Cricket at its purest form. What a crowd and radio commentary used to be so pulsating and treat for the ears. In the bus, office and local trains 📻 used to be a part with running commentary. Alas, those days have gone, never to return.
My first match. My brother was at I.I.T., Madras and we 2 younger brothers stayed in his hostel room (traveled from Bangalore). We would get up every day at 4:30 AM and be outside the stadium by 5:30 AM. The gates would open between 9.30 - 10 AM, and at the head of the queue, we would get good seats with shades, so that when the afternoon arrived, we could still be covered in shade and enjoy. One day we were late, and we got exposed to the blazing sun. By evening, we were thoroughly sun-burnt, and had to use lotions in the evening!

This probably the only footage available of the great Salim Durani batting. It was his last series and he was still batting well but as you could observe in this video, he had some problems running which hampered his fielding and bowling. He was dropped rather unfairly after this series. Thank you for the rare video
Indeed it was the last series of Salim Durrani. He had some problem with his legs and which affected his game Even then he actuallu ht a 6 on public demand !
A true great - mercurial, magical, magnetic. His bowling especially against left handers could be lethal - it was his quick dismissal of Clive Lloyd and Gary Sobers (who he had much in common with) which set up India's famous victory in Port of Spain, Trinidad, in 1971. The late great Christopher Martin-Jenkins caught a glimpse of Durrani when MCC played Central Zone on the 1976 tour, as he describes in his book of that tour, and was suitably impressed with the albeit fading aura of stardust and glamour which still surrounded him whenever he walked on to a cricket field.
Yes, I have heard stories from the elder generation about how he came in to bat, injured, with one arm in a sling, and hit Pocock for a one handed six at the Eden Gardens...a thrilling match that India won by 27 runs if my memory serves me right. With Bedi going great guns, it was difficult to justify the inclusion of another left arm spinner, and he would have not made it as a batsman alone...he thus had to make way for others

I was a 10 year old. My friend taught me how to bat and other rules of the game. Though ours is a small town cricket was quite popular. Men were glued to their transistors throughout the series. My Dad was jubilant at the series victory and so were my friends and their elders. All that I could understand was that Wadekar beat England twice in a row. Viswanath scored a century. Pataudi came back. From then onwards we became cricket addicts. Cutting news items from news papers and magazines and preserving them, hearing commentary religiously, getting by heart the scores of batsmen and bowling statistics of bowlers, joining either of Viswanath or Gavaskar camps and so on. Innocent era. Golden memories.
The stadium house full for a test match is astonishing.Crowd descent and fantastic and enthusiastic. What a golden era in cricket. Will not get those days again.
I am glad that I had the fortune to watch this test match live when I was 18 years of age. We used to reach the Chepauk stadium by 8.30 am to occupy best seats. I thoroughly enjoyed the batting of Tiger Pataudi and the incomparable Durrani. Also I could watch the bowling action of Bedi, Prasanna and Chandra using binoculars borrowed from fellow spectators. The best moment was after the match when I ran into the ground and got a chance to see Wadekar, Pataudi, Engineer and Gavaskar from close quarters. I had the privilege of shaking hands with Lala Amarnath, Polly Umrigar and C.D. Gopinath. That was a memorable trip to Madras for me.

I was fortunate to watch this match as well as the match between India & Australia (1969). During those days people make tents outside to stay & watch, since the duration is of 6 days inclusive of rest day. Pataudi's late cut & cover drive would be a pleasure to watch as well as Wadejar's square cut. On demand from the crowd Durango hits sixer without any effort. Bedi's flight would be wonderful & during those days Indian cricket relied on spin & the great Sobers considered EAS Prassana as best Off Spinner.
Look at how each and everyone is hooked onto the game. Test cricket is the best cricket. My city knows how to properly enjoy it. Knowledgeable Chennai crowd for the reason! #Madrasnallamadras
excellent to see these three great spinners in this clip. Three totally different challenges for the batsman. I noticed also how close Tony Greig stood to the batsman - could've swatted a fly on his cap! No protection either. Very confident in his own ability.

Straight drive of Pataudi and hook by Wadekar love to watch... BOTH legends gone... Wadekar was lucky captain but still there was no need to remove tiger from captaincy after Australian series in 1969.
Yes wonderful memories. I remember watching one day of this Test match sitting somewhere on the terrace in a cheap seat. I remember the queues that formed at 6AM!!
"After the formalities of a non-existent opening attack" Thanks ED Solkar! India's pace attack consisted of three overs from Messers Solkar and Gavaskar (that's the total of both bowlers) before Bedi, Chandra and Prasanna came into the attack.

It's not hot it's humid.... Seriously the temperature won't rise here it's actually the humidy sucks us😐
Canada and USA and even Europe these days cross 40degs but mostly dry heat unlike within 40degs but highly humid India, humidity is the difference..
Nic guru kya bat h yr humare purane khiladiyo ko dikha diya, youtube pr pehla channel h jisne itna Purana video dikhaya thnks a lot
Bedi doing Bhangra at 5:00 is gold!
Look at how each and everyone is hooked onto the game. Test cricket is the best cricket. My city knows how to properly enjoy it. Knowledgeable Chennai crowd for the reason! #Madrasnallamadras
Yaar Mera bachpan ke din yaad as Gaye jo cricket match ki zalak cinema me dekha karta that.Thanking you so much for came back childhood rememembering
excellent to see these three great spinners in this clip. Three totally different challenges for the batsman. I noticed also how close Tony Greig stood to the batsman - could've swatted a fly on his cap! No protection either. Very confident in his own ability.
Umpire on triple red bull at 1:57
I was 51 then I was working at railway station there was a home next to the railway station in that there was a little tv I watched the whole match on that TV..... Missed tho old Indian team
I watched ur comment on that rubic cube video
Very old memories, thanks You Tube for making able to view it at present.
1973 se 2019 tak cricket bhut change hogya hai.. bas ek chij change nai huva
Vo hai indians ka cricket ke prati pyar 😍😍
What language is this?😂😂😝😂😝
1973 k bachpan k wo din yaad ate hai jab radio par comentary suna karte the aur ye match dekhkar lagata hai sapne pure ho gaye sachmuch kya wo din the .
I was( - 17.5) years old back then.
Hehe
I was -33 at that time.
I was 7 years old at that time Boss!
Straight drive of Pataudi and hook by Wadekar love to watch... BOTH legends gone... Wadekar was lucky captain but still there was no need to remove tiger from captaincy after Australian series in 1969.
Wadekaers nemesis was Sudhir Naik
Yes wonderful memories. I remember watching one day of this Test match sitting somewhere on the terrace in a cheap seat. I remember the queues that formed at 6AM!!
"After the formalities of a non-existent opening attack" Thanks ED Solkar! India's pace attack consisted of three overs from Messers Solkar and Gavaskar (that's the total of both bowlers) before Bedi, Chandra and Prasanna came into the attack.
Gavaskar..?
I am just 13 years old. I am delighted to see this match.
Thanks for all cricket video. It is good to see legands play.
I was very old at that time...
2 years old at that time...
Back when Indians actually watched test cricket.
Haha true
I also saw this match. It was fantastic.
Look at crowd very much decent and cultured
The famous Pataudi . My Brother spoke high of him back here in sri Lanka. My brother played against this same side in the early 70s in india .
*Thanks for sharing this beautiful video* 👌👌👌👍
Well cultured Indian crowd
The thing is....it was happened in "Chennai"
@@markkarthik5323 attend some English classes first you moron
@Mr. Sharma is Sharma s ur real name....silly North Indian...still using caste name...don't u fell shame... ofcourse South Indians always Gentle
@@markkarthik5323 gentle is another name of cowardness. Indian army constistues 75 percent of north indians with 25 percent marathas and gorkhas. South India takes away all industrial zones and enjoy AC jobs whereas highly educated north indians are kept to die of unemployment or in battlefield saving black asses of south indians
That's Chennai People for you
Neat and clean cricket...true gentleman's game
I was watching that match in the stadium.....well I was very old then..and now it's my rebirth...
Old is gold. Thanks for old memories.
This is a gem ! Thanks man ..
Brilliant upload with such clear pictures. Thank you.
WoW...as a 90's born kid...this is all new exp for me..thanks for the upload.
And then the catch Durani took of Chris Old, by running from Midon to Cover. Pat Pocock and NOrman Gifford, bowled continuous Maidenhighlights. overs from both ends with Pataudi and Durrani batting. In between, both would hit huge sixes. My first test match witnessed. I was just 14 then. Happy to see the highlights.
I was 11 years old and the memory is still green. Great match.
great video. how close does tony greig want to field at silly mid off?
Cricket was truely a gentleman's game at that time!
Was on official duty from Airforce Tambaram to maintain security had the pleasure of meeting my elder maharaja Fattesing Rao Gaekwad in pavalian alonwith .my brother Snehasheel Gaekwad who lives in Barada
Look how quick Arnold is for those days . Awesome
Hah, "non-existent pace attack"
What days those were.
Intelligent Chennai crowd they said,
And here is the proof.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Chandamama, State Bank, Eveready etc have done great work giving branded paper caps to the audience. Some people in the audience are rocking it with their sun glasses
There must be some wierd connection between Chepauk and 97. Fletcher in this match, Vishy vs WI in 1975, Tendulkar vs Pakistan all scored 97 here. The fielding captain would try everything to deny the batsman the coveted century.
Yea i remember this match watching live on my SMARTPHONE😊😉😊
Chutiye 😂😂
It's like watching a classic Hindi movie.😀
prasanna , bedi , chandra one of the greatest spinners not only for india but world cricket in general !!
This is the first cricket commentary . My father introduced me. Pongal holidays...It brings memory of my pa
