Love Mark Webber, he is such a gentleman.
1998 and 1999 was the golden years of sports car racing.
no
hat was 1995-1996
@@cartoonfan959 For me it was all the 90's Gt1 era so 1993-1999 legendary and most of the cars from that era made into Gran Turismo and Forza so average ppl can experience them at least virtually.
Mark Webber great guy, awesome driver!!!
***** I know right and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PORSCHE 911 GT1 :D
Best looking Porche in the world
Mark Webber ..top man!
Weren't both cars known for doing backflips? Mercedes did it the best.
Mark Murarescu Which track? LeMans or Road Atlanta?
The Mercedes with the issue at Le Mans was the CLR in 1999. The car in this video is the CLK GTR. This is the same model Porsche, though. I believe that one was at Road Atlanta, but not 100% sure.
Good to know. The Porsche did flip at Road Atlanta, an identical car, with the same number even. Not sure if this is the exact car, rebuilt or a different car with the same number. But still, putting Mark Webber in car known for flipping is just asking for trouble.
Mark Webber perfected it, twice. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
@@crusherbmx The cars that flipped did it because they were in the wake of another car in other words they got too close then took off that's not the case here so thus there's no danger of that happening.
Lol the interviewer sounds like Cleveland Jr. xD
i was really expecting some onboard footage on this car...
well, uploaders cant magically see into the future and read the minds of tens of thousands of people to please them..... Why watch onboard footage of a demonstration of the car simply cruising at a fraction of its potential?? go watch it race you dummy...
So prefer the 98!
So mean and aggressive!
What did Mark say about Porsche GT1 vs Mercedes GTR? I couldn't catch.
Алексей Кастевич Mercedes has a bigger V12 engine, with a huge torque, but Porsche's better brakes and aerodynamics makes GT1 a slightly better backage. And it won LeMans
Mantas Meilutis thank you =)
Webber is actually wrong about the car he was driving the CLK GTR was 6.0 Litre V12 but the LM version was a 5.0 Litre V8
To be fair it was 16 years since he drove it so he might of forgot...
Its too bad that Porsche were unable to increase the power and performance of the GT1-98 for the 1999 racing year and for Le Mans. It seems that it would not be too difficult to make the car competitive with the Toyota and the Mercedes for the 1999 running of Le Mans. Anyone with knowledge of why Porsche opted to retire the car after the 1998 season?
SnowyOwl I think they opted out of factory racing that year entirely until their return in 2015
it has got 911 lights, lets call it 911!
GT1 WAS TO TOP RACING CAR MCLAREN F1 CORVETTE ASTON MARTIN V12 Always like those road car transform to racing
Forgot Flip out moment???hahaha...And CLR did it again...OMG
MW found a razor at last, lol!

Those were days when they at least resembled normal cars. Now LMP1 is really ugly.
***** what? Porsche made road cars if these
***** both cars actually, I commented before watching the whole video
MrPorsche91730
Mercedes made two CLK-LM "road cars" to homologate the competition car. The first chassis was used for crash testing. The second was sold in 1998 to a Japenese collector, who sold it back to a French dealer years later.
As far as I know, Porsche made a single GT1-98 "road version". That's it.
Well you are wrong because Mercedes made 26 and Porsche and 23
dan landry Nope, read again what I wrote.... then take a look of this:
- Porsche 911 GT1-98: Chassis number: 001 (crashed at Road Atlanta), 002, 003 (Le Mans winner), 004, 005.... plus one "road legal" car.
- Mercedes CLK-LM: Chassis number: LM-003, LM-004 (both Le Mans participants)... LM-9801, LM-9802 ( both 1998 FIA GT season participants)... plus two "road legal" cars.
Hope this helps.
This is my favourite Porsche but sadly Porsche probably didn't let Webber to stretch it's legs. Much like Porsche at an AutoShow they're to wussy to let anyone in there cars and let alone stretch their legs.
Daniel K You're comparing driving a unique hand-built Porsche with racing pedigree to letting slobs at an auto show take selfies in the driver's seat of an 911 Turbo? Yeah, that's relevant.
Have a short read (remember to read it in Chris Harris' voice) about a car company that really is the wuss of the lot - Ferrari: jalopnik.com/5760248/how-ferrari-spins
Calle Söderberg
I see your point.
I think they didnt let him cause of the mercedes accidents
This message is for you falcon.,I click reply in my inbox, redirected here but can't find your comment? I swear you tube is run by a bunch of rich over paid clowns. Again the original comment was BOTH WERE NEVER SOLD AS ROAD CARS when in fact both were. I'm not talking about how many were made what year. If someone said no GT1s were ever made what arguments makes more sence well, one was made in 98 or in total 25 911 GT1s were built. Sorry you are all too illiterate to understand the original comment and what I said. I think the fact so many people keep trying to correct me shows how dumb people are
I didn't like the 996 version of the GT1. The 993 GT1 Looks nicer
Aventanario 996 all the way. That design is timeless. The 993 looks dated
:3
mark finally realise how awful mercs was to drive
