  • This clip shows you the advantage to signal strength that these passive range extenders can provide. They are easy to install and can increase your RF signal strength substantially when flying your drone. They are available from a number of online retailers and on our website at the link below. Thanks for watching!

Ken Heron Hang on a sec... I appreciate your experiment, truly. But...your RF meter is only a few feet from the source. Of course the signal is going to be magnified 4x or more.
Do the same experiment in a large soccer or football field, or even further away, and see if you still get the same strength magnification at that range.
      I seriously doubt it.
I'm not hating...at all. I love your videos. If I had an RF meter I'd go test it with my P4 myself.
I *do* have the Skyreat Extenders as thus far, I'm not impressed.
I know Ken Heron had good luck, but he didn't do a before and after in his video - so it's impossible to know how far he would have gone on that hilltop without the extenders. Same distance? Maybe.
(Ken, go see Vulcan again...without the extenders!)

Chris Lucas ... It was Rick doing the experiment and Not Ken.... and it really would not make that much of a difference how far away it is, the Parabolic will direct more RF energy in a single direction... The meter proves that... Distance will obviously result in a weaker signal in both case but there will still be more energy directed via the parabolic.s.. Most of those meters are designed for close range anyways so I would doubt that it would even register any signal if it was more than 50 ft away since the meters are looking for a BROAD range of frequencies and so many others in the area would compete. This is a valid test for the purpose being discussed.

Without a doubt the best evidence of a reflector working that i have seen to date!
I have seen loads of range test videos stock and with boosters and it made me wonder if my drone was crap as I could only get a fraction of the stock distance, took me a while to figure out the biggest variables were location and interface 🙄

Thanks for providing this video. I have a diy parabolic reflector I use regularly and it works fantastic but I didn't know how much it helped. I did a range test recently with my latest reflector and with the reflector properly focused and had a 16,807 ft flight with a phantom 3 standard. The battery ended the test and initiated a RTH but the signal was dropping out at that point as well. From my trial and error experience the distance from the antenna to the reflector makes a world of difference in the signal strength. I recorded the flight and have healthy drone telemetry as well if your interested. I didn't want to supply a link publicly on your site without your approval. I enjoy your channel. Thanks for the time and effort spent educating the public.

Thanks for the support and I'll bet there are still people somewhere that will debate gravity as a concept. I wanted to do the clip to end the speculation with some science and help others understand that these parabolic reflectors are based on a sound principle that will improve signal strength by simply slipping them on the controller. Thanks again for posting and I hope you sub the channel so you don't miss any updates. Rick

Thanks for this excellent video! And by the way, those 'haters' who claim it doesn't work - I'd bet a dollar that they didn't know there's a thin film of protective plastic on most of these which is supposed to be removed. One video I saw - he comments that the thing didn't work very well, then he realized there was a film of plastic on the metallic dish. Going to try my new Tozo booster today! Will let you know how well it works. Awesome that you showed these results on the signal tester - THANK YOU.

So I just go this extender today in the mail and decided to give the phantom a quick flight. And I DOUBLED my flight range. I went out to just over 9000 ft and that is from my back yard in a sub-division with lots of wifi interference and we had to fly over high power electric lines. Very impressive!

      @Dronevalley  8 лет назад

I have purchased a pair of these. They are not joined together like yours, they are two separate panels. Where I live there must be a ton of interference because I cant go more than 700 feet out without losing my signal and contact with the PP3. Then I tried these panels and I noticed a difference at that same distance. It really did help.
I took my drone up to high desert in Nevada...I was able to fly 3 to 4 times as far with no loss of signal and I can only guess its due to a lack of people and other wireless interference. I knew the panels helped, but I didn't know it was a 4X better signal!

So far, with those attached to the antennas, I've not had any issues. I'm with you about the radiation, too. I'd rather beam that signal at the drone and not at me.

Thanks for posting and confirming they work for you. I had a few folks question their use early on with the channel and felt I had to do an actual test in a clip to prove it. Be sure to stop by again and sub the channel so you don't miss anything.

hey it's Mike here I'm a new subscriber to your RUclips channel and it seems that you know more about these drones that a lot of these other Knuckleheads that are on RUclips I'm also a new drone and Suzy is I have a DJI Phantom 3 advance and I'm learning the ropes of droning so I've been watching your videos and I've been taking a lot of hints from you on how to set up and inspect we flight and all of that thank you so much

I believe what you said on the range extenders. I trust you and your products. All I wanted to point out was that for an engineer, you didn't set up your folding table correct and the left support looks like its ready to collapse. lol.
Thanks for the great UAV/UAS products.

Good video! You could also add to this video measuring the radiation backwards to see how much it is reduced backwards.

These things will absolutely work. You're turning an Omni directional antenna into a directional one by sliding a reflector onto the antenna. For anyone to think this won't improve signal in the direction the silver (or gold, depended on the colour you chose) is facing is incorrect. I'm a ham radio operator with the top level license (lots of study!) and it's RF 101 something like this. If you're a real cheap skate you could make one out of cardboard or balsa wood and tin foil too. Great demonstration of how something so simple and cheap can be effective. I'm waiting for mine to arrive in the mail for my Phantom 4 👍🏼😎

Thanks for the post and I agree with you. I was convinced they worked on my controller the minute I started using them but had a lot of doubters on the channel. I decided to do the test clip to show the results of an EMF meter to put the issue to rest. As an Engineer, I understand the RF principle behind the reflectors and wanted to add some science to the discussion with the test. I appreciate you watching and commenting and hope you're still subbed to the channel so you don't miss any new updates. Rick

vk3crg I had one for weeks and like a dummy I was using it backward lol only used it for 3 min thought it didn't work can't wait try to try again wow I'm a dummy sometimes they didn't even slide all the way down the antenna lol

By the way, the reason I'm here is because I am looking for another range booster that can fit with a sunhood for my iphone 7plus. Any suggestion? I like the DJI sun hood they have but not sure what range booster would go with it. The one I have now is the white one from polar.

I agree with you, from my own personal experience they do work. I came across another youtube video (sadly i can't remember the link). The chap who did that youtube video did a similar experiment to you. However he went into it a little deeper and explained and showed how the type of refletors you tested weren't true parabolic reflectors. He posted a template for a true parabol for the phantom 3 and 4.
I went ahead and made one from the template, which cost pennies, the result was phenomenal, far better than the mass produced item you tested.
Either way, home made or mass prodused, the reflectors greatly improved the range over standard.
Good video and i liked your physical electronic proof.

That other clip was Andrew McNeil. Sadly his design was not correct and when he showed a roll of tapes curve being the "Same" curve and not a Parabola, he was totally wrong. It actually should look more like a curve than a classic looking parabola since only a small amount of the parabola is being used.
I did the same design using SolidWorks parabola design at the same distance that the antenna is to the rear of the parabola and then overlaid his hand drawn design. His is TOTALLY wrong. ! I mean this guy uses straws and none precision side cutters to trim electrical copper wire to precision microwave frequency lengths ? He didn't even reply to my comments on his design. Why ? Because he has been proved wrong about him hanging crap on the designs out there.
I would trust a $10K + programs design that is used to design million $ machinery over a hand drawn design.....
I used my design, 3D printed it, used Brass as a reflector material and got 8KM range on a P4 in CE mode (Low power in Australia). Proof it works.

simon p Hi I am in Aussie too, could you please send me a link to your design, I have a Phantom 4 plus and got 3.6km in a remote beach area using 2.4 frequency, will your design improve this?

Thanks for a great test, which proves what I say too.
My parabolic boosters have allowed me to go over 5 km with my P3P. Without them, I was lucky to get 3.
Now, should I invest the money to get argtec boosters installed to help keep my signal when there's obstacles or would it not help that at all?
