Great Video!!!
I have a 2016 Cardinal 5th Wheel.
Here's a quick breakdown of what I have....
- I have 3 panal on it now, but want to upgrade it.
- But the MFG, wiring only has the 2K inverter going to the residential Fridge.
- The factory wiring has the shore power comming in on the drivers side rear, and the circut breaker box in the rear bedroom.
- There's a 30 amp line comming from the braker box up front to a 30 amp Zantrex cutover box.
- There's a 2K inverter up front comming off 2 lead deap cycle batteries, which then go to the residential refrigerator in the kitchen.
- I don't believe the 50 Amp wireing goes up front.
I want to add about 2K in Solar to the roof, expand the batteries,
and install inverters up front, Like you.
Questioons in you have any ideas / opinions on ....
- Will I have to run the 50 Amp Shore power up front, and then run it back to the rear again
to the existing breaker box ?
- Did you have an issue like this ?
- Also would I be better off keeping the existing 50 Amp Wiring and put a 50 Amp Cutover box in at the rear,
and just run one 50 Amp line from the front back to the rear and the cutover box ?
i.e. the front powering the rear when not on shore power
What are your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.
Steve
Great video as always Chris! I did my install last week and put 1200 watts on the roof of my FR3. I used 3M vhb tape under the z-brackets along with thicker screws like you did. I used wire loom for all the 10 gauge on the roof as well. For a little extra security I used eterna-bond on the sides of the z-brackets where the bracket touches the side of the panel, just in case a bolt comes loose or something weird happens. In the two leading panels I was gonna build two air dams to move the air more fluidly over the panel under high wind, but instead I used eternabond again to close that air gap between the roof and the panels. It actually has a slight angle to the tape like an air dam would anyway so it worked out ok. I also watched your video on the Smart Start AC and installed two of those while I was up there. Thanks again for all the videos. Check out the SensorPush temp sensor and gateway for extra protection for your pups when Waggle doesn’t work due to lack of a nearby Verizon tower. Rock on!
Right on, great job, good off-grid times ahead 👍
Nice video and great info. Safe travels
Thank you 🙏🏻
Nice install and video!
Its all coming together. Nice job on the installation. Look forward to seeing how well it performs as well. I just got my multiplus II installed along with my cerbogx. Wired together and working woth the vrm. Still dont have batteries yet but some are on the way. Keep the videos coming !
Right on, Rome wasn’t built in a day, keep at it , you’ll get it done 👍
Wishyou success on your solar system looks awesome .
Check out true topper they replace fabric side toppers
We saw those, for the price we’ll stick to blow-packing.
Not regarding your install... just quality control observation... At 1:48+... look at all those useless staples, holding desperately onto... absolutely NOTHING!!! And manufacturers are surprised that we, the public, feel like they're building junk. That irritating squeak... that wall that just doesn't seem solid... etc, etc.
What other sloppiness is going on, perhaps with more critical systems?🤔
No Wonder so many folks choose to build their own these days.👍🏼✌🏼🇨🇦
(Victron also has a pretty good "Solar Calculator Tool" on their site... spreadsheet based so it too, does all the calculating for you)
Thanks for the input 👍
Your parts list has a 30 amp breaker, but that seems pretty close to the amps your panels could put out. I’ve even heard people mention in rare cases they’ll get more than the rated output from their panels. I’m going with a 40 amp breaker to stay safe.
10 gauge wire is only rated for 30 amps, max output should be 26 amps so theres another 4 amps of leeway, rather the breaker trip than wire or mc4 connection 🔥
@@saltytrips Yeah, I think it's super close. I thought the general recommendation was to size to ~125% of the current. You'll probably be fine, and if it did trip, you can always reset it.
What was the roof tape you were using vs EternaBond?

Amazing. I was a little unsure at the end of the video on how you connected the 5 panels from each side to go into the main box on the roof. I understand how 5 panels are done in a series but, how do you bring that all together? I can't wait to see how they perform in a power outage scenario and how long you can be off grid.
@8:49 shows the wiring diagram, thats exactly how I wired it.
@ 2:15 - do you have a link for the endoscope you used?
@@MYCHANNELWITHMYSTUFF sure thing amzn.to/4dGMdrg
@@saltytrips Thank you
If you dont mind me asking, why are you putting 2500watts of solar? That's more than double for what you and your wife would meed at most.
@@dennisandrews8485 tell me what our needs are 🤔… can’t wait to hear this…
