    Question regarding Temu, would you personally trust them if you were entering your own credit card data onto their site? It's one thing buying things on credit they give you, but personally I'd be worried giving them my data given their track record. If the price and quality of their products seems too good to be true, then perhaps they have other income streams related to data they gather from customers

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  5 месяцев назад +2

      I use PayPal or some other payment processor for any site that accepts it. Pretty much negates the issue. As far as the products, they seemed similar to other stuff you’d see at Harbor Freight or Northern Tool, and when you consider they’re probably adding another 100% margin, basically doubling the price, the prices seem fairly in line.

    • @Phobosandpanic

      @@craftedworkshop hey thanks for the reply. Maybe my mistrust of their low prices actually says more about how other stores have been price gouging and hiding behind inflation as an excuse the last couple of years. But Temu have had a lot of negative press, so I'm curious to hear other's personal experiences. For me the jury is out so far.

    That's some heavy duty wires. On my last car stereo build I used one gauge power and ground wires mainly to minimize the voltage drop over certain distances including current constrictions

    • @EXPLORISTlife
      @EXPLORISTlife 5 месяцев назад +2

      No doubt! Our 3000VA inverter Pulling power from a 12V battery bank could theoretical be asking for 250 Amps! So to keep our voltage drop to a minimum (well below 3%) as well as DC ripple, we used those big 4/0 wires.

    PROTECT the solar outlet with some butyl tape , best to use the one with aluminium foil on one side ...but you can also use just butyl tape (or liquid butyl in tubes like silicon) or put some cooking aluminium foil on it (only tape , in case of butyl sealers intubes just find one with aluminium powder in it , its used for roofing , easly last 20+ years like new) , will work the same (even only butyl) protecting from uv degradation (that in case of epoxy takes like few months up to 5y depending of exposure time etc)

    • @EXPLORISTlife
      @EXPLORISTlife 5 месяцев назад

      We definitely see people choosing the Multiplus over the ii for that reason. The original Multiplus is fatter, but it's also shorter which seems to fit better in most installs.

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  5 месяцев назад

      The Multiplus 2 seems more intended for residential work since you can feed power back to the grid. The Multiplus definitely does everything needed on your typical van project. You could probably sell yours and swap the units easily enough.

    Nice overview of an electric installation. One common misconception though; you can't compare amp-hours with each other when the voltage is unknown or different. Watt-hours (Wh) is the best way to express capacity. I believe DeWalt is 18V and your battery 12V? so 18x5=90Wh and 270*12*2=6480Wh. So by far not 100 DeWalt batteries, but 72 to be exact. Ah is technically more correct since voltage can vary very slightly but in this case Wh is more informative. I know everybody get's this wrong, but there are 12v and 24v systems which are incopmarable and when you get into EV's there is no standard voltage at all, hence they always measure capacity in (k)Wh

    • @EXPLORISTlife
      @EXPLORISTlife 5 месяцев назад +1

      Watt Hours definitely paints a more clear picture of battery storage capacity, but we have to use Amp Hours in all of our educational content as that is what is more commonly used in the industry. If battery manufacturers mutually agreed to sticker their batteries in watt hours instead of amp hours 40 years ago when they started making deep cycle batteries; this would be a non-issue today, but since that's not the case we have to roll with amp hours.
      Interestingly enough; typically... in 48V systems... it's MUCH more *common* to refer battery bank capacity in terms of watt hours for whatever reason.
      We've got a video about this subject and the fact that a 100Ah 24V battery bank is twice as large as a 100Ah 12V battery bank on our channel titled something along the lines of "Understanding Amp Hours".

    I reckon you might have issues with the “chaise” ground being grounded to the sheet metal not the frame of the car

    • @EXPLORISTlife
      @EXPLORISTlife 5 месяцев назад +2

      He won't have issues with that chassis ground, no. In fact... in this system, that chassis ground is only in place as a catastrophic safety failure point back to b- and it will not be carrying current in normal system operations. All designed b- current carrying conductors are actual wires and we don't rely on the chassis to carry currents except in a fault/safety situation in which the sheet metal of the van is the most important part to be the chassis ground.

    Those DC cables are such an overkill, dude. under no normal conditions would you ever pull nowhere even near the amperage that would require such cable gauge.

    • @EXPLORISTlife
      @EXPLORISTlife 5 месяцев назад +2

      The DC cables are actually appropriately sized for their use and the manufacturers recommendation for the equipment installed. The 250A that could be asked for from the inverter + the DC fuse panel which is rated for 100A required some big wire; and to keep Voltage drop, resistance, and DC ripple to a minimum (and stay up to spec of manufacturers recommendations) we need to use those big 4/0 wires. So no... that aren't 'such an overkill, dude'. 🙂👍

  • @Torbox1
    @Torbox1 5 месяцев назад

    9:35 that is a terrible ground, you have basically no metal to metal contact because of the paint. You should have sanded off the paint before even installing the riv-nut. You might have some continuity but it will spike in resistance as soon as that ground carries any load.
    Hopefully the alternator chargeback circuit has an isolator so it doesn't draw down the factory battery when the van is turned off. I also don't see an exhaust for that diesel heater, hopefully it is just going through the floor when it can't be seen on video.

    • @EXPLORISTlife
      @EXPLORISTlife 5 месяцев назад +2

      That chassis ground is just fine for what we are using it for. We aren't asking it to carry current and is only there for catastrophic faults to ground so voltage drop doesn't matter there.
      The Orion DC DC charger does indeed have engine shutdown detection built in so there is no risk of draining the engine starting battery when it is off.
