"Sick" Sentry 16V1T-B, Full Alert: Spurgeon, IN (Pike Co. Tornado Siren Test, HD)

Back in January, during one of the few days it was actually cold, I decided to stay close by and record a siren in Pike County, rather than go far. Pike has a system of mostly new, 16Vs and three 2750s in Petersburg. It's a great system that definitely gets the job done overall, but it seems like their system has been plagued with battery issues lately. This is the second 16V I've encountered with a battery problem. Not to mention Chris and Nick encountered a dying 2750, and earlier this month, the 2750 in the north part of Petersburg did nothing for this February's test. I assume it's a similar issue.
Other than that, there's a few unique things about this particular siren. For starters, this siren is the same one I feature on all my newer intros since around mid 2014. And, unlike the other 16Vs in the system, this one does alert. I have a botched recording from years ago when it did attack, so at one point it was switched. The town of Spurgeon also has a Model 5 that's active, but is not connected to the county's system. I assume the Model 5 does attack for fire calls, and probably not to long after this 16V was installed, some of the firemen were getting confused since both did attack. This probably led to the change in signal.

The only real problems for the siren is it's clogged and it sounds like the motor is dying but I could be wrong about the motor

I don’t know why these have 2 separate chopper motors... that just makes them quieter even if the motors are the slightest bit out of phase. The only reason I can think of is in case one fails but it seems that coverage would be more important that the low chance of a motor failure

Possibility, but it honestly doesn't sound too bad. It's not the worst Sentry I've heard lol.

Honestly I agree! No stuttering, no voltage drops or signs of significant pitch weakness or anything like that.

As someone who worked at a restaurant as a server and helped kitchen prep everyday, I can agree with this very much
How can you tell the 15/16/20V2T apart? They look the same....
You can't go by the ratio because it's possible for the sirens to be configured differently. 15V1T's and 20V1Ts are single tone with an 8/8 ratio, and 16V's can be ordered in dual tone. Blanchard, OK has a 16V2T-B, albeit an older unit that was made before the 16V naming scheme; it says 15V2T-B on the side.
For the 16V they will have a large red battery box on the pole. It's hard to miss it. The 15V and 20V are identical sirens, so the only way to tell those apart would be to look at the stickers on the side of the motor housing. 16V's are taller than the 15V and 20V, however in single phase form they use two motors instead of one and are about the same height.

Sounds like the battery is dying and it's really ready to die.
MIKE CHIESA I don't think it is battery powered. I think that because if it was battery powered no wires would be going into it from power lines. Any wires you see in this siren are maybe the radio cables and the ones from the boxes. And if it was battery powered, if they were in the edge of dying, then the battery would maybe get the chopper spinning a tiny bit. Or if anything at all. That's what I think.

The siren is actually not that old, the batteries are just getting sucked dry due to the cold weather. Also that's snow that you see blowing out.
