THIS is ANOTHER reason WHY I LOVE this album "BEATLES FOR SALE." "I DON'T WANT TO SPOIL THE PARTY" just CHEERS me up when I am down (which is often these days), even though it's lyrics are sad, but the MUSIC is so HAPPY, plus their harmonies. LOVE IT!!! I don't know HOW ANY ONE could NOT like/love this song!!

As with 'I'll Cry Instead' from their previous album "A Hard Days Night' I Don't want To Spoil the Party is another Lennon confessional. By this point John had fully adopted Bob Dylan's story telling style to his songwriting. Like I'm A Loser and the HELP! soundtrack song You've Got To Hide Your Love Away John shares his inner thoughts to the listener. All these songs revolve around an open G chord (very Dylanesque) George expertly taps his inner Chet Atkins again, as he did on I'm A Loser. Like Eight Days A Week and Little Child, John harmonizes with himself on the verses. RNB Hi Cim😘

"I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party" was the B-side to the U.S. release of "Eight Days a Week" in 1965. "I Wanna Be Your Man" was the song Lennon and McCartney wrote for The Rolling Stones in 1963. It was the Stones first big hit in the UK. The Beatles recorded it too, but this isn't that song.
This song shows the Beatles exploring their love of country and western music.. which would develop even further with Rubber Soul
This was Rosanne Cash's #1 hit in 1989 on the Billboard Country chart. I think this may be the only Beatles song to reach #1 on that chart.

Hmmm... to me, I DON'T WANT TO SPOIL THE PARTY is one of John's first 'adult' songs, and we'd see this as a transition from Early Beatles into Rubber Soul and Revolver... and beyond. NO REPLY and several others, as well.
