Super either

    On the other hand there is Tomb Raider. Game is NOTHING like original, only main character kinda look alike, and people are fine with it... WTF?...

    • @MrJechgo
      @MrJechgo 8 лет назад +5

      Opinions, that's it really... Dante in the reboot isn't as likeable as the original. However, the new Lara came as a vulnerable woman, which is what they were aiming for. The new Dante isn't how he became the original Dante, they just scraped his personality and gave him a new one... that didn't fit well with fans.

    • @szymps
      @szymps 8 лет назад

      +MrJechgo Does new Lara personality have anything to do with original? Besides i like new Dante as much as classic Dante. And if someone play games for 'personality of main character', they should double check the medium they are after.

    • @MrJechgo
      @MrJechgo 8 лет назад

      Nehes No, Lara doesn't have the same personality of the headstrong and rather "pompous" classic Lara. The thing is that the devs went for an origin story where Lara started as a very fragile woman and THEN became strong in the end. We technically never saw classic Lara in her debuts as an explorer; she was already experienced. However, making an origin story makes total sense since, well, it is how Lara became an explorer, but the twist is that she didn't plan on that in the first place. Beside, maning Lara vulnerable doesn't come out as alientating as making the new Dante a total jerk, where his personality and look completely clash with the classic one. While it might not be a 100% legit point to ditch a game, players can toss a game aside if they just don't like who they are playing as.
      I haven't played Rise of the Tomb Raider, but from what I've heard, Lara whines a lot LESS in the sequel :P

    • @szymps
      @szymps 8 лет назад

      +MrJechgo Actualy we saw young Lara in TR The Last Revelation.
      You said that we were supouse to see fragile Lara changing and getting stronger, that is why she is so much different at the begginnig, but the same thing is with Dante. He is selfish jerk at the begginnig, but later he lern. I dont know, but for me difference betwean Laras are much bigger and alienating than Dantes.
      Anyway i dont play games for personalities but for gameplay. Thats the core of a game. Now compare Tomb Raider gameplay to reboot and DMC. Compare fighting mechanics, level construction, weapons, etc. You see my point? If i want story and character development i watch a movie, read book, comic etc.

    • @MrJechgo
      @MrJechgo 8 лет назад

      Nehes Totally see your point. However, the lore itself can be considered by players as important as the gameplay itself.

    DMC is not even close to have an better gameplay than Devil May Cry 3. Its more like an "Devil May Cry for dummies". And of course, it's hard to get over that douchebag murica Donte that the producer made based on himself. One of the worst and more anoying charaters ever. The original one was so cool...and they have to destroy everything with this brodude Donte.

    1. You didn't mention that Prince of Persia was actually rebooted again in 2008.
    2. It's a bit misleading to say that Devil May Cry "inspired" Bayonetta, when they were both directed by the same person: Hideki Kamiya.
    3. Bayonetta was also released on the PS3 and (later) the Wii U. 4. American pronunciation of the name Lara (and even Laura) varies by region. 5. You mean to say "polygonal", not "polygon".

      There was a lot to love about PoP'08. The world, atmosphere, and characterizations were enjoyable to me. Combat was annoying but had some depth. I think what got me, was the lack of consequence. The idea that I couldn't die and the princess would always rescue me was cute, but made it feel like I was perpetual easy mode :( As for everything else in the original post, seems a bit nit-picky. GameSack are known for not doing a lot of research, and I wouldn't expect them to. They're informative and entertaining, but they're not doing a documentary on their subjects

    As a fan Devil May Cry I fucking Hate DmC everything is awful(the story is a guy version of Twilight) am so happy it Bombed so there will never be a sequel & Ninja Theory (who real dicks 2 the fans btw) are 1 game away from going broke :D sorry Joe but that game brings the worst out of me every time I see it :P.

    • @GameSack
      @GameSack  8 лет назад +1

      I think perhaps you're getting a little too emotional there. I don't think it bombed otherwise they wouldn't have bothered with a PS4 version. It's a well-playing game and I think people only really hate because of fanboy reasons. I can understand that (it's not true to devil May Cry, etc). But as a game it's good, especially for someone like me who has no real attachment to the originals since I never really played them (yet). Getting the HD versions, though.

      The 360/PS3 versions of the game had some other bad issues like running at 30 fps and having quite unresponsible controls due that and the game media and developers themselves acting like complete assholes, at a point the developer made this keynote thing where they compared the original dante to Brokeback Mountain.
      I would say the PS4 version is most likely tweaked the hell and back after the audience slapped the shit out of the developer.

    DMC is watered down absolute trash compared to the originals. I expected better from you Game Sack. Ninja Theory were assholes to original fans all through development, the new Dante is a twat bait douche canoe (the mop scene is openly insulting to the old guard), the story is pretentious "lolsodeep" tripe that shits all over the classic memorable characters, the music is a trendy wub fest, the gameplay is watered down and completely lacking in depth, the legendary difficulty that the series is known for is nowhere to be found, Gods Must Die doesn't hold a candle to the true Devil May Cry on its MEDIUM settings. They had to release a definitive edition to even come anywhere to close to the level of depth offered by DMC 3 and 4. Did I mention that the original release didn't even have a lock on? You know, a very basic mechanic in most all 3D games that was essential for certain inputs in the true Devil May Cry. Truly disgusting.

    Also, the Dagger of Time is extremely limited to about 5 seconds a tank. Even if you don't use all 5 seconds, it still consumes a full tank. 5 X 4 is 20, so if you died later then 20 seconds ago, the game is over and you have to restart from a last checkpoint.
