To play this solo like Al did is nearly impossible Hanging the strap that low and never picking it high even for solos on the upper neck just blows my mind
@@ryanmarshall946 but al petrili holds it lower than nuno and the amazing thing is he can play extremely fast lick like that.....i kinda like nuno n alpetrili style of holding guitar and music
This dude is so underrated. Megadeth fans have a habit of ranking guitarist (post-Marty friedman) based of how good they copy the previous guitarist before them. That's crap. Pitrelli didn't copy previous guitarist he added his own flair. But his playing is phenomenal. And on top of that he plays with 22 fret instruments so he has to change things
I totally agree. His shred match Megadeth taste compared to others. I like Kiko lot. But Pitrelli man damn listen to all his solo in TWNH. And in Dread and the Fugitive Mind for me he exceed Marty -and I think that's what Dave wanted to show the world haha.
His career has been nothing short of amazing. Bolton (the rock years), Alive Cooper, Black Widow, Fucking Savatage, TSO, Megadeth. Massively underrated player.
agree!... Al and Degrasso were pure badass live... Al looks like a less perfect Friedman but with a rude and dirt style of playing that I like so much... less virtuoso, more metalhead yeahhh
Oliver Pereira kiko and Broderick were my favorites before they joined deth.....the thing that always bothered me about Broderick, was that he used the neck pickup for this solo....I like the fact that al used the bridge, it sounded spot on to marty
La P.E.O.R interpretación del sólo de tornado of souls que eh escuchado en mi puta vida, como no estaba el webon ese que mató a dimebag en este concierto ! Si mataba a este webon lo hubieran premiado!
+peace sells I'm retarded for having an opinion?! Well thank you! Like everybody else i love Friedman, but Pitrelli and Degrasso brought something in to the band that i like(d)
Frederik Fabricius your opinion is absurd, how can you not think peace sells lineup or rust in peace line up is better? that WAS megadeth, what made megadeth big and created the megadeth sort of music, pitrelli and degrasso where ok live but the albums kinda talk for themselfes, (they were bad).
the stage presence of Al is out of this world !! he is an icon ..a true rockstar with that explorer so low!! without compromising the technique that much..so all that being said---one of my favorites of megadeth without a doubt
Al Pitrelli gives guitar lessons when he is not on tour. If you live close to him he has a studio for lessons. If not you can get lessons online through zoom. $75/ hour an absolute steal to learn from a guitar legend for an hour.
Salute to all of you who recognise the uniqueness of Al and his playing. I remember how I wasn't able to enjoy Broderick's playing, cause he's like a robot. He knows everything but he's so plastic. Have to exploring a bit Kiko but no one is playing like Al. Look at this genius how his explorer is hanging almost to his knees and then he starts tornado solo in mayor key like it's normal.
Playing it "just like Marty" live, is difficult even for Marty, this guy did a good job, its a hard solo to play stood up on stage with sweaty hands at the end of a gig. Sitting down at home is a different matter all together.
i'd rather watch someone play someone elses solo with a personal touch than replicating it soullessly like that robot broderick. yeah it's like listening to the studio version, but where's the fun in that?
People don't give al enough props. He nailed this solo better than any other guitar player since Friedman. He made that fucker sing. And he looks cool with a guitar. Friedman looked weird because of the way he had to hook his hand to build speed.
@jordanmarcolin I just said that it looked weird. Marty wrote some of the best solos Megadeth ever saw. And I have respect for him. But Al is underrated, and he looks awesome playing.
Pitrelli is a great guitarist. He changed the solo a bit but there's a difference between him and Drover (the weekest Megadeth guitarist in my opinion), who couldn't play most parts of it. Broderick on the other hand was the only one who could play Friedman solos 100%. Having seen Kiko Loureiro last night, while he wasn't technically as good as Broderick, he has the potential to become the best Megadeth guitarist since Friedman.
+George Sears try to listen to some of Kiko's solo albums, his techniques are above all of them, however I wouldn't say that when it comes to creation, where he still needs to prove he's got some skills for Megadeth's style.
Who cares? Marty had such a damn hard playing style full of upstrokes and weird bends that only Chris can replicate it. Al had to change it to suit his style and does a good job. Al was awesome even though he was not the best and it is a shame people complain about him. BTW, I like Jimmy DeGrasso way more than Nick Menza.
He gives his touch to it, which I love... And it is a catch 22 situation... If he played it 100% like marty, people would hate him for being a copycat.
@jordanmarcolin That doesn't make very much sense. First off, why would you ever want to start on the upstroke? Second, you don't need to hook your hand to start off with an upstroke. And even if you did, you wouldn't need to hook your hand to maintain your technique even if you chose to start on the upstroke. Third we're both wrong. He adopted this technique in the studio when he was recording his first solo album. He has someone lightly place their finger on the first fret to mute the strings
@shagger67 Sorry for the late reply, but yea he was a great teacher, just really cool and incredible skills - both technical and compositionally. I was an intermediate player at the time - had been playing about 4 years or so. And at this point, as an advanced player - yes, he could teach me again now some 20 years later and still give me a wealth of new knowledge. As for your other question - I doubt he still teaches.
Y'know, it's true: when you grow older, your taste also matures. I was amongst the teens in the early 2000s, who shat on Al and whined about how he supposedly butchered this solo. Fast forward to 2024. Now, I may still think that he didn't play it as well as Marty, but that is no longer the point. I've come to appreciate what he tried here, and how he added his own style and flavor to the solo. In fact, I actually like what he did. Yes, it's not Marty's version note-for-note, but there IS a great solo here nonetheless. Man, I actually love maturing.
why is everyone hating on pitrelli? Its no fun to go to a show and see exact studio copies. Pitrelli added his own style to the solo and it turned out awesome. I dont think Polands tone would fit this solo very much
@Beholder505 I think you may be misinformed. Marty "hooked" his hand because he preferred to pick using an upstroke, so in order to start a run using an upstroke you need to reposition your hand to accommodate this technique. So therefore twisting your wrist so your hand is "hooked", and in your opinion making him look uncool while he is playing his guitar. I would like to see you adopt this playing style and even be remotely successful, let alone look "cool" while doing so.
I dunno why some asspops saying shit abt Al Pitrelli and this olo, I think this is the best improvised version ive ever heard on this solo...btw Al was a great guitarist and was very good on the live shows!!!

David Ellefson said he jammed with Chris Broderick playing one of Chris Poland's songs and he said that when Chris Broderick played one of the riffs, that he could almost swear that is was Chris Poland playing it..Chris is a genius

Marty had the most creative and imaginative solos of any guitarist Megadeth ever had....and for all the guitarist that dave employed after he left to have to learn to play these awesome solos is a testament to how good these guys are too. Drover kicks ass.
@cgabriel65 who told that about chris?? he's definetely not only the most skilled guitarist who has ever been in megadeth but the most skilled guitarist on earth!! the only reason he has ''haters'' is that he's not much time in megadeth but neither pitrelli nor drover had two perfect albums with megadeth. he plays everything perfect. and people, understand that he still has much future in front of him. imagine him staying as much as marty...

@@ryanmarshall946 but al petrili holds it lower than nuno and the amazing thing is he can play extremely fast lick like that.....i kinda like nuno n alpetrili style of holding guitar and music

my favourite megadeth guitarist after friedman.... his stage presence and onstage energy was better than any megadeth guitarist
My favorite as well!

The best part about pitrelli is that he doesn't try to immitate the solos, instead brings a whole new dimension!
Absolutely correct,he does a guest spot on a "SOTO" album ("when I'm older",is the song)Best improvised solo I've ever heard !
The fact that he plays it with an Explorer hanging at his knees makes it even more ridiculous 😆
The fact he was able to play that solo using a plain old explorer down to his knees speaks volumes
Dread and the fugitive mind = Al Pitrelli
Trashes the world
Amazing player. I studied with Al in the mid - late 80s - about 5 years or so. Was an honor to be his student.
I’ve been studying with him for the last year. The guy is not only an amazing guitarist but a really awesome and generous person.
Focus 2 alumni here 1984/85
His playing is just unbelievable!
This line-up was awesome!!! Pitrellis touch was perfect for Megadeth... And Degrasso was so aggressive on the drums.
Overall favorite line-up!

Al Pitrelli is a decent guitarist overall but sorry man, his touch was pretty bad for Megadeth.
Frederik Fabricius Degrasso is a terrible drummer. Be can't keep time. He can't solo....

When i first saw Rude Awakening i saw the skill of Al's playing, he is one of my all time favourite players in Megadeth next to Friedman and Poland!
I like how he puts his own touch into it instead of covering it note for note like a mindless drone.
I totally agree, Pitrelli kills it, great player in this band. I have the cherry gibson explorer he rocks in this video as well 😎
pitrelli plays so smooth, I love it.

al pitrelli...awesome guitarrist...so i think he did his own version of this legendary solo....
So fantastic
al pitrelli is a guitar god...no matter what anyone says...
I am a huge fan of Marty but have to say that Al Pitrelli did a great job playing this in his own style,, so much feel.. outstanding
I like that he keeps the essence of the solo but with his own style. perfect !

al is probably the best megadeth ever had period. that guy can play
I think IMO they should of kept this line up, great guitarist and drummer, post Rust in peace line up
That was pretty badass I always felt like Broderick was missing something when he played Friedmans solos
