every single one of these cars is absolutely iconic.

The most iconic of them all was the McLaren F1 GTR and if the LT version was there then it would be twice as iconic. I also liked the 911 GT1 and CLK GTR
@@ebglua6804 I like all of them.. CLK GTR, 911 GT1, GT-One TS020, Panoz Esperante GT1, Nissan r390 Gt1, all of them.. Really liked that class, only topped by the next top class in LM; P900. (In my opinion)
@@Bullshit_Media I think you meant GT-One TS020, not 50. TS050 is Toyota's current LMP1 car (won at Le Mans in 2018 and 2019).

You went too far in the past and I disagree.
Late 90's prototypes and early 2000's had a similar look because the technology in aerodynamics was the same.
Early 90's? Not so much.
I miss GT1 and I miss Group C..

@@canyonkiller4431 Manufacturers. They never kept to the rules. Also the proper LMP Protos were much faster. If a Manufacturer had run an open LMP in 1998, on pure pace they would have won by two Figure lap numbers
Wow I’m mind blown , Toyota had the same fate at lemans in 2017 , was a lap away from victory and the trans mission went out and gave Porsche the victory just like in this video almost exactly 20 years later. How crazy is that. History repeats itself

It was 2016 when the Toyota broke down on the last lap but you're right. There is a bit of a history of Toyota's failing at Le Mans allowing Porsche to win. Something similar happened in 2017, when all the Toyotas had problems in the night, with 2 retiring, and the third falling completely out of contention.
Because toyota just aint that good and their products in racing arent as reliable as their road cars.
Porsche is and always will be king of sports cars. Fighting against them is always a mistake!

Of all the great eras at LeMans, this one stands out most to me as it relates to beautiful racing cars..
Epic cars and also some iconic drivers too. What a line up. This was the year that got me hooked on lemans as a you man after 1995 got me into things.

Esperante GTR-1, R390 GT1, 911 GT1, TS020 GT-One, CLK-LM
This was one of the best grids, at least among the top class, ever at Le Mans. That GT-One in both 98 and 99 had every chance to win, it had the performance, it had the beauty, it just didn't had the reliability and in 1999 the fuel economy which was what made the V12 LMR the better car across the 24 hours since it could make considerably longer stints while not having much less performance than the Toyota.
Don't forget, Mclaren F1 GTR is also there, so much identity, icon, and beauty in 1998 year GT1 were

I would have loved for Toyota to get the victory in '99. That car and the Porsche showed how extreme the GT1 class could be. I don't feel as bad for Mercedes considering they won every race in the Sportscar Championship that year. I just wish we could have seen those three cars duking it out on track for a few more races.
If only Toyota & Nissan had competed in the FIA GT 1998 as well..
I would have loved to see that, it should have been a requirement of going to, Le Mans...

The GT1 98 is one of the greatest Porsches of all time. It looked simultaneously incredibly sexy, and menacing as hell. Like a bikini clad Kendall Jenner pointing a shotgun at you.

Because they were prototypes..
Porsche found a loophole in GT1 rules in 96, which meant that Porsche could make a prototype and compete under GT1 rules, as long as they made a road going version for the public.
That's the sole reason for cars like the 996 GT1 and CLK GTR, Nissan R390, ect.

You could with some of the older le mans prototypes, which some mad men has converted to road use.
Cars such as the Dauer 962 and Schuppan 962cr, there's even a couple of road legal Porsche 917!

You clearly don't watch le mans because Audi vs Porsche vs Toyota LMP1 gave us some of the best battles we have seen in years.Porsche miraculous victory in 2017 takes the cake.
