Every guitarist in Megadeth has been phenomenal. They are all session guys. Pitrelli just happened to make that more apparent.
@Eviscerate he wasn't into the thrash metal scene. His playing is perfect but his energy is lacking.
Didn't he also play with Savatage on some of their later albums. I think he played with them and Transiberien Orchestra.

This is Megadeth at their peak! Al Pitrelli was confident enough to show his own interpretation of the solos and not try so hard to be "the next Marty Friedman".
He butchered the solo, you don't try to "interperate" /change one of the greatest solos of all time. Shits iconic because of the solo, changing the solo kinda ruins it.
Agree 100%. They’ve never sounded as good as this before or after. Al gets a lot of shit but I personally love his more rock n roll approach to solos as oppose metal or just being a Friedman clone.
More likely he just made the solo easier because he can’t play the original properly…

Al Pitrelli absolutely kills on the solo.
Course he can't beat Marty dude. The solo was made by him. Nonetheless this here is beyond awesome.
Marty Friedman can´t beat All Pitrelli in Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Both are absolutely unique.

I really don't understand all the hate against Pitrelli.. After Marty's original this is the best version to me. Tone is on point, it's not played robotically note by note and you can hear the feeling on those bends. Plus the fact that he nails it even when the guitar is strapped that low makes it even more awesome to me.

Yeah Pitrelli has not the same style as Marty, but he is a recognizable guitar player, and give his own interpretation of the solo which is good in its way.
It is the best after Marty I have heard with Kiko rendition.
But I never liked Drover or Broderick rendition, since they play very robotically the notes...

Best live version of the song, drums are really insane and Pitrelli showing lots of skills and personality, had to learn the setlist in short time
Really liked his improv. That’s what i love about the live versions. How some of these guys put their own signature on it. This one was really good imo.

Eu tenho um dvd piratinha desse show. O show inteiro é frenético, Pitrelli detona e o baterista arrebenta. E o público tá foda. Um show num lugar pequeno que parece em estádio. Um dos melhores shows que já vi do Megadeth.

It's clear that Pitrelli is no Marty Friedman.
Leaving that "small" detail aside, I think he's not bad at all. Maybe he was not as precise as Chris Broderick in execution, but he had something that Chris didn't, and that's feel. (also, he had his own style, whilst Broderick always played like a robot).
Al definitely makes it into my top 3 Megadeth guitarrists list, strange since I used to hate him when I was younger, haha.

Not really sure why everyone is hating on Pitrelli. His jamming skills are clean, I like you can see him playing instead of hiding his technique. You get a good look at the finger work. In all reality, If Mustaine did not care for his technique, Mustaine would of never invited him to the table to put on a great show.
Those guys who underestimate Al Pitrelli really know nothing… Musically, Al was the only Megadeth guitarist on bar with Marty.. Go and see Al’s work before Megadeth and his solo work or even instructional videos… He is an amazing musician.. He just has his own style and never tried to copycat Marty’s work.. If Dave’s didn’t have his arm disease just after Al’s joining , Al could remain as Megadeth guitarist till day..

when i hear people saying something like "he may not be precise but he has FEELING" i know they have no clue what they are talking about, making orgasm faces dosn't equal "feeling", yes chris played it just standing there movin his head a little, that dosn't make a feelingless robot, you just don't like it because he makes the awesome solo look easy... this version is not bad, but i like the original as it is, making improvisation over a solo that wasn't yours in the first place, specially this kind of improvisation (just a note here and there on the parts that are clearly the hardest to play), dosn't make you better... and playing it with straight face dosn't make you worse
That's even harder when Pitrelli's orgasm faces can't even be compared to Marty's orgasm faces. I know Al is good for what he does, but putting him on Megadeth was like having Adam Sandler on a terror movieas the main antagonist.

I found to different vids, one with Shawn Drover, and the other with Jimmy De Grasso in Rude Awakening, and Drover wasn't playing it right, or as fast as Jimmy. He kept stopping when he wasn't supposed to.
