- We got him a new cat tree and I put it together but he almost immediately fell off of it (cat fail). I had to make a modification so that wouldn't happen again.

I think you should remodel this cat tree...being so highly skilled as you are it shouldn't be an issue, if you don't remodel it, maybe build your own, if you google custom cat trees the design ideas are incredible....worth a look, and definitely would make a great video to post on youtube.
You need a bigger one because he’s a big cat 😝. Or get a wider one so there is more room for him to jump. Even when he got up there there was no room 👍✊

Jute or Sisal rope wound around carpet tubing or a 4 x 4. - nice and tall for him to scratch. Cannabilze this one and make a better version!!!
Those store bought things are overpriced and poorly engineered. My ex husband made amazing cat towers.He wrapped construction tubing with rope and put large platforms at different levels. (three tubes, three platforms per one cat tower. He stabilized it by attaching it to a large enough base to prevent tipping.

If you remove one level, you should be able to remove the 3rd level and keep the top basket.

Mr Handy, you need to make something for your cat. If you can redo that kitchen and all that other stuff for your wife, surely you can do something for the meow.
it looks like it needs a strap, like u use to hold a fridge or furniture, like for earthquake-proofing.
I don’t think the middle column is screwed on tight enough, I had a problem with my cat tree wobbling too much at the top, but the one column was not screwed tight so it would wobble back and forth but we tightened it and it works better now
I bought one from Amazon I had to take down because it was unsturdy for my cats to be on. They loved being up high but the next one will be from the pet store and I will use some extra hardware to make sure it's sturdy.
You will need more smaller scrachers around just one in one spot wont solve the scraching problem

Dude that thing is too wobbly, and not big enough for him! (and there's no way for him to get up there). Poor baby. He needs a good SOLID cat tree, or some wall shelves that he can jump to and from - make it an "art" piece on that blank wall!

Cats need more than one scratching area. It doesn't have to be fancy. Husband made cubes covered in carpet inside and out, and rubbed with catnip. The cats had a cave they could hide in (one side had an opening to fit a large cat and was carpeted inside too) and perch on and scratch on to their hearts content. The cats learned to leave regular carpeting alone and only scratch the catnip scented cubes or their scratching post.

There was obviously cat nip impregnated in the sisal, and Gus definitely needs a bigger cat tree. With your skills I'm sure that you can add to the existing one and make it suitable for him.
Imagine, people that know nothing about cats, design these cat tree's. We have a different one for our 3 cats but it is equally badly designed. So, we found one with a well balanced design and good wide base and put the two side by side. Ben, it is time for you to design and build a better cat tree and share directions for the build with your viewers.

I have a cat tree too. Always wobbly and I screw it back together when it loosens. My cats use it as a leaping post and swing around it so of course it loosens.
Janine Harrison my cats do the same thing! I had to mount mine to the wall because they slam into it with so much force that the whole thing shifts and wobbles.

Meant for much lighter cats or kittens. We did the same thing, had to build it half as high to handle our cats.. Now we have a Trixie Belinda Cat Tree House ($146 on Amazon). Super beefy with 4 posts holding the 2nd and 3rd levels and two posts holding a larger bed on top. None of the plastic end-caps have broken. We'll only have to replace it due to the cats shredding the rope posts.
Catnip.....he will love it!!
We got one for a large cat for our kitten, Loki. It’s ceiling height and braces against the ceiling to stop that wobbling and prevent it from falling. Hopefully it will last him for years as he has plenty of space to move around.
I’m sure you could cannibalise this and make something much better.

That one does not look sturdy. Maybe for kittens. Poor design. Looks like it needs to be larger. He does need a cat this and scratching post or those card board scratch pads.

Idk if your still using this cat tree but I think I have a good suggestion to help stabilize the tree, you can get some small shelf brackets and attach them to buttons of the second highest perch and then if you don't want to make holes in you wall you can use those heavy duty commands stripes to attach the brackets to the wall.
Anyone else suspect that toy section Gus was so friendly with might be sprayed with catnip spray???

I am surprised that you can build one yourself and maybe that top to peace you can make a platform for it and then make a bridge between the scratching post and it would be away from the mantelpiece . I think tha that Guss is a little heavy for the scratching post tower . I was watching the guy that collects mousetraps and there's a trap that was a cannon with eye sensors and a mouse are going to the cannon and and be pushed out by compressed gases and launch them into a sheet and land in a bucket. So made you can make cat - a - pult ? Or not ! So geuss Guss is your son because he knows how the flip and land on his feet to .
I wish there was a better option instead of these posts, that design is bad good idea removing that top part.
My cat shreds that rope in a couple weeks until it unrolls off the post.
I have kept 2 old posts and plan on re building one using corn rope.
See if you can switch the scratch post at the top with a post from the bottom. Because he won't have enough leverage to scratch up high on that small pedestal.

maybe you should put the flat one in the higher spot and the blow shape one in the 2nd highest spot
attach the cat tree to the wall for safety, you could then have the bed back on the top for him, cats love to be high

I’ll definitely try switching a few things around in the future. He does seem to like the paw bed for now

Yes the middle part is to short needs to be made longer, new wood piece plat form ,more oval sharp then he has easier to jump on top... the people what created it,wasn't thinking through! The bed needs to put back on,just middle part renewed. You seems to be good in creating things,cats need a cat yree with a bed on top. You doing a great job,and how you are with cat! Thank you for sharing...

As a dog person, I thought this was hilarious, sorry. I don’t plan on buying a dog tree any time soon.
Because he is a big cat, he might need a heavy duty tree, if you look up Cat Tree King they have some pretty awesome trees built for heavy cats
We have a cat scratcher with a very thick base that has a metal weight inserted into it. It never budges or moves regardless of how crazy they are or how fast they jump at it.
