I was flying locally for someone up the road shouting abuse I was 100ft up just flying locally when I was landing hearing abuse. Imagine this tracking RID and them rocking up at your door for confrontation after getting your exact location. It should only be available to police caa if a formal complaint was raised but for the public to have this I don't really agree. You can't get an address off a car plate so why a drone.

FYI Cuzzy, the mini 4 was broadcasting RID pretty much since it came out. If you read the firm update correctly it actually turns RID off when the standard battery is in. I tested this months ago. Again the RID was always on broadcasting the sn# and location etc. So my point is that this firmware actually turns RID off when under 249g. At least that is what I found here in US. Love your vids btw. Always good stuff "mate" 😁

I think it's still just very infant tech for these scanner apps to manage your wifi data. I have not seen the BT broadcast yet. My guess is the dji rid is only broadcasting via wifi (my guess) Sometimes cycle the wifi on off gets the drone app going. My main point again is that the mini 4 was for sure very happy to broadcast whatever info it has available via RID since long time ago. I don't think many people tested it back then or this quarky Drone Scanner app made it look like there was no RID. I have a post about in on FB mini 4 group from about 3 months ago.

I'm not really bummed about getting the Holystone RID for $60 at Christmas, because I'm likely to build my own FPV 7" long distance flyer now I have a little more experience flying. It was just frustrating because I HATE being confused about things. And was just reporting my experiences when I got called out.
I did read up on the requirements because a few people have mentioned BT to me(specifically v4 and v5 dual broadcasting?) , but that's NOT the written requirement...
"The remote identification broadcast module must be capable of broadcasting the message elements in § 89.315 using a non-proprietary broadcast specification and using radio frequency spectrum compatible with personal wireless devices in accordance with 47 CFR part 15, where operations may occur without an FCC individual license."
... BT is patented by Intel just like TPC/IP is patented by Xerox. Are they "public use"? Not sure, even though everyone uses them and I can't find any definition on the FAA site about "proprietary" broadcasting. LOL

If I understand correctly, and you are flying under part 107 you are required to have RID regardless of the battery you are using. I hope DJI will do a firmware update that will allow you to turn on RID if you are using the regular battery. Otherwise you will have to install a module. Seems silly if your Drone has the capibility built in.

Classic "You dont get something for nothing" I just tried it in and out with the basic battery and no ID comes up. Thanks for the tip Ian, I personally dont really like this function if I were to use a plus batt. My info is my info and not for public viewing and I guess many others would feel the same. It's a shot in the foot for DJI as I will certainly not be getting a plus now , a few extra minutes and loss of privacy do not equate. I hate the phrase but big brother knows too much already. What was that windy whirring noise all about when the new update was almost done coming from the RC-2 🤔🤔

I was hoping you were going to show whether the Remote ID error message goes away on the DJI Goggles when using the lower capacity battery. I just got a pair of the goggles two days ago and was very disappointed to learn that I have to have my phone connected to the goggles to broadcast the remote ID here in the US. I've ordered a bluetooth USB dongle that I am hoping I can plug into the goggles and have the phone connection over bluetooth. If that doesn't work then I'll return the goggles to DJI and wait for them to come out with a version where the RID is integrated.

@@IaninLondon Did check again, still no RID signal! I had several views on: Drone Scanner App, Android WiFi scanning and WiFi Analyzer App. None showed any signal. Not while motors are running, even not after lifting up to half a meter in the room. For 2 minutes at least. After landing again, though, there appeared the standard WiFi AP from the drone with its name in it for fast share. Still nothing in Drone Scanner App.
I opted out my M4P from C0 in favour of preserving the 500m height limit in 2024 and on. After the last firmware update the height limit was 120m again and the blue link "request higher limit" was there again. Clicked on it and after a wink of an eye the limit was 500m again.
So I have 2 ideas concerning the different outcome with our two drones:
      - either the RID only comes with drones that are still C0
      - or the RID only comes if the height limit is 120m C0-alike
I suppose there is a simple logic defined by DJI that leads to a different behaviour between our two M4Ps. We just have to figure out what this is. 🙂

I now suppose that my M4P does not have to send out RID at all. Because we here are operating under EASA rules. And these only demand marking the sub 250g drone with your personal e-ID, no more than that. C1 and up / >=250g have to send out RID when being used. Probably my M4P does not send out RID because it simply does not have to in the EU.

So... be very careful when installing a software/firmware update for the UAS or its batteries. Don't start the motors at home, because if GPS is not locked, your home's location will be broadcast.
SCARY? Yes. If you do so at home within an FRZ, you've committed an offence, because the legal definition of flying is from Engines On until Engines Off - and that incident's data may be used against you retrospectively.
To be clear, imagine that you were banned from driving your car and you started the engine on your driveway to check its function - the day before your ban was to end. This would be discoverable if RID existed for cars - and you could be prosecuted for Contempt of Court, Driving Without a Licence, and Driving While Uninsured. You could thus be sent to prison, lose your Driving Licence and be fined.
No small matter, then, this RID.
    Thanks Ian.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  6 месяцев назад +2

Two things come to mind there though; 1, if GPS is not locked how can it broadcast your location? 2, Most regulations apply to outside flying. Inside a building, with walls and a roof would not be controlled or restricted. Certainly that's the case in the UK with the CAA making that clear.
