Ride along in the Mitsubishi MU-2 turboprop as I head up to the Cleveland, OH for the 2022 MU-2 MAX RPMS Safety Conference. Managed to find 100+knt headwinds, icing , rain, and strong crosswinds on landing. Thank you for enjoying aviation like I do. As they say, the right seat is open, hop in.
With only spoilers, after touchdown I think crosswind directional control is easier with yoke the opposite which lifts the downwind spoiler and counters weathervaning into crosswind. This is counter intuitive to ailerons into the crosswind to keep the wing from coming up. It works in a DC 9.
Man! I just love watching your videos. Anything related to sound quality or video editing didn't enter my mind until you mentioned it. Thanks for the ride, my friend.👍
Great vid! Flight planning, weather, ice, ATC, runway selection, conditions and solid CRM. Plus an amazing aircraft. Thank you for producing these. I’m still in a glass 172, it’s seeing this that motivates me to keep moving. Also, a special thank you for persisting and not letting the obvious ignorance and spitefulness of so many keyboard kowboys prevent you from sharing your flying career with us. -R
Wow - that was a quite the final into Lakefront! Having that camera with the RH wing view really showed how stable that big Misuibishi is - I was impressed. That was a workout!
Thanks! Flying is easier than taking video and posting I think.. understand why so many do not bother.. I messed up the audio early in the video, will try to improve on the next one I am working on. enjoy.
Wow! About halfway around base to final I picked out home and when you asked ground where Signature was I pointed you off to the left. Mid to late 70's flew right seat on part 135's out of Burke in an Aerostar 600, did Cleveland Air Show photography in 1979, 80 and 81 got to run the sound. Love MU-2's!
That is too funny.. I guess my tiny brain can not remember an airport layout 90% of the time.. The high wing load of the Aerostar would handle this place well!
You & that Mu-2 handled the weather great. Thanks for a great flight. Very interesting. Used to pick up steel coils about 3 miles SE of the airport there. Smooth landing in spite of the winds.
Great video past aerostar owner just love your aircraft. In setting up inside camera zoom in more to see the flight director then see glide slope and of course you speed. We all .love .to watch speed. Christopher Ottawa canada
@@mu2b60marquise I recently got the MU2 for my flight simulator. Looking forward to learning how to fly it. It is a very cool looking airplane and I especially like the analog gauges on mine.
I miss watching your videos. I hope the internet trolls haven't made you not want to post many videos moving forward. If so, I totally agree. I hope all is well.
Tim - Thanks for the note, honestly real life work load - setting up all the cameras and taking the video is a pain in the butt, and then finding the hours to compile and edit them is a pain in the butt.. I just have not had time.. although RUclips is sending me a check it seems soon! $38 I think.. lol
The flight controls are directly connected to the control surfaces, so you do get the aerodynamic feedback, although the are very well balanced, so it is not a difficult force to overcome..
Would have to go back and check, but was a short trip - South Carolina to Cleveland.. Depending on how many people , the plane is 900nm with no winds, I am conservative on fuel, I am sure you could get 1000 out of it if you wanted, and I also don't step climb much to get better range.. my mission is usually 300-700nm
My god, why such a nervouse inputs on aileron and elevator ,its really not the way to fly smoothly the Mu2 , no wondering that much of them been crashed 😳
Interesting comment - 1) Do you understand the difference between aileron and spoiler based aircraft? That will help you better understand the movements required on the "aileron" movement. Happy to explain if you are not familiar. 2) As for the comment about crashing, I will let that pass as you clearly don't know the history and safety record of the MU2 which has been better than most every turboprop for the last 10 years.
So it's "FIVE to stay alive?" I get the trims and flaps, but what about the throttles is a forgettable stay alive safety item? Condition lever? CI? NTS? Friction lock? And what about bleed air sources? We used to call those the killer B's for one last time just before take off checks.
Hey Dave, enjoyed meeting you in Cleveland! I don’t mean to steal your thunder, but this question has come up on the comments at least a few times. You may have answered it, and if so, I apologize. But since I haven’t seen it, here it is for those who are interested. By the way, outstanding piloting skills, MU-2 flying, and video production! If I were not so lazy, I would take over for you since you now fly the Avanti. Five to stay alive is: “5-4-3-2-1-Ignition” 5 degrees nose up trim 4 the knob below rudder trim is FOR the spoiler (roll) trim 3 degrees left rudder trim 2(0) degrees flaps 1 condition levers to ‘Take Off’ position Ignition on Auto (or Continuous if heavy rain or slush on runway)
Thanks Richard - and you SHOULD take over and keep educating on this great airplane... It is 5X the work to make a video than fly the damn airplane though.. lol
Would you be comfortable doing an Atlantic Crossing in this aircraft with passengers? 99.9% videos I see are pilots flying empty planes all around by themselves talking about how great it is to fly, which has very little utility to viewers unlike you.
First, the empty plane videos - in my opinion, have more to do with people not wanting to be on camera, and what little extra time/attention you have as a pilot. Technically, you could do that trip, but I think you would find it not cost effective at all..

I have yet to watch the video, but it sounds like you had an adventure and a half

That landing at BKL was butter!!!😮
Like how the video starts, and lets me know all the good stuff. Keep it up!
TY!
Hey You did excellent job, icing weather and Nice flight.
Glad you enjoyed it

Yeah tower, we got the wind, tailwind with a huge crosswind, thanks for checking that you gave us a serious workload.
:)
That was some fine airmanship! Thanks for the ride.
I would like to add a word of encouragement, so here goes...encouragement. Really enjoying your vids.
haha.. thank you Skip.. lol
Quality of the Vids has improved, nice angles especially the panel.

I’m glad I’m on this Channel for one of my favorite Multi engine Aircraft the Loud and Fast MU-2 and I’m ready to pick up your IFR clearance
Glad to have you along
Love riding along. Thanks for taking the time in your busy schedule to make these for us.
Thank you , and glad you enjoyed.
Really enjoyed this one. Everything spot on. Nice greaser in Cleveland and you wearing shorts, looks cold there!
Was 90 degrees when I left... So yes, I was that guy walking into the FBO with a jacket and shorts lol
Flew out of lakefront for 7 years Can count on fingers and toes how many nice days there were to fly out of there
Well that would have been good information to know! hehehe.. Was great training, so worth the trip.

More the MU2 than me for sure.. Great little bird
Love the sound as well and thank you for the ride along and I’ll be there for the next one anytime
Glad to have you on-board
Very nice video. Flying the MU2 along with doing videos is a full workload!
Thank you WILLIAM, Hopefully in time my flying in my video skills will get better
Good stuff!
Thanks!
Beautiful landing sir
Thanks a lot!
Back in the day's of the airmail 20's-30's the stretch along Lake Erie, Buffalo to Detroit was one of the worst spots to fly. the weather...
That makes a lot of sense Bruce.. I like the South East :)
Just found your channel. Great job !! Thanks' for doing what you do!
Thanks for watching!
Appreciate your sharing

What sort of feedback do airplane controls provide? Is there any tactile feedback based on inputs or is it just visual? Always wondered.
Thank you.
The flight controls are directly connected to the control surfaces, so you do get the aerodynamic feedback, although the are very well balanced, so it is not a difficult force to overcome..
I never saw ice. Don’t thinks ever seen I’ve ever. We call that dust in Michigan in winter.
Still too cold.. you can keep it all.. :)
This was a full flap takeoff with the marquise?
Garry, no - standard 20 degree flap take off. It would be a very rare event to use 40 degrees for a takeoff
What was going on with the right engine EGT around the 6:05 minute mark ?
good catch. the air data computer was going out, so would give bad data... :)
Love the MU2. Is yours a Marquis?
Yes , this is the MU2-B60 Marquise
Great plane ,both models Marquise and Solitaire but made for professionals thats why a lot of them crashed with wrong individuals on command.
Excellent video!
What was the distance covered in this flight? What is the max range of your MU2?
Would have to go back and check, but was a short trip - South Carolina to Cleveland.. With a 22 it cross wind takeoff and 18 kts for landing you got this and are you at 26 kts faster?
For the landing, the actual headwind component was very little , less than 5knts. So really did not factor
Hey what kind of flights are these? Cargo?
All of the flights in these videos are Part 91 - Personal or Business flying
what in the world is going on with your right engine temperature gauge??
Good catch! :) Sensor issue, got that fixed the following weekend.

Excellent (and classy) answer to someone whose ignorance is on display and who has clearly never flown an MU-2

This was a leased MU-2 this guy does not own it. HLH Leasing got it back and now belongs to somebody else.
Incorrect, never the less - I sold the plane to a new owner in March of 2023, and he is keeping her busy - and moved up to an Avanti II
