Definitely not a dated design. In fact, I just picked up a USP Compact 9mm, even though HK has more modern options available. It's tried and true, ultra-reliable and just plain looks cool.
The USP is one of the best fire arms (next to the Mark23) HK ever built. It is a TANK and eats anything you feed it. As much as I love the HK45, P30, VP9, in my opinion there are not built as the USP. New is not always better. Great Vid once again agree 100%
USP is still top tier. Plenty new designs can’t come close in durability. The USP was ahead of it’s time. Buy one and you will be in the CLUB OF NO RETURN.
I just started my H&K experience a little over a year ago, thanks mostly to your influence. Always enjoy your reviews and commentary . MERRY CHRISTMAS DD. AND THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE !!!!
P30 V4 LEM w/ GG SRS gives it a run for its money. Easily the two greatest handguns. (The P7M13 is tied w/ them, but it’s über-rare and requires much more maintenance.)
The rail is outdated and needs to be standardized to the rest. I'd prefer a steel or titanium rail molded into the frame. The real question is, is the shooter ready for the H&K USP. It's accuracy might be wasted on a few. It's over engineered design and space age finish is wasted on range only shooters. I have a Mark 23 that I only shoot +p and 45 super through, it only modification is a recoil spring with a few extra pounds on it. It always works, it never rusted, it never broke. It's the gun I would use first and last. It's design is a classic. It's trigger pull is superb. It's recoil management is second to none. I believe anyone saying that the H&K USP is outdated never shot one, or requires 100% perfection.
over engineered ? hell i play this game where it disassemble and assembly gun until its barebone ( World of Gun : Gun Disassemble, very recommended they even has M2 HMG and that thing is pain in the ass) this pistol is one the easy one, easier than sig p228, hell its easier than 1911
dat hk45c mag release tho...... USP's are fantastic. They are a bit blocky when compared to the likes of the p30 or hk45 but that by no means makes them terrible. If blocky was a terrible thing no one would own Glocks.
I just picked up my USP45! Your opinions in your reviews were invaluable in making my decision. Love your content! Your honesty and no BS assessment of things is refreshing and sure appreciate your professional insight. I work for DEERS and have a lot of admiration for our service men and women. Stay safe on your deployment and can't wait for you to come home and make more great vids! Thanks for your service!
I purchased my HK USP 40 FS in 2001 and it would be cool having a Surefire light sit flush with the barrel. Or have Magpul offer a magazine. 15 years of shooting different brand ammo with zero failures is way more important than accessories. My next purchase will be another 40 and 45 USP. Great videos DevilDolphin! I'm looking forward to the next one
I recently bought a 1996 USP 9C and love it. I totally want a full sized 45 like your "wife" to have for a "bad day" or just a range day. Keep up the great videos!
Timeless classic! Still my favorite pistol I choose to shoot 98% of the time hitting the range. Only thing I wish they upgraded was the picatinny rail to possibly allow more light bearing holster options available. But then again keeping it true to it's original design is a +2! 👍👍
Very nice video - I have enjoyed the H&K USP series of pistols ever since their introduction, and agree with the points you make. Although there are many other fine semi-autos that may have more modern features (like the standard accessory rail), the USP continues to be a top contender in my book. They are tough and rugged, accurate, and just plain fun to shoot. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!
I've never owned an HK product but I would probably buy a USP if/when I ever do. I feel like it's one of those classic designs and aesthetically it's very appealing. Also, it'll still kill shit good, like you said lol. Good video. I enjoy your work sir.
Thank you. Your spot on being annoyed with Silly people talking about obsolescence, and arguing points about pistol features when they never owned the model being discussed. Basement dwelling adolescents. Sorry they spoil the beauty of H&K designs, quality, heritage, beautiful craftsmanship. Its best to not give any air time to such nonsense. Ignore the poseurs. Great topic and presentation 👍 👍CD, 72, New Hampshire. Go ! Army !
love the videos bro great work...I have a question tho. I have a full size usp 9mm. I was thinking about doing the jet funnel upgrade but I'm going to have to buy all new mags which can get expensive. my question is do you feel its worth doing the upgrade considering the cost?
I used to have a HK USP Elite in .45acp, it shot incredibly accurate and everybody that fired it thought it was chambered in 9mm due to the light recoil. I sold it because it just didn't fit my hand well but such an amazing pistol.
The USP is pure engineering genius. The ergos are unrivaled and the construction epitomizes what every polymer gun should be. Now i just need to get one...a .40 compact!
Local city PD used the USP 45s since '00-07. 7 years with positive praise. And I know cops that still use one today. I remember there was a guy on here that is a ME Trooper that carried the USP for years then switched to the HK45 and he still preferred the USP. There is no denying the USP is a proven pistol. Now I miss mine, LOL ahhhhhh
Love my USP's Hands down my favorite pistols! I don't think they are outdated, just wish they would do something where they keep the base platform and just update it as the years go on kinda like Glock Gen1 Gen 2 and so on!
What about the question in terms of a new buyer for HK. I am looking at the USP Compact vs. the P30. I would be getting in 9mm for concealed carry. Already have Glocks and Sigs so looking to adding an HK to the rotation. Seems like it is pretty hard to find good iwb p30 holsters?
This same topic was asked today on the forum. I can't believe anyone who is a member of HKpro would even ask this question lol. What did they expect to hear
a gun that lasts forever is never outdated. just new accessories and new ways of doing things. i upgraded from the p2000sk to the p30sk and i miss my 2000sk. lol so i just may need them both but ill prob get the p2000fs so i can have both. never had the usp but i know it well. other than the mark23 there really is very little difference. same guns with very little style differences. my favorite is now the p2000 for its size and style. no different than the usp really tho. just the rail and fit of hand grip. i say hold them all in your hand with your eyes closed until you find your fit and feel. hk hammer fire for life!!! no compromise!!!!
I think the main reason people say this is because it has a larger, blockier look and grip compared to the slick looking, more ergonomic friendly P30, HK45 and VP series. While the USP .45's round magazine capacity isn't the greatest at 12 rounds, but that's still 2 more rounds than the newer HK45 holds as well a the Sig P227 with standard mags, and only 1 round less than a Glock 21. So I certainly don't think it's magazine capacity makes it outdated. The only guns in .45 that seem to have a significantly higher mag capacity in .45 are the FNX-45 and maybe 1 or 2 other lesser known guns as far as I'm aware. I really want a HK45, but I'd like a USP .45 as well. I shot a USP .45 once and shot it much better than I thought I would given the USP grip and my (somewhat small) hands. Now I may still do better with an HK45 or Sig P227, but I still shot the USP fairly well, certainly good enough to be proficient with it.
OH NOES! You waved around your Jet Funnel USP while it was cocked- WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!! Haha, jk! Good video. To my mind the USP isn't 'obsolete' it's classic. There are some things that could be updated or improved by HK. One is the rail; yeah, if it was 1913 that would be great. And I suppose having a backstrap you could swap would be a bonus. However I'm one of the lucky ones I guess, I find it fits me perfectly. Aside from the cost of tooling there's maybe another reason HK doesn't update the gun- they don't want to cannibalize sales of their newer models. As much as I love my P30S, P2000, VP9, P30L, etc I may well have just bought three or four USPs if they had added new features. Okay, we've established that some people just love to bitch. But there is one potential complaint that's legit- the mags. I've never had any issues while actually using or carrying a USP but I have had instances where dropping one causes a round to "flip" or invert in the mag. This is uncommon but I have never had it happen with the steel mag of the USP45 Tactical, nor the P2000/P30 mag. This is corrected in the newer plastic-over-steel Jet Funnel mags. Still, the plastic mag is the closest thing to a weakness I can honestly attribute to the USP. I too believe that the USP will endure as long as HK does. Let's hope that's a long while!
I'd rather H&k make a new light for the USP opposed to updating it with a 1913 rail. I'm happy it's gone unchanged. My only concern is the durability of the GG&G adapters. I've heard there have been some issues with them failing while using heavier lights like the X300, which is unfortunate since I'm a big fan of that weapon light.
The gun still fires a contemporary round with a comparable rate of fire. Therefore, it isn't outdated. Most people use "outdated" to knock features and aesthetics that don't fit with the latest fad. That is an incorrect usage. Outdated needs to refer to how well a weapon works with the tactics being used by the belligerents. An army equipped with Mosin-Nagants isn't outdated against an army using swords.
Is the USP outdated? Not even close. 10 years from now, still will be a top, go to, pistol. It’s reliable, it’s accurate and it’s durable. No it doesn’t have optic ready cuts but honestly, irons sights will do just fine. Long live the USP
Is your usp cerakoted? If so what variation of tan is that? It looks a little darker than fde. I have a usp 45 expert and I am thinking about having the frame cerakoted in coyote tan or scorched earth. Thanks, J
Honestly, yes. But the flat spring with the nylon buffer does a good job. The USP full size guns have a very unique and smooth recoil impulse. Spoils you for other guns really.
What brand/make is that rail adapter? Where did you get it? Every adapter I've seen adds too much bulk. That one looks perfect, as I run all TLR-1 HL lights.
Is the HK45 not safe to fire an extremely low round count of 45 Super out of? I can’t seem to get a straight forward answer about the matter Also, what rail adaptor would you recommend for making an X300U to a USP?
On my USP45 I use the GG&G rail. I haven't run 45 super through the HK45. I think she'll take it but not a steady diet. You'll have to replace the recoil spring at about 500 rounds I think if you're running it.
This is a Flawless Oration of this Platform........ The USP is an Heirloom FIREARM that Equals the M1911A1 in Function and Longevity...... Thank you for your VIDEOS.
THIS IS AN OBSOLETE GRIP BLEH BLUH BLIH BLIP hahahahahahahaha! the usp is not only still relevant, but classic and id say iconic. i like the p30 and hk45 series but i think im getting old and shitty and i like the guns from when i first started buying guns. i like short external extractor, non railed, german framed sigs. i like usp's. i like 1911's. i like cz75's. i like 9mm but i love .45. i own a dreaded .40 barrel and .357sig barrel for my 226 and a 9mm conversion barrel. i like beretta's especially now that theyre selling g conversion parts. ill grab a p30, p30sk, another vp9 (already sold mine, should have kept it), 45c, and 45 tactical as funds become available. not gonna lie though, if a uspc 9mm comes up when i have the money that would be priority one. oh yeah, i even prefer the older gen 3 glocks with the old finish and i prefer the 17 to the 19 but i carry a gen 4 19 all the time and it works. my cousin still likes mac 11's and tec9's....HES TRIPPIN. THOSE guns are obsolete lol. but theyre cool to him so more power to him. nutnfancy's son tactical doodle carries a walther ppk because its cool to him. i aint even mad at that
I think any gun less than 20 years old is one not worth buying. It takes time to work out the kinks, and best if they are found through rigorous use by a military. A gun is not a car, if your car breaks down, sit on the side of the road and wait for help. If a gun breaks when you need it that could be fatal.
My normal FFL dealer tried to talk me out of getting one saying “why do you want such an outdated gun?” I ended going to another shop that ordered me a USP 9. Now I own 3 USPs, one of each caliber hahaha...
To me the standard for polymer handguns was set by the USP and the glock. And im not a glock fan and i dont own any glocks. I do however own a usp combat competition 9mm with the jetfunnel setup.. ive owned most all polymer frame "cool" guns and own none of them now.. i can shoot whatever i want in any kind of rush with my usp.. coolest by far handgun i have ever owned. Period
Unfortunately you can't. Once you equip the Jet Funnel, all you can use is Jet Funnel mags. But I will tell you, the JF mags are outstanding, and you won't want to use anything else.
Wampa It’s all a matter of preference. I’ve tried a lot of different ones over the years. I checked out the.45, VP 9, P30L, and the USP. I ended up with the USP 9 lem addition. Love the jet funnel, 18 rounds, and very short trigger reset. A lot of my decision was the trigger pull that did it for me, nice n short and light! I found a H+K rail adapter, and put a Olight Baldr Pro on it and it’s perfect!
No it is not obsolete it is still very relevant with the low rail GG&G mount its made the USP more relevant now then ever if HK would upgrade the frame for standard rail system the sales would surpass the HK VP9 and HK45.
The only thing outdated is the rail. Outdated typically applies to something that’s inefficient by modern standards. For example 1911s are a lot more maintenance than more modern polymer framed guns. The USP vs P30/HK45 is a personal preference in how they shoot and ergos.
@FrankMaster73 completely agree there. I've shot my best groups ever with a 1911. But I ran out of ammo, an HK45 or USP 45 makes more sense for that application. I will probably get a DW Specialist in black at some point. Because it's all forged and not WC or Night Hawk money.
I think besides the new(er) pistols from Ruger, S&W, Walther, Kel Tec, FNX, Kahr... The USP is right there... being middle aged. All the other popular models Glock, Sig P2xx, PPK, 1911's, CZ 75 are old(er)
Nope. It’s THE SHTF weapon. The 1911 is however, hence the 2011. The ONLY thing I don’t like is the grip. The capacity isn’t an issue... 17,18,20 rounds adds weight and really isn’t necessary. 12 - 15 rounds is more than enough and maintains that sweet spot and n weight
HE'LL NO. I got my first USP9 (da/sa) about a year ago and quickly then got another one in lite LEM and live that thing my favorite pistol. I even sold a P30L to get another one and a VP9. I also have a Zev Glocl and I prefer my USP to that. And even after all these years and new technology the USP series is still considered Uber fucking reliable and accurate. And this is personal but they are aesthetically gorgeous. You can customize to your own favorite trigger configuration. And people who say they are not ergonomic BS, I'm a small dude and I can shoot this great along with Glocks. And nothing against Glocks they are good for what they are, but the USP series is equal at the least if not better than any other modern pistol ever. Oh and if you don't like them good, that why I keep finding at amazing deals in these used with a lonely at hazing few hundred rounds through them.
"If there was some way to blend a racecar and a tank, that is the USP" best way to describe it!
Rob Ryan the 911 of guns. There’s a version for everyone.
I was looking for 1 today usp 45 would be awesome
The USP is a timeless classic. Beautiful lines, built like a tank and built to run all day.
I wouldn't call it timeless, there are aspects of it that are a bit outdated.
A classic but not timeless.
That's when the HK P30 and Hk 45 come in.
It's, in my opinion, a HK gateway drug lol
Oh it absolutely is.

I just started my H&K experience a little over a year ago, thanks mostly to your influence. Always enjoy your reviews and commentary . MERRY CHRISTMAS DD. AND THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE !!!!
BEST COMBAT HANDGUN.....PERIOD
Yup
P30 V4 LEM w/ GG SRS gives it a run for its money. Easily the two greatest handguns. (The P7M13 is tied w/ them, but it’s über-rare and requires much more maintenance.)
The usp is my favorite gun. If I'd of found it first I'd probably only own Hk pistols. I need a two tone like that! Great vid. Merry Christmas
The rail is outdated and needs to be standardized to the rest. I'd prefer a steel or titanium rail molded into the frame. The real question is, is the shooter ready for the H&K USP. Haha dumb
dat hk45c mag release tho......
USP's are fantastic. They are a bit blocky when compared to the likes of the p30 or hk45 but that by no means makes them terrible. If blocky was a terrible thing no one would own Glocks.

3 years later. The answer is still no.
6 years later. The answer is still no.
Finest combat sidearm ever created. Epitome of " No Compromise " ps. My EDC is a full size Usp 9mm V1
It's an awesome pistol, but we need a "USP 2.0." IMO.
HK would probably just point to the P30 and say there it is xD
that would be the hk45
The HK P30 and HK 45 is your "USP 2.0".
@ItalianBrownsFAN
Yes, it is it. How am I wrong?
Or you're probably attempting to troll me...

The USPc's & USPs are among my favorite pistols. Absolute bomb-proof tanks that just run.
I've never once had a performance issue with a USP or USPc. They run, and run well. Capable of making some nice groups too.

I've had The USP .40 compact for 21 years now and still my favorite pistol
I'm in California so all my guns are outdated
I feel your pain. Los Angeles here.
Feel your pain man. We get what we can as gun owners.

The gun range I work at has the USP .45 for rent and it's one of the top most requested firearms to rent

Whew! Picked up my first H&K, a USP45 grey frame last month, I'd be awfully disappointed if it went obsolete on me. ;)
You've got all my respect man
P.S: USP Tactical is my favorite pistol my go to war sidearm !

Right on brother!!!! Great video!!!!
This same topic was asked today on the forum. I can't believe anyone who is a member of HKpro would even ask this question lol. What did they expect to hear
It's funny because I shot this in November, and kept it in the can. I just uploaded it to upload it, then I saw the thread. Hilarious.
perfect timing man
I'm curious on your opinion on the Army choosing the Sig Sauer P320 as its new sidearm?
Excellent review.
Why the Streamlight instread of surefires for you? I got one of the 1st TLR2G lights that came out and its incredible almost 4 yrs later.

Bedside gun. USP 9, thousands of rounds with zero malfunctions. Legendary. Wish I would’ve got more when I had the chance.
Any holster recommendations for a usp 9 with a tlr1 on it?
2024 and the USP is still the best semi auto ever made
I have Three USP’s USP9 LEM USP40 Compact and a USP40 Full size. Best handguns in the business. Built like tanks.

It is actually a factory color. IT's HK's "tan" color.
If you had to choose between a USP LEM in 9mm, or the VP9 which would you choose and why?
Thanks
USP no contest
Nice gun. Thing is, how do you reach the light?
The USP never goes out of style

I have had a few guns over the years, my USP .40 is the only one I have never sold or traded.
I own multiple H&K's. The VP9 is my EDC. The USP 45 is on my battle belt.
What is the year of that USP? I have one just like it... AE or 2004
What brand/make is that rail adapter? Where did you get it? Every adapter I've seen adds too much bulk. That one looks perfect, as I run all TLR-1 HL lights.
www.gggaz.com/hk-usp-picatinny-rail-flashlight-mounts.html
Is the HK45 not safe to fire an extremely low round count of 45 Super out of? I can’t seem to get a straight forward answer about the matter
Also, what rail adaptor would you recommend for making an X300U to a USP?
On my USP45 I use the GG&G rail. I haven't run 45 super through the HK45. I think she'll take it but not a steady diet. You'll have to replace the recoil spring at about 500 rounds I think if you're running it.
I have a USP 9 that's over 20 years old, with about 10,000 plus rounds through it...and it never fails.
The USP is just fine. Outdated is a 1911 or anything else that is full sized but still gives you less than 10 rounds.
This is a Flawless Oration of this Platform........
The USP is an Heirloom FIREARM that Equals the M1911A1 in Function and Longevity......
Thank you for your VIDEOS.
Just a lil chunky, but still great
THIS IS AN OBSOLETE GRIP BLEH BLUH BLIH BLIP hahahahahahahaha!
the usp is not only still relevant, but classic and id say iconic. i like the p30 and hk45 series but i think im getting old and shitty and i like the guns from when i first started buying guns.
i like short external extractor, non railed, german framed sigs. i like usp's. i like 1911's. i like cz75's. i like 9mm but i love .45. i own a dreaded .40 barrel and .357sig barrel for my 226 and a 9mm conversion barrel. i like beretta's especially now that theyre selling g conversion parts. ill grab a p30, p30sk, another vp9 (already sold mine, should have kept it), 45c, and 45 tactical as funds become available. not gonna lie though, if a uspc 9mm comes up when i have the money that would be priority one. oh yeah, i even prefer the older gen 3 glocks with the old finish and i prefer the 17 to the 19 but i carry a gen 4 19 all the time and it works.
my cousin still likes mac 11's and tec9's....HES TRIPPIN. THOSE guns are obsolete lol. but theyre cool to him so more power to him. nutnfancy's son tactical doodle carries a walther ppk because its cool to him. i aint even mad at that
i have the opportunity to get a usp 9 with 7 mags and trijicon ns. for 750 is that a good deal? the gun was shot very little
That's a great price for what it comes with.
I think any gun less than 20 years old is one not worth buying. It takes time to work out the kinks, and best if they are found through rigorous use by a military. A gun is not a car, if your car breaks down, sit on the side of the road and wait for help. If a gun breaks when you need it that could be fatal.
Ok, a little late to the show (2016 vid), what type of rail adapter you got there?
That is a GGG 1913 rail.
Where's part 1?????
Period
I don’t own a USP I probably will never own a USP… But I know they’re of quality and they will not be outdated for a long time
also can you convert the regular usp mags to work with the jet funnel
Unfortunately you can't. Once you equip the Jet Funnel, all you can use is Jet Funnel mags. But I will tell you, the JF mags are outstanding, and you won't want to use anything else.
USP is badass and I would love to have one, but can’t see why I would buy one over a P30 or P30L unless it was just to say I have a usp
The full size USP45 is the finest handgun of all time.
No it is not obsolete it is still very relevant with the low rail GG&G mount its made the USP more relevant now then ever if HK would upgrade the frame for standard rail system the sales would surpass the HK VP9 and HK45.
Lol in a world where 10 round 45s are prevalent. YES. I go H&k usp because it’s more durable than the fnx. End of story
I agree with all of that!
I LOVE MY USP's.
I love my "race-tanks!!!"
They're outstanding.
USP is still THE Best HK offers imho
Would love to give it a try
Definitely a fine firearm.
Just needs to be ambidextrous and a modern picatinny rail, and it'll be fine.
I still use a revolver, so I would say this is not obsolete.
Greatest pistol ever made.
The only thing outdated is the rail. Outdated typically applies to something that’s inefficient by modern standards.
For example 1911s are a lot more maintenance than more modern polymer framed guns.
The USP vs P30/HK45 is a personal preference in how they shoot and ergos.
Completely agree.
@@navyman8903 not that 1911s are pointless. They are an ergonomic masterpiece. But they absolutely have drawbacks.
I wish HK would make a 10mm version of the USP.
There is no cooler gun I bought an hk 45c and want to trade it in for a USPc just don’t know if I want a 9mm or .45 again
The USP is a gun you can go to war with. I have a full size and a compact and I can’t think of any gun better made than the USP
They make the frame in FDE ?????? or is it coated or painted??
It's a poured frame, not coated or painted. They did OD Green, and Urban Gray also.
@@navyman8903 Aw okay here in denmark they only have black xD
Longer answer is: USP line will never be outdated!!!
Kind of sad you mentioned the 9mm and 45.. I'm a weirdo .40 guy and the usp 40 is my favorite semi auto pistol made
Why don’t those same people ask if the Sig P226, Beretta 92, or 1911 outdated? Lol
Anser, "Hell NO"
