It's a really solid track. I REALLY want to use Gunship "Dark all day" but that would have to be for a quality video I have yet to produce. With production quality that is above my capabilities.
Yeah I still have my old gen 3 17 RTF model (fish gills and all lol) it was one of the first handguns I ever purchased. I will never sell it but I still never run it anymore. I stopped using it long ago once I figured out what proper ergonomics and grip angle are.
Fucking solid, know your not the biggest Glock fan so really respect the fair shake you gave this and that you found a model that works for you. Thanks for the vid as usual.
I bought my Gen 5.5 G17 after watching your video "G17 is the best Glock". I already had a Gen 5.5 G45(which I absolutely love and I've put a couple thousand rounds through). I like the gun but I gotta say the trigger that came in mine was nowhere near as good as my G45 trigger which seems to be a uniquely good Glock trigger. So I took another bit of your Glock advice and switched it out for an Overwatch precision trigger. I also bought a 5lbs striker spring just for shits and giggles and even though I've been shooting mostly low/mid quality reman ammo I haven't had even a single malfunction. Even with all the Overwatch precision parts and the lighter striker spring my G45 trigger(which is completely stock) is still significantly better. Part of it is that I have more rounds through the gun, but part of it is that its just way, way better and it was better right out of the box. I still love my G17 but my G45 is my baby. I put a red dot on it which I know you don't like but dude personally I really love it and I am much faster with it although I left my G17 with irons so that I'd have a similarly sized gun to practice iron sights with. Currently I am running Ameriglo Hackathorn sights on my G17 but will probably trade them out for something else because imo they're just too low. I prefer the height of something like Ameriglo Idot pro's. I may try Trijicon HDs or something idk.
That's how my buddy's one 17 it. Hyper smooth and feels great. But his others have been not that consistent. He also has a G45 with an excellent trigger. I hate how hit and miss they are. Overwatch is the only trigger I'll use so I'm hoping it cleans this one up like it cleaned my Gen 4 34 up. But we'll see. And I might get better with dots one day but idk why it's been a struggle for me. Well I do, but when I get nods here soon, I'll have at least 1 or 2 pistols with a dot.
@@navyman8903 I know a guy who can do it(mill for an RMR or Holosun) in like 3 days but he doesn't have the ability to nitride it, he can blue the area where it was milled or cerakote it which is what I opted for. Cost me $80 due to a black Friday deals but I am really happy with it. When my cerakote starts wearing I'll just have it redone or nitrided by Jagerwerks or something when their lead time is lower. I ended up going with an RMR cuz I wanted my first dot to be very durable and I am glad I did because I accidentally dropped my handgun on concrete and it landed right on the rmr. It doesn't even have a scratch. Gotta love trijicons durability.
My understanding with the "marksman barrel " was added to the 17M model which was the orginal contract for the gen 5 with the magwell front cut. These chambers are tight with dummy rounds and score the 9mm projectiles to help with identifying rather than the polygonal barrels for forensic data.
The marksman barrel also wears out extremly fast. Mine has around 700 rounds and the inside of the barrel looks trash. Like its flacking metal. Still shoot very well but i dont know hows the muzzle velocity (dont have a chrono) and how will it wear with time but IMHO the GMB is a big downgrade to the polygon barrel.
The Black Dynamite scene cuts is clutch 👊🏾 As far as G17 Gen5.5, if you were to get only one Glock and you don’t like Glocks for whatever reason this is the one to get.
Hi, great review ! love your vidéos, I'm currently hesitating between a glock 19 gen5.5 and a HK USP Compact. I've seen you vidéos on both, the pros and cons and I know you like the HK But I would like to know your opinion : Which one would you choose ? Which one is the most accurate and the easiest to handle ? Thank you :)
That’s my exact duty carry, I tried to talk my chief into the MOS for the possibility to get red dots approved. He didn’t go for it lol. I’ve had more rounds on a glock 17 form gen3 to gen5.5 than any other gun and not by choice lol definitely a tough gun. My previous gen4 was put through hell, 7 years of duty and not one issue. The new finish is holding up to my Safariland holsters though, and I do like the trigger better on the gen5s. I like the new sights better then the HDs, the HDs are sharp AF I cut myself a couple of times lol. Glocks aren’t my first choice but is like a Toyota pickup, it get the job done and last forever lol. This is by far my new favorite glock17 review👍🏽
Thanks man, and the Trij HDs are sharp. I hate carrying them. But on the presentation and running the gun, it's much better results for me for some reason. I think it's the posts themselves and how Trijicon does the front dot/outline. But the G17 is built for hard use and they hold up well to punishment. Which is good and makes me feel good about deciding to give this one a shot.
I wanted to get the 17 but ended up with the 19X because I’m a complete fudd and sucker for anything labeled coyote or FDE, plus the nite sights for basically the same price. (Last year) I would have never believed how carry-able the 19X would be with an AIWB holster. I’m not a huge dude, 6ft ish around 175-180 but I can conceal pretty easily with the 17 rd flush mags. I never intended on carrying it until I started training drawing it from concealment with my elms laser kit, that’s when the ole light bulb went off in my noggin. I finally understood why people want to carry full size pistols, the ease of draw compared to drawing my p365 is absurd. If I don’t hit everything absolutely perfect with the p365, the whole draw is trash. But getting great placement on that 19X is almost comically easy
Triggers on Glocks can be all over the place from gun to gun. I do 25 cent trigger jobs for various guns for friends and I always dread doing it for a glock because I never know how it's going to turn out. Sometimes the end result will have a smooth mushy rolling break almost like a Kahr trigger, other times it will make the take up virtually weightless but the wall heavy. You just never know.
Solid points and feedback. I have had that experience as well, but probably not to the degree of samples you have. I also have messed with a few samples that feel like they stacked each ledge of the new trigger plunger.
Enjoyed your review, as usual. I love the G17 but my personal favorite is the G45. Feels like it balances better for me and my limited skill set. I was a G19 fan minus pinching my palm when trying to reload quickly so the G45 gives me the best of both models. I have one of the Langdon Tactical models and it’s a fantastic firearm. The Ameriglos work great for me. Interestingly, if I switch from any other gun to my G45 I have zero adjustment period but switching from the G45 to any other gun requires a mag or so to stop shooting low. Would have figured it would happen the other way as well. I almost exclusively use and carry SAO guns these days, but the G45 will always have a place with me because it would be my end of the world gun if for no other reason than the fact that parts are abundant all over the world. You are correct in saying everyone should own at least one G17, G19, or G45.
Thanks man. I still think you should be doing more reviews. Your delivery is perfect. Also you and a few others are in the comments with support for the 19x or G45. Maybe I should check one out.
@@navyman8903 I appreciate the words of encouragement. I’ll make another video soon. It’s just much harder than you guys make it look. I’d also love to hear your comparison on the G45 or G19x vs the G17 if you can get some time behind one.

you always got the cool music! I'd be interested in your take with hammers vs strikers since you usually touch on details that most people never mention (most just say preference without touching on what each are good at, aside from maybe reholstering). If you feel like making a video about that I'd think its cool lol
I’ve basically sworn off glocks from a gen 4 17,19 and a gen 4 21. There is only 2 glocks I will ever consider buying into that company again. it’s a 19x or a gen 5 21. So basically only 1 since glock seems they are only are producing 9/40 for the gen 5 models. I’ve never had any physically malfunction, but they just don’t do it for me. Their outstanding guns and will be an icon for their reliability and service. However their are many companies nipping at the heals of glocks empire offering a lot more for the same price or a few dollars more. Great video as always devil dolphin. 👌🏻
Thanks man, and I was almost there myself. The only thing keeping me in the Glock game is the boys I shoot with, if we meet up for something serious. But I would be fine without them for sure. I am glad the 5.5 17's are this good though. I do wish they would make the 5.5 G21, but that will take forever if it happens at all.
Glock 17 is Glocks original design and it is the way. The 45 is essentially a 17 too. I own both and even though I was originally an HK purist like yourself I found the widespread LE adoption was for a good reason. I was trained on it so I am partial but its the worlds perfect gun. Your all B student which is better than A's and some C's.
Nice review! My favorite two Glock 30 and G19X/45. I know you're an HK guy, just got a USP Elite. What are your thoughts? Thinking about picking up the Elite as well. Before that I have to buy some Black Dynamite videos and cartoons! 😂😅🤣 ✊🏿
I've heard the Elites are very very smooth shooters. Let me know how you like it. The Experts are solid as well. I also love Black Dynamite. The movie had so much subtle and intelligent humor that was lost on a lot of people. Great movie.
@@navyman8903 It's a very nice shooting firearm, very accurate. I'll probably have to get Talon Grips to secure grip when hands are sweaty. I have a video for better look.
P30L or USP9 with the Jet funnels, their only striker option is a VP9 but you would have to address the rear plate and I'm waiting for the Maritime parts to hit the market.
@@navyman8903 all my guns are striker fired so I dont have any experience with hammer fired. May have to check out the VP9. I have two Glocks already which I love but kinda wanna get something different from the G17 for HD/range.
I just prefer the looks of the original Gen 5s without the front serrations. Unfortunately, you can’t find any anymore, so I had to go with scrounging up a 17M for that look.
The gen 5 fullsize and compacts pistols come apart like that due to the ambidextrous cut for the SSL in the slide. You can also put them together faster, instead of putting on the slide from front to back, put the SCP over the cruciform and clamshell it on to the frame rails then pull back. Just a fun fact
What really blows me away with the Glocks is the whole ecosystem. With Sigs and HK’s you are saving up for extra magazines, looking to see who makes holsters, etc. I had magazines thrown at me once I started Glocking. Now the question is: “which holster do I want?”. Just an amazing difference.
Not to mention LE trade in mags. I’ll pick up small batches from time to time for my 17 for about 13 bucks a pop. Same with the 21, every couple months I’ll grab a few LE mags for about 14 bucks a piece.
They are but stock is probably low right now. Between the panic and the holidays. A lot of guys who qualify for blue label guns use their 2 in December, then another 2 in January.
The Agency Arms 417 comp and Suerez Street comp are both designed to run with OEM parts and all types of ammunition. The slide on my 17 gen 5 does the same thing. Another thing that's cool with the G17 gen 5 is the slide works with no modifications and can slide right onto a G19 gen 5 frame. That's something the gen 5 Glocks can do that other generations can't. The barrel lugs with with 17 are the same as the 19 now. I wonder if my 17 barrel fits in my 19 slide now or a G34 gen 5 barrel would fit in a G17 gen 5 slide and frame. Hell, put a G34 barrel gen 5 in G19 gen 5 and have ultimate velocity!
I’ve had several different generations of the g17. I have also had a couple compact framed glocks. I don’t have big hands but I do prefer the full size over the compact. I currently have a g45 because I feel it’s the best of both worlds. I don’t conceal because it’s a full size framed pistol. I have a gen 3 26 for that. I think the improvements of the gen 5 are awesome.
Very based, I can't wait to get a proper belt & a PHLster Pro next month so I can truely get a feel for this carry path, I appreciate your rundown of all the benefits of this gun. 🦓💚
Thanks for the kind words and for watching. I think you're on a path to success with your life choices. Let me know how you like the holster, I'm looking at some of their stuff.
@@navyman8903 I got a Blackhawk holster for mine. It's a quick release thumb activated holster and it was only $9! Absolutely love it. I got an IWB as well. It was 30 something and it is nice as well. Very comfortable.
I LOVE my G17.5 and G34.5...just easy guns to shoot and maintain. I'm a press checker and I'm totally happy with the oem slide cuts. I will direct mill/mount both for optics. Neither of my Gen5 slides come off like my Gen3/4, they come off just like yours.
I have a gen 3 Glock 17, I carried it for a couple of years since it was the only gun I had pre ban magazines for in MA. Since I moved out I haven't really looked back at it since I have minimized my 9mm platforms to hk p2000/p30/vp9 and p320/p250. Still hoping someone makes an aluminum Glock frame some day
That would be choice, and I could easily collapse down to my HK's, which would be smart for a multitude of reasons. All my boys and the group of guys that would meet up if things went south all run Glock 17s. So....might as well have a few and know how to use them. But I would be completely covered and happy with just P30's and P30L's. I run circles around the G17 with my P30L.
what Glock did the most was take niche calibers and give them a normal reliable platform to shoot from... thats why I went Glock 31... why go 9 or 40 when you can go 357 Sig
It was their Gen 5 refresh that was an unannounced update. It deleted the grip cut in the front, added front slide serrations, and rounded the dust cover to match the frame. It is different than the first year Gen 5s.
@@navyman8903 I had no idea. Thank you for the information. I have a G17 Gen5 and my wife has a G26 Gen4. I like my 17 but not crazy about her 26. It's just too small for me. I understand the reason behind it, but I have medium/large hands and just can't hold her pistol. I CC this and my RIA STK100. I'll be honest, if I simply wasn't just wanting a Glock because of its reputation and proven reliability, I would have no issues always carrying my RIA. I have shot it a lot and the only issue was the old aluminum ammo. No FTF or FTE. The ammo was crap. Changed back to brass and the gun ran fine
Unfortunately for me CA’s lame ass anti gun politicians don’t think civilians should have “non-approved” handguns like the Gen 5, but it’s totally fine for LEO to purchase one.

@@navyman8903 I can’t blame you there. Being able to share mags and random pieces is always a benefit to having the same platform as friends.
Gen 3 is the pinnacle..
@@charlesbukowski9836 The Gen 3's are hard to beat for sure. I think they're much more robust in the slide assembly vs the 4's and 5's.
Love my Gen 5 17
IT's a solid gun.
@@navyman8903 yes sir
What’s your opinion on the HK P2000SK?
@@thomaspounds9031 the P2ksk is a solid gun, I prefer the P30sk over it, but the P2ksk good to go.
@@navyman8903 thanks
What’s your HK recommendation that’s comparable to the G17 and its use such as HD/range/duty
Yo I have the case, grip plug, and back straps for a glock 19x all brand new I didn’t use them, you interested in it for your g17?
I'm good to go but I truly appreciate the offer man.
Love my 5.5 19 MOS. If I had to do it again, I’d get a standard 19 send it off to get milled but it’s what I have, and I am really enjoying it.
The G19's are still solid guns. The G17 just does it for me.
Great review! As a diehard H&K fan it pains me that my Gen5 G17 gets all the action these day's. I hate that I enjoy it so much, f**king Glock lol!
Same, and I shoot my P30L just as well if not better. But I still run the G17 more frequently.
I just prefer the looks of the original Gen 5s without the front serrations. Unfortunately, you can’t find any anymore, so I had to go with scrounging up a 17M for that look.
Oh it looks so much better and cleaner. But the finish is so slippery. But I agree with you it's a much cleaner and aesthetically pleasing look.
Interesting. I didn't know that.
It really is. Possibly the easiest gun to source in America next to or just slightly above the AR15.
Yep..even with all the Covid bullshit we were going through I could buy everything locally that I'd need to fully rebuild my Glocks.
@@justinm.791 Which is amazing if you think about it.
Not to mention LE trade in mags.
I’ll pick up small batches from time to time for my 17 for about 13 bucks a pop.
Same with the 21, every couple months I’ll grab a few LE mags for about 14 bucks a piece.
@@gizmosgadgets4146 Also a massive advantage.
Loved the opener - subbed
Thanks, I appreciate it.
I've been looking for an OR ready G17 or G19. I thought they were already on the market, but can't find any for sale.
The full size frame just feels right.
Yup it’s a Glock. Just works. I don’t have huge hands so the 19 works for me. Got 4 of them. Also love my 19x.
You're not the only one in the comments to suggest the 19x or G45.
I am moving toward changing my main pistol platform to Beretta 92s, but kept my 19X. Got to have a Glock in my lineup.
I support your life choices.
They're really solid and they are very easy to maintain. I too am a press checker.
i would like to hear your thoughts on the cz p10f i prefer it to glocks by a far shot but with that being said i still like glocks quite abit

Thumbnail that isn't no step on snek? What? This is unheard of.
I know right?
What sights do you usually have on your 17’s?
Trijicon HDs in orange.
@@navyman8903 nice. XR or regular HD?
I run circles around the G17 with my P30L.
could you share how how you conceal carry this ?
Just bought a G45 and I’ve been itching to get it
Let me know how you like it.
Memes on point 👌🏽
Lol thanks man.
The reason they shoot better is because of the tighter chambers, than they had before.
Very good video I truly enjoyed it
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Ever notice how some people own a few Glocks and never enjoy much better guns? If only they new
Cool,gun
Sha-Sha-Shaa!
Does your other video cover how you conceal the 17?
It doesn't but I could probably get around to knocking one out.
@@navyman8903 I can't imagine concealing a full-sized pistol (that's what she said).
what Glock did the most was take niche calibers and give them a normal reliable platform to shoot from... thats why I went Glock 31... why go 9 or 40 when you can go 357 Sig
They did a solid job with that and the 10mm.
undercut makes glock have such a good feel pluse only gun that you can cut gas pedal cut
What does Gen 5.5 mean?
Changed back to brass and the gun ran fine
nicely done
Navy Man... I think you fell overboard.. drumroll....... g17 or USP for most situations. O do tell..
Depends. Working a problem with the boys? G17 because that's what all of them will have. By myself? Or suppressed? USP all day long, no question.
