This theme music always made me cry as a little girl, it’s such a sweet piece of music and haunting too, 44 now and it still evokes something in me now.
It made me cry as a little girl too... I remember when I was 9 it came on one afternoon (by then I think it was repeats) and my little brother Seth (who was 4, and the kindest little boy you'd ever meet) came up and put his arm round me and asked "oakey Beth?" - yes, we had rhyming names 😂 and he used to say "oakey" instead of "OK" - a very fond childhood memory... Unfortunately, in 1992 when I was 14, Seth - who had a lot of health issues from birth - sadly died at age 9 from Reye's Syndrome... Hearing this theme music again all these years later evokes something in me now too, at age 45...
The most memorable kids TV program from the 80s. The opening and closing theme was burnt into my soul, It still shines bright hearing it after 41 years. :D

This theme music makes me emotional and a bit sad too. I’m really sorry about your brother. He must have been a very special person to have truly had that effect on you. What you’re saying reminds of one of my friends at university. He was the kindest and most welcoming person I ever knew and he really looked out for me. He sadly passed away nearly two years ago of major health issues and it destroyed me. Last year though, his girlfriend came to visit me and although we cried together about our loss, we both celebrated his life and she got to know him through me and our experiences in college together. Bless You.
Oh my good god..........this brings back so many memories. I can remember coming home from school on cold dark winter afternoons and falling asleep in front of the fire to this theme tune. Music is a time machine and this definitely took me way back.....thank you
Everytime I listen to this theme song, it brings me back memories I never had. I am an old soul. It has this eerie feeling to it, but it also has this sweet, elegant feeling.
@@Eepop_stuffs It was first broadcast in the U.K. in 1983, Series 2 was 1985 by ITV which was then a regional network by their Midlands franchise, Central ( formerly known as ATV ) in association with Polski films. Europe got it in the late 70’s, we got in the early to mid 1980’s.
My first memory of telly was looking at this on an old box TV. I was only gone 3 years of age, I remember it made me ball my eye's out crying. Thanks uploader!!
Nothing will convince me otherwise that theme tunes for kids TV back in the day had much more heart and effort put in to making them. So many classics - Dogtanian, Willy Fog, Cities of Gold, Ulysses, Raggy Dolls, Pink Panther Show and many others (not forgetting this one of course).
You are so very spot on with that comment!!! He-Man, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Battle of the Planets, The Smurfs, Transformers, GoBots, Droids, Mask, Visionaries, Dungeons and Dragons, Defenders of the Earth, SuperTed, Banana Man,

Very nice. I've heard about The Moomins, a 1977 Polish-Austrian-German children's television programme all right. It is based on the Tove Jansson's Moomin series of books which was produced by Se-ma-for and Jupiter Film between 1977 and 1982 for Polish, Austrian and German television. The series was later sold to other countries including the UK. The British version was adapted by Anne Wood at FilmFair and broadcast in the UK. Series 1 was first shown on Monday 24 January 1983 at 4:15 pm and series 2 on Monday 7 January 1985 at 4.15pm on Children's ITV, and series 2 was repeated in 1986. The series was last repeated in its entirety in 1988. It was narrated by British actor Richard Murdoch. Wish I watched it as a kid.
Wow, thank you so much for the info. The funny thing is I turned 18 in December '82 and was long since past kids tv but I loved The Moomins, and it was without doubt the theme tune that dragged me in, absolutely adored it, and such a charming wee programme as well.
As a nine-year-old watching children's television in England in the dark afternoons of early 1983, I distinctly remember being entirely seduced by this theme tune, and the ensuing stop motion animations being dark and sad and beautiful. I also remember realizing that I was now too old to be able to give myself up to the fantasy world of _The Moomins_ and enjoy it as a child, no matter how much I wanted to, and feeling very depressed wondering what I was going to do instead of watching children's television now that its magic was entirely lost on me forever. What I didn't realize back then that I was yet too young to be able to recognize the beautiful mind of _The Moomins'_ creator, Tove Jansson. She just hurt me so good. Like remembering after 30 years a girl you met once in childhood and immediately fell in love with, then never saw again.
As a child in the 80s, I remember this theme making me sob and never understanding why. Its only now you realise how melancholy and dark this theme was. 😍😍
My family has moomins on DVD. Me and my brother were watching it in German (the dvd is German but there an English dub setting) and my mum walked on and was like "oh, I love music in this." We then discovered the German version has different music
I was 10 in 1977, I remember liking the theme tune.... 4 years later China Crisis released Christian, it had the same magical effect on me,.... and one song that stays with me year in, year out. Go give it a listen and see what you think...........
You only get one go at life... no point spending it being miserable! Thats a waste, and to be honest theres so many people desperate to get a chance to continue life and are denied it. No sympathy I'm afraid.
Sends shivers down my spine remembering a very happy childhood. Adult life sucks
I hear you! Makes me feel the same way 😊
I feel the same way.
Everything was so much simpler... fully agree
Could not agree more!
I still randomly whistle this tune. I’m 43 and it’s still in my head.
Me too. 😍
Hehe so do I at the ripe old age of 48
Ditto!
Wow a blast from the past. Not heard that eery music since the 1980s. Children’s ITV on a Monday before He-Man
Same here. Happy days. (And now I’ve started singing the Happy Days theme tune!)
This theme music always made me cry as a little girl, it’s such a sweet piece of music and haunting too, 44 now and it still evokes something in me now.

It's a very melancholic tune even at the best of times (which I can remember thinking even when I was 12 or so), so must be exceptionally so for you.
This theme music makes me emotional and a bit sad too. I’m really sorry about your brother. He must have been a very special person to have truly had that effect on you.

Always something a bit melancholy about this theme.
Got the same effect on me as the Telebugs outro theme (UK 'I have a heart' version).
Wistful, rather than melancholy, I always thought. Like a yearning for the carefree days of childhood.

There's a haunting ethereal beauty in this piece of music.
Damn!! The Moomins!! Used to watch this!! Always loved the theme!! It was different!!
this music is much more true to the moomins of the books than the modern cartoon version.
Used to make me cry as a 10 year old back in '83 this music....
Ha ha me too. I'm sobbing now
This music haunted me as a child. I’m 43 now and still a bit weary of it !! 🤦🏻♂️
I'm now 44 and hearing this tune has unlocked memories from when I was 5 or 6 ❤
Perfect counter Corona, music. Takes me to a happy place.
An excellent piece of music etched into the minds of people from a great era!!
Takes me way back, what a lovely piece of music.
what wonderful tune
This takes me back to a simpler time
Evocative eerie music.
So THIS is why Lemmings music feels familiar!
It was a gorgeous theme tune...I don't remember it from the 70's though...I remember watching it during Children's ITV in 1984
It began in the 70s in Europe but ended in the 80s.
@@Eepop_stuffs i remember it being on itv in the summer of 1982 when italy won the world cup etc

@jane1975 oh, cool! I'll correct my original comment.
how the hell did you find this?..thats brings back memories of me and my big sister watching the moomins together when i was young
Can't explain exactly why but this music made me cry when I was a a kid in the early 80's. I still love it though.
Made me cry as a kid in the 80's too. I'm practically a sobbing mess now.

This reminds me of Fernando by ABBA every time I hear it.
I loved The whimsical Moomins theme tune (probably has a lot to do with the music I like now)
I was just thinking that my love of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci stems from hearing this tune.
I will always hark this theme. Many a time it is replayed in my mind. Memory invoking at best.
Just beautiful
This made me cry, it's so cute
What a memory. A very special piece of music. Takes you back.
This & the Button Moon theme were so magical.

I found myself constantly watching all the episodes on VHS when I was younger. This gives me such intense flashbacks it's insane!
