    Rick, I cannot thank you enough for the install video. Watched it several times and the install went perfectly. As you suggested, I checked all the ribbon cables and noticed the very small one on the right side was disconnected. Most likely happened when removing the antenna wire from the glued clips. Thanks again.

    Watched this video originally last month... broke down and ordered a set from dronevalley this week. Install was a bit nerve racking, and I found my hands do not like reinstalling ribbon line, but install completed! The basic control test was done to ensure the phantom still works as expected, and hope to do a range test tomorrow!
    Thanks for the informative video. It was my step-by-step all the way through.

    Nicely done. I've had a few comments on my ArgTek antenna video where viewers wished I explained the installation process more thoroughly. I'll be sure to refer them to this one. Excellent job. In fact, if I were you, I'd notify ArgTek so they could reference your video instead of the one that isn't in English on their website.

      Hey thanks for the kind words. I had a few customers ask me about the installation so I thought I'd do a clip to explain it and save time. I appreciate you referring viewers to it if they need help with the installation. I just uploaded a clip on expanding their controller to 32-channels because this is the next thing they typically ask me about. I appreciate you stopping by.

      That's what I like most about it. I don't really care that it helps me fly 3 miles, I want a rock-solid signal in close and these deliver. I was flying out over the bay today and knowing the signal would stay consistent is the only reason I would travel that far out over the water.

    Thanks a lot for the instructions, Rick. I was nervous about taking my controller apart, but this video gave me the confidence to do it. I had it playing from my laptop on one side of the desk, with all the little parts and screws on the other. I had a little trouble with removing the stock antennas and a couple other steps, but I was ultimately successful after a few hours.

    This ARGtek system works well. Very easy to install. Took me a half a hour. Make sure you buy it through Ricks store so you don't end up with a knock off. I ended up adding 2 three Watt boosters on it. Getting 2 1/2 - 3 miles of strong Wi Fi. Sunhans makes a good booster.

    The installation is much more challenging than appears to be in the video. The most challenging parts in the video are shown as before/after, removing antennas and wires was not easy. Full installation may take more than 2 hours. Also, with latest version of DJI GO, this antennas will work only in the allocated bandwidth of channels 13 to 20, it is no longer possible to activate all 32 channels unless you downgrade the DGI GO App. The video is very helpful, in the end of the day everything worked as expected.

    Great video, very informative and helpful w/this mod. Got it all installed and buttoned up to find the altitude/rotation thumbstick getting stuck slightly in the up position. I had to pull the controller apart again. I found out the left antenna wire had popped up and was laying on the bottom mechanical part of that thumbstick. I repositioned it around and down and proceeded to wrap the controller up. Just as I went to put the bigger ribbon cable on the board I fumbled and twisted the cable, ripping it at the left side. BIG mistake, that cable is super delicate. I did a quick net search and found out the cable is NOT available and DJI wants you to send the controller back to them for repair. It would be great if DJI or someone else had this cable available knowing how many people mod the controllers antennae. I wound up hitting a popular "auction/purchasing" website and found people selling spare controllers. Snagged one for $140 w/shipping. I'm just going to get the cable from that one, and I'll only have to wait ~ 1 week before I can fly again and test this mod. I only flew my P4 three times before this mishap but managed to get a couple of video's I'm going to upload to my page soon.

    Great instructional video! Being a person that does electronics repair at component level I see no reason to pull the small PCB (Printed Circuit Board) or disconnect the two ribbon cables on the sides. All you have to do is unlock and remove the large ribbon cable at the bottom of the PCB. Both of the small ribbon cables are connected to the button PCB's that are attached to the back half of the case (no need to unhook them) and the large ribbon cable is connected to the main board so that's the only one that needs to be disconnected.

    Well 4 hrs. latter and I got it installed. I must have gotten the new improved cables (did'nt look anything like yours) because the outside cable where it pops to the brass fitting in would not fit! The end where it's taped up was real thick on both cables and the only way I could make it pop in was to cut the post where the one srew that holds the main board in by that contection. I tried to chissle a little notch out on the post but that still would not let me get that cable popped in. The other one was no problem. Not sure if I'll tackle any more projects like this. I never would have been able to do this had it not been for your video. Thanks for putting out your videos. I will check this out in the morning and let you know how I did.

      Ray, I'm really sorry to hear that you had that much trouble installing the kit. I'm just curious if you bought it from us or somewhere else. I know there are a lot of "bootleg" kits out of China that look like the real thing but aren't the ARGtek original. We're an authorized ARGtek dealer and provide support after the sale so all of ours are straight from the factory. Please let me know and if it's ours I'll do all I can to sort it out for you. As a side note, the trick with getting the sleeve through the antenna hole is to slide the outer sleeve in from the top first and then the threaded part up through the bottom. A lot of people try and jam both up through the bottom and it can bind. Let me know how you made out and I'm glad the clip helped. Rick

      Rick, I got it from amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B01BAH7EQO/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_5
      I had already had it before I found you on You Tube. Took it out today and thought I had messed up only to find out I was in a class D airport range. But before I found that out, GPS was not working on tablet so I couldn't get a home point set. Said "Safe to Fly GPS", I could only see half the map where I was at and it was blurry. Once I turned on the Data, map was working and then I got the DJI Go need to confirm that I could fly where I have always flown for the last 6 months. So whatever BlueProton is selling it's working fine on my P3P. I did'nt go any distance and had no video loss, so I must be gettin a good signal. Two questions for you: #1. I have always been under the assumption that the tablet should be in Airplane mode, no Data or WiFi on. #2. I live in a suburb of Phoenix and fly in open residential fields or city parks. I have done the 32 channel hack what do you suggest, Auto or one of the higher upper channels.
      Side note: I had no problem with the sleeves. It was the one wire antennae end that pops into the fitting by the Up & Down stick that you had to remove the screw to get it off in the video (14:18) And now that I've gone back and looked at the video (14:40) I see that the wire is over the srew that I left out and cut the post off to get my end wire to connect because I was tring to pop it on with it down beside the post. As much trouble as I was having with that one wire I wish now I would have just stopped and finished the install this morning with a fresh look at the video from the begining just as I have now. I don't think I have hurt anything as far as the stability of the main board.
      P.S. Where can I get one of those signal checkers like the one in your range test video. Thanks again, wish you sold on Amazon as I have a account with them I use just for the drone biz. Take care!

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      Ray, the company you bought it from (Blue Proton) are great guys and that is definitely a legit kit. That one screw is a pain because it's right in the way of the connection. it pops off with a little work but getting the new one in is a pain. Sounds like everything is working great for you now ao good luck with it. I actually leave Wifi and Bluetooth on when I fly and haven't had any issues so far so I'm not sure it's a big deal. That warning usually comes up when you're in a restricted area like a National Park or near an airport. If you pass the Part 107 test in September you won't have to worry about it with smaller (Class G) airports. The EMF meter is available from a lot of different vendors, even Amazon. Just be sure you find one that can cover the ISM band. Glad you got everything sorted and thanks again for supporting the channel.

    Well started to take the remote apart. The cables connected to the small board you mention to use you finger nail to unclip it. They have changed the design and have a little pull tab to take the ribbon cable out. I found this out too late after I broke the connector off the board. $280 mistake (ouch) so I purchase a new controller. So if anyone has bought a new P3Pro be careful not to make the mistake I made. Hopefully I can find someone who can fix the broken controller and have it for a spare.

      Thanks for the support and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. The increase in distance is really dependent on how "noisy" the location is but in general I'm seeing more than double the distance I was able to fly before adding the kit. The other thing I love about them is that they provide a rock-solid signal when flying in close and allow me to fly in crowded areas without losing signal. They are easy to install and well worth the investment. I hope you sub the channel so you don't miss any updates.

    Hi Rick ! TKS for the video. It works well but why do you use such thick antenna cables ? The are really difficult to install and find a place, where they can rest. Especially the connection between the plug and the cable is very thick. I had a lot of work to get them somewhere to sit. Why not installing the same thin cables and plugs like the original antennas ?

    Got the kit from you yesterday...well packaged and arrived super quick! I watched your installation video a couple times and then I proceeded to tearing my controller apart. You make it look easier than it is...for example the wires on the new antenna leads are twice a thick as the original wires and STIFF! I had to take the joystick control board out to make the "snap" on antenna connections. Also didn't like the cable routing options for the new wires going over the ribbon cables on the far right as you look at the board. Why do those antennas have to be cross connected on the board like that? It would have been so much easier to go directly to the same side connectors...that part makes no sense to me. I have to wait till I get home to test the flight and connections of all the controls...I think I was pretty careful and put things back the way they were...sort of lol. My advice to someone who is not comfortable working with small connectors in a fragile area...have someone do the mod for you. There is soooo much you could screw up inside the controller. Tiny little parts, ribbon cables, wire paths and connectors...I was able to do it, but I have been working with small electronics for 30 plus years. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would score this a 6 for technical difficulty, and an 8 for likely hood you will jack up your controller and have to send it back to DJI for a non warranty repair. I hope these antennas are worth it, I hope they help me gain an extra 2000 to 3000 feet of distance...my Phantom 3 Professional loses connection at about 1500 - 1700 feet at around 275 feet of elevation! That is super sucky! But I live in a highly populated area, and there are many forms of interference i'm sure. Now that I have these external sms connectors I can experiment with other higher gain antennas as well.

      Thanks for the post and I agree that you need to take your time with the upgrade and avoid coffee at all costs before you start. It is a pretty straightforward upgrade but you need to take a delicate approach to the work since you're around a lot of sensitive parts. The cables are thicker to help reduce the radiation loss in the wires and deliver more of the signal to the antennas. The stock wires are thin with less shielding, which means there is a lot more signal lost in transit. I really appreciate the review and hope you stop back soon. Rick

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  7 лет назад

      Casey, thanks a lot for the sub and I'm glad the clip are helping. I will work on a clip for the ARGtek extenders but the P3S is a little different than the P3P and P3A since it uses Wifi instead of LightBridge to connect to the drone. The ARGtek extenders are still better than the parabolic ones but I would suggest trying the folding parabolic's first to see if you get the distance you need. They are pretty inexpensive and might do the job for you and you can always upgrade later. Thanks again for the sub and the post, Rick

    Hi I have been a long time subscriber. You are my go to / how to channel. Well done video. One question. When installing the right side antenna wire did you just snake the wire or did you actually remove the other 3 screws on the stick controller module ?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      Thanks for the sub and your support. When I do these installations I typically remove the other 3 screws to make it really easy. I have seen others do it by leaving the control stick in place and just routing the wires over the top of it but I always worry about nicking them later during use. The control stick comes out very easy so give that a try.

    Very good video indeed. Thx a lot. I also appreciate your "way of speaking". Even for non-english-native-speakers you articulate yourself always very clear. I just subscribed your channel today ;-)
    One question: I received an ArgTek Range Extender Kit yesterday and tried to check it before starting the installing procedure. I found out, that when I move the wifi planels, I can hear in both of them some "lose parts" shaking/moving in the inside. Is this normal? Could it be a transportation damage?
    I was a bit concered and opened slightly one of the penals to get a glimps inside. I could see that the metal plate is not fixed or glued onto the plastic housing but can slide freely on the four plastic bolts holding the housing together. So this is the sound I here, when I move the wifi panel around. What do you guys recomend in such a case?
    Thx in advance for any answer ... and keep on flying ;-)

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the support and I appreciate you watching. The rattling in the antenna paddles is annoying but shouldn't cause any problems with operation as long as the wire is attached securely inside of the antenna. You could add a little piece of foam inside the case if it really bugs you. Did you buy those from our website or somewhere else? I offer full support for anything we sell you and am more than happy to replace them if needed. Be sure to sub the channel.

    Thanks a lot for sharing detailed instructions. I installed the ArgTek kit in my P4 today. To test the end result, I checked signal strength by removing the antenna panel one at a time. With only the left antenna on, I got full signal strength through several walls inside my home about 50 ft away. Surprisingly, with the only right antenna on, I only got 3 out of 5 bars in signal strength at the same distance and location. I'm wondering why left and right antennas would yield different signal strength?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      Sunny, thanks for the post and those two antenna work in parallel with other to create the proper radiation pattern and you'll get weird results if either of them are damaged or missing. The transmitter is expecting to have both of them installed and you can actually damage the circuit if they are not installed. Kind of a cool experiment but don't do that too often so you don't hurt the remote. Thanks for posting and be sure to sub the channel if you haven't already so you don't miss any updates. Rick

      Drone Valley Thanks for responding. I did the experiment to ensure both antennas were installed and working properly under the assumptions that each would work independently with same level of signal strength. Definitely will test this out to see if it will exceed my personal record of 13k ft with reflectors on stock antennas.

    I'll probably buy the upgraded kit from you. So what your saying is the paddles aren't as good for long distance flights so for distance use the long antennas ?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      It's the other way around. The square paddles are perfect for long distance flying and the thinner "rods" are perfect for Omni-directional coverage. I probably use the Omni-directionals about 60% of the time and the paddles only when I'm flying far away. Rick

      Tell me more about this. I am curious about getting these ARGteks and maybe adding the boosters later. Curious how you could add the boosters and still have the antennae attached to the controller. It is my understanding that the signal path could go from the controller, to the booster, then to the antennae.

      Yea I get that, but just curious on what happens to the antennae. Do you have to remove them from the controller and then mount them to the booster or something? The logistics of sending the signal out the controller, into the booster, then back into the antennae is what confuses me.

      Good to know. If I decide to upgrade I'll defiantly show support and buy through you! Couple quick questions. Not sure if you mentioned it and I missed it but is this mod 8dBi or 10dBi? Also what is the frequency on this mod, 2.4GHz...?

    • @Dronevalley

      They are actually 7dBi and work for the full ISM band 2.4 GHz - 2.49 GHz so they cover all of the 32-frequencies the upgraded controller supports. Thanks for considering us if you do the upgrade.

      I use a pencil eraser to push the connector in gently and it should seat in almost all the way. You also need to make sure you have it aligned correctly by checking to see that the edge of the connector is parallel to the connector. I had an issue with one of the upgrades because the cable was skewed in the connector. Try those suggestions and let me know how you make out and be sure to sub the channel so you don't miss any updates. Thanks, Rick

    Just done this mod....jesus christ it was irritating. The split tubes that hold the stock antennas seem to be very slightly shorter on the eu version so getting needle nose pliers around them is virtually mission impossible. Ended up i had to trim away the plastic portion that holds it in place to get it out. I reinstalled the sticks improperly so the controls were totally reversed so had to go back in and sort that out, lost a couple of screws in the process which i have to replace.
    No real clue about range improvements thus far as the channel mod seems to no longer work. =/

    I heard the transmitter power output for the P4 is 20% less than the P3P. With the range extender kit not having any 2.4 boost module in between controller and antenna, how does the extender actually get it's range? the panel shape? ... thanx

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      Thanks for watching and for the post. Actually the P4 has a slightly more powerful transmitter than the P3P. The P4 spec is 23dBm and the P3P is 20dBm so even a naked controller will give a slight distance advantage. This kit helps even further by replacing the stock omni-directional antennas with a set of high-gain paddles that provide an additional 7dBi of gain. The combination makes for a much longer flight and a stronger signal in close to help you overcome "noise" in the channel. I hope that helps and you sub the channel so you don't miss any updates.

      Unfortunately, once you open the controller you void the warranty on the controller. There is really no way of telling that you opened the case but it still voids the warranty. Hey Rick. Quick question. I'm installing the ARG-tek range extender I bought from you. When I took the first panel off with the hex head screws one of the black snap locks on the left mini ribbon cable holder was missing. Do you think it would be ok to put a drop of hot glue on it when I re-assemble to make sure it doesn't pull out ??? Thanks for your input. Johnny J

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      Johnny, it's odd that it was missing and fortunate that it didn't work loose and cause you problems. Using a small dab of hot glue would do the trick to hold it in place and could be removed if needed later in case you have to unseat the cable. Thanks for your business and be sure to let me know how you like the extenders. Rick

  • @JOHNPJORDAN50
    @JOHNPJORDAN50 8 лет назад

    Rick. I'm looking to buy the ARGtek range extender from your site. 2 questions. 1 which kit do you recommend (I have a DJI PA3) You have 2 kits one with 2 sets of antennas I would probabaly just use the square paddles. @ your install video uses a Philips head and a hex head but the photo on your store only show a Philips head ?

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      Johnny, the choice is up to you which kit you like and I try and make it easy to upgrade later. The basic kit comes with the bases and all the installation tools you'll need to do the work. It also includes the long-range paddles. Those are great for flying long distances but are very directional. I also offer the Omni-directional antenna that you can buy in the PLUS kit or add later if you like. These are excellent for flying in close and greatly improve your signal strength in all directions. Another new item is the car kit that allows you to use either of these antenna from inside your car. I hope that helps with your decision but everything you'll need comes with the kit you purchase. Thanks, Rick

    Hey Rick. Installed the ARGtek boosts range (6000 foot test) but the video feed is very choppy even at close range even with almost full bars on the video. Any ideas. LITCHI screwed me on a upgrade, they took away my 32 channels. Now I'm down to 8 noisy channels like DJI GO app. FYI, I have transmission channels set on auto. Thanks Rick

    • @Dronevalley
      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

      Johnny, choppy video can either be a weak signal or a slow processor in the tablet/phone you're using on the controller. Since you have a good signal indication, I'm thinking it's your tablet. You can try reducing the video streaming size in the application to see if that helps or temporarily swap out the tablet with another device to see if it fixes the issue. Let me know how you make out. Rick

      I'm about halfway done with it. It's a lot more complicated than it seems, trying to film and sync up several cameras in the clip. Yes, I use both and the flat panel antennas are great when I really need extra distance because they direct the signal far down-field.
