- Hey friends! So excited to share that I bought the Red Komodo. This video is more of an update than anything else, but I hope you'll enjoy!
What do you think about the second angle? Nikon kindly provided us their Z8 mirrorless cam and the Z lens lineup to test.

Happy for you!! Welcome to the RED family!!
Thank you! :)
Happy to see the algorithm working to show
Me new creators! Happy for you! Cant wait to see what you make with it
Thanks so much Joshua! I’m so surprised to see this video performing so well, it’s really motivating though!
Filming a passion piece with the Komodo next month, so will document the whole process- really excited!
I've just been watching Red Komodo videos and I'm so grateful to have found such a gem. I looked at your instagram and then your work and I am fascinated. Great work!
Thank you so much for this comment! Really brightens up my day :)
I recently got my Komodo too! Excited for you 😁
Hey Kofi! Thanks so much! I know… you got that X setup going! We’re actually editing some of that footage right now haha 😁
Ace buddy! Vibez
Just ran across your channel. Love this video. In the last 6+months I've found that seeking out the channels that are "smaller" and growing are so much more enjoyable to watch. Seems SO much more genuine. Good luck on everything moving forward and you gained another SUB! Also, always looking to collab with new creators...
Hey! Appreciate you stopping by and leaving this kind message! More interesting videos are coming up soon! Thanks! :)
Great video, Aya! Looking forward to see your future projects, so excited for you! 👏
Thanks so much for the support!!
Congrats! I got a Komodo this past spring and I’ve loved it!
That’s awesome! Congrats! I’m so looking forward to incorporating it into more projects
Congrats on the new cam! Always feels fun 👏🏻
For sure! I’m currently rigging it up and I feel like a kid in a candy store when opening all the packages haha
Congraaaats!!🎉 can’t wait to see what you are gonna creat it with it💪🏼
Ahh thank you! So excited!! 😁😁
Wow awesome stuff! Great deal you got with super timing! Congratulations! A fantastic and flexible tool! I am loving my Komodo and armed with good lighting and staging absolutely nothing left to be desired. People with money to burn will always be aching for the next slightly updated camera as if the one before it was absolute trash. The companies love and fuel the insecurity and mostly uninformed buying decisions made by consumers. No colour shift issues that can’t be resolved with 1 or two taps of the printer lights in Davinci so loving with raw files in resolve. I’m not a sports shooter so don’t care to shoot slow motion etc. interesting point though. If you were to ask a person how much slow motion they shoot with concerns of frame rates and resolutions, the answers usually don’t add up since true slow motion cams can be rented for those rare dream sequence shots or motorbike wheels spinning dirt at the camera but hey maybe there are more action sports shooters out there then I know… hm.. to each their own. The price difference between the OG Komodo and the X can buy some pretty awesome lighting or lens that will make dramatically more of a difference than slightly better pre amps for scratch audio or colour that a colourist could negate as well but what do I know? Coming from photography, the camera and sensor race is never ending but the same rings true with lens making bigger difference than sensor and lighting in most cases making the bigger difference to even the lens (quality)choice. Planning and post processing is everything.
Follow the traffic lights, stay below the lines for shadows, never go above the lines, and you will clip high lights. Red is very forgiving in shadows, not high lights. Happy filming
So happy for you !!
Is there a reason to buy original Komodo instead of the X?
How z8 compares for videomaking to your cameras?
I noticed you shot with a C200, why don’t you go with the C70?
That’s a good question hah! The C200 was my first cinema camera that I learned on and shot quite a few short docs on. Now I only use it for YT talking heads and it doesn’t really leave my office. I’m thinking of getting the FX3 instead, but will see.
hi, congratulations on buying a new camera) I’m also going to buy myself a red one soon. Great shots and good luck to you)
Hi! Thanks so much! Which one are you eyeing?
Red komoda x, I want the white version, but they may have already run out while I'm saving up money😅@@lostinayaland
@@koshelev_dop ahh fingers crossed you manage to snag one!!
Congratulations. Why not red komodo x?
There seems to be an ongoing misconception about Netflix. Only if Netflix hires you to shoot a Netflix project does it matter what camera you use. If you film a very good movie/doc with a camera that is not approved by Netflix, Netflix will still show the movie/doc if they like it. Steve Soderbergh's movie, "High Flying Bird", was shot on an iPhone. The movie was released on Netflix on February 8, 2019.
That being said, the Komodo X is the first Red camera I'm considering on getting. As a low budget filmmaker, I need a camera that boots up quickly. The Komodo X can boot up in a matter of seconds, which I'm sure you're aware of. Being able to set up a camera and shoot quickly is important for low budget productions. So, the Komodo X is a great choice for filmmakers of all budget levels.
Hey! Appreciate you explaining. I do know that, I guess my point is that it helps when clients see things that way. And if you let’s say film a passion project on the Komodo, chances of then a high end stock platform licensing your footage are higher with a camera of this level.
Yes, boot up time is important for run and gun setups. I guess it’s good that you can hot swap batteries and then you don’t have to turn if off at all. But still for me the Komodo will be more of a set setup / productions that are planned.
We started with the same 3 cameras. T3i, 5D (mine was mk2) and then Sony a7ii
Congrats!!!! I just got an fx3 but I’m wishing I got a red Komodo instead though!
Thank you!! Don’t be sorry - the fx3 is such a powerful camera. I was actually on the verge between the two, but then a friend called me that he was selling the komodo and it was just too good of a deal 😀
@@lostinayaland awww I know! I find the menus annoying though! There’s just something about it I’m not clicking with. Maybe I need to just persevere!
How are you finding the red? I subscribed by the way! I want to connect with more filmmakers on RUclips :D
some RUclipsrs film on Red Komodo product reviews 😂😂😂 and then 90% of people watch it on their phone screens🤣🤣🤣 Well, who can stop a rich man from having fun?
Congrats!
Thank youuu!
Can u please say which camera and lens you used for shooting this video
Sure! I used my Sony A7iii with 16-35 f4 lens. And Nikon gave us the Z8 to test so we used it as a Bcam for the interview.
Very jealous lol hire me so I can buy one myself
Haha! Would love too!!
How could you pull off Nikon to send you cameras with 944 subscribers? Anyway the footage looks good on the Z8.
They reached out to me after the launch video I did for Zhiyun, which is to prove that numbers don’t matter that much, if the work you’re putting out is what brands are looking for :)
@@lostinayaland yeah, you have a nice portfolio here, no doubt.
Your wish is my command. BUTTTTTTTTT WHYY didnt you buy the komodo-x? :)
Haha love that! Well… because the price of the OG Komodo dropped with the X release and for my needs it ticked most of the boxes and I went for it 😀
