Nicolas, years ago when I transferred this wonderful recording from an old LP I own to digital so I could post it on RUclips, I could find nothing online about your grandfather Janos Scholz. The harpsichordist, Egida Sartori, was my harpsichord teacher at the Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello in Venice in 1972-73. Now there is good online information about Janos Scholz and I was surprised and delighted to read that he left his 1731 Stradivarius cello and his collection of over 200 of viola da gamba and cello bows to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, and his vast Scoltz Collection of 700 musical scores to the Jackson Library of the University of North Carolina At Greensboro, only 50 miles from where I live! It is a small world. Your grandfather must have been a truly extraordinary person, and you should be very proud of him. Do you know why he chose the University of North Carolina for his collection of scores?
That is a very interesting story and I am glad to hear about the collections. Thanks for posting these videos. I like playing the Marcello on Trombone and you have helped me find these nice recordings to help me learn the music.
Excellent soul !
My grandfather!!
Nicolas Scholz I hope he passed some of his talent onto his grandchildren:)
