DJI Mini 3 Firmware Update v01.00.0410 - Remote ID (RID) Test with Standard and Plus Batteries

- In this video I flight tested the DJI Mini 3 using the standard and the plus batteries. With the most recent firmware update v01.00.0410 DJI states that the drone will only broadcast Remote ID with the Plus battery. We put that to the test using the Drone Scanner app on a Pixel 6 android phone.

I also was no longer able to tell, in the DJI Fly App, if my Mini 4 Pro was broadcasting RID or not. And I tried both batteries. And your testing here mostly matches my results, except I couldn't test with drone scanner app because I don't have Android. Great video Marcus, thanks for sharing.

Hey Marcus, I hope you are well and having good flights. I have thought that feature was really cool since the M4P first received it. I saw it in the firmware notes and tested it out kinda how you did a couple different RID scanner apps and works as states on the m4py. I think the Air Sentinel app is a little more accurate. Good news for anyone worried about being tracked by drone Karens don't have to because these little drones don't seem to have a very strong or far RID transmission signal. I don't know about the M3P as of now but the auto RID feature works on the M4P just fine. Thank you for doing this test for everyone else to see and learn more about this cool little feature.

I didn't see the landing shadow icon while you were landing like on the Mini 4 Pro or the Air 3. But you have had some close pad landings in the past with GPS alone. Cheers, Brendan AKA: Drone Me Up

When you swapped out the regular battery with the plus, the controller was on. Only when you rebooted both the RC & the drone with the plus battery it started broadcasting the RID. 😊

I had my updates today but unfortunately after the firmware update the aircraft disconnect after after every minute.
I tried with DJI assistant 2 and it can't recognize it too with different computer too.

Great test, Marcus. I did the same test and was relieved to see my Mini 3 Pro wasn't broadcasting Remote ID either. I've had too many Karen encounters, and I don't want more 😂

I was watching the Pilot Institute Q&A broadcast earlier and Greg mentioned there was some confusion with RID between the Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro. You might want to see if it is info you would be interested in at the 26 minute mark.

Presumably the Mini 4 Pro will behave that way too since it was also updated. I would bet the M3P will be updated in a matter of weeks. The M4P was updated in Dec. The Mini 3 was updated in Jan. So I expect M3P will be next.

You managed to scare me a couple of times on that flight! When you got really close to your camera and then later the support pole, I found myself rearing back from my computer's screen to keep from getting hit.
I have a couple of more things for you to try some time. When you pulled down the Flight Checklist, since the Normal status was in green, I was wondering if you could touch the screen and navigate away from the Normal screen that was being displayed? Would that display the RID info? Secondly, try getting up and walking away from the take off point to see if the pilot's location moves on the RID app.

AFAIK, DJI claims that the only DJI Mini class drone that has "precision landing" function is the Mini 4 Pro, but there's a procedure for enabling it.
It's always on on the Mini 4 Pro, there is nothing to enable. 👍

Dang..just yesterday I purchased a fly more mini kit, prechecked everything per instruction, and this RID thing is in my RUclips. I don't have extended batteries and never registered with FAA per regulation, sub 250.
I really hate the fact the gov has a hardon for DJi, should I be concerned? Thanks
No you'll be just fine. If you're using the sub-250 batteries you do not need to register.

What about going back to the regular battery after flying it with the bigger battery will the drone broadcast remote ID on the app ?

What I am interested in testing which I haven’t done yet. Is to see just how far the Remote Id will broadcast. Since it is supposed to work by blue tooth. I am thinking probably not very far. I know if I have my headphones connected to my phone and walk away from the phone I lose connection at about 500 to 600 feet. So I’m curious to send the drone out past a thousand feet away and see if it still shows up on the app. Then do another test where I have someone else go a couple miles down the road while I fly the drone away from my location and opposite to the person I have a couple miles in the other direction and see if it shows up on the app. And if it doesn’t then I’ll move everything closer to it does. But if it does show up I will move everything further away from all 3 locations. Just to see how far the signal can reach? I don’t think it’s going to broadcast as far as people might think. Especially if it’s operating on blue tooth. Because blue tooth is not that strong. And if it’s operating under the same signal as the drone then it’s might reach a few miles depending on the location. But nobody 50 miles away is going to detect the drone. Or even 20 miles away. I believe that. So unless you live in a city area remote ID is pretty much useless.
That is worth testing. I'm willing to bet it's good for a 1/2 mile or so. Good question.

I don't think so, but you'd want to test it to be sure.

You tested the mini three in this video not the mini three pro why not? I am new to drones and just purchased a mini three pro from DJI with the 249 battery because i thought it wouldn’t have to be registered or track by remote ID. Is this accurate your videos a little confusing not mentioning the three drones, the mini three the mini three pro and the mini four pro.
I tested the Mini 3 because it is the drone that received the firmware update.
Maybe a real dumb question but I’m a new flyer and just bought a mini 3 pro. My previous drone was already over 250g. Do I need to install a remote ID on my mini? How does it board cast etc
Your Mini 3 Pro is already equiped with RID. You do need to register it however.
So I have the mini-3 and just got a Plus battery from DJI so I can broadcast remote ID. Well, can't get it to show up on drone scanner. I have tried re-booting the controller and drone and switching batteries back and forth and still not showing remote ID. I have all the latest firmware updates and don't know what to do. Any ideas? I am using the DJI Remote RC.
The Drone Scanner app only works on android devices. If you are using an iPhone that could be the issue.

Hello, Marcus. Hey, I just did the same test as you did with my mim3 pro. And my min 3 pro comes up with remote ID showing all the time. No matter what battery I put in, the extended battery or a sub250 g. battery, can you please help me?
I believe it's just the standard Mini 3 that this applies to. The Mini 3 Pro will always transmit RID.
My M3P only broadcasts with the plus batteries. Maybe because you have a newer battery?

How do u like ur mini 2 se ? I flew 1 yesterday and loved it but im planning on Buying my own soon and im leaning on getting the mini 3 instead for the 4k , longer flight time and better night flying camera settings. But that mini 2 se price tag is $200 cheaper and really attractive

I tested drone scanner from google play to see if it will show my dji mavic pro 3. And it show the drone location and pilot location. Like why the fvck does it show the pilot location? Anyone who doesnt like drone will use this app to find the pilot. Fvck piss me off. We just want to fly for fun as a hobby. We dont need the gov or karens knowing our location. Thats fvck up.
Yeah dji just confirmed today to me that the mini 3 pro CANNOT turn rid off with the small battery. Only the mini 3 and said this about mini 4 pro “When flying with Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, FAA RID will be automatically enabled for DJI Mini 4 Pro and cannot be disabled.”
I ordered the mini 3 pro this morning not knowing that and already returning it. Fuck RID
