+Matt mounts thanks for watching. There are several good maps that provide details about portages, campsites, etc. the Friends of Algonquin Park publish the most commonly used map. It's a single map of the entire park so it's good that way. If you're looking for detail though, Jeff's Maps are by far the best. Just Google Jeff's Maps. You can download for free to your computer, iPad, etc and also to your GPS. I have the maps and download to the GPS for each trip.

Thanks for cleaning up the sites that some slobs feel like they can just litter and ruin. Much respect as I was raised to always leave the place better then you found it whether that means cleaning up others trash or leaving extra firewood! Good on you guys :)

Still, far too often we see the trash and a lack of respect for nature. A site I stayed on recently seemed to have half the forest cut down and I know they weren't all standing dead trees. I'll bet half were green.
Oh don't get me started on people cutting live trees! I'd cut them down if I ever caught them in the act. Hats off to you guys for respecting the land.
I love Algonquin it's such an amazing trip me and my buddies have a tradition of going once every summer in a big group and we always have fun times... on the other hand I've done a few solo trips and I gotta tell you the experience is life changing being alone I got to see more wildlife and for some reason you gain such a respect for the wild when you're out there on your own if you ever have the chance I suggest you try it...it's a bit spooky the first night but having a nicely sized fire will help the nerves also a bit of weed but that's just my preference
Yes, Algonquin is one of my favourite places and I like solo as well. I haven't done any really long solo trips, just a couple of days - you can check out my channel for one of the trips I did. I got a smaller canoe at the end of last year that I will be using for solo trips in the future. The 17' was a bit tricky in the wind.
As I recall, that is correct. It was a beautiful spot. If the bugs were out I think it would be nasty as it is very close to a marsh. Thanks for watching!

Hi Larry, Big fan of your videos. I'm planning on doing a Kiosk loop this summer and was curious if you remember which campsite you stayed on at Club Lake? I noticed there is 1 site that seems rather secluded from the other two. Thanks for your help!
Hi Sam, Thanks for watching the videos and commenting. Club Lake is really 2 lakes and we stayed on the more northern lake, that is, the first lake you come to if you are coming from Kiosk. If you are using Jeff's Maps the site is marked with "Former site of Richie Bros Lumber Mill" There are quite a few remnants on the site from the old mill including an old car with wooden spokes. It's a very cool site. The fireplace is made of old brick too. Have a great trip! Larry
Exactly which campsite were you on with the old pump and truck? That'd really be something to check out when I'm passing through. Also, a word of advice: you should never arbitrarily move a campfire pit. The Algonquin staff digs pits and fills them with sand, to ensure that there are no roots and so on beneath the spot. I suspect the "sinkhole" you mentioned is due to that sand getting damp and expanding when it froze. As the ice thawed in spring, there would still be space between the grains, allowing the soil to compress again. Better to lay a flat rock or three under your fire for support, and help in the drying/settling process. On the whole, though, this was a great video! Thanks for capturing the lovely scenery and sounds. I also enjoyed the information about the portages. One can look at a topographical map ahead of time, but nothing compares to first-hand descriptions.

It's a very nice site in the fall but in the spring I think it would be very buggy as there's a marsh in back. There's an old car on the site that is particularly interesting. Thanks for your note on the fireplace. This is the only one we've moved and we are pretty careful about this stuff as well as trying to leave the camp better than when we got there. Your idea of putting a rock down in hind sight is a good one though. Cheers.

Hey Larry I am wondering when was the trip? I see the video was uploaded on May 19Th . I am curious just because you had a black fly free trip? or close to it.. I want to head out in the spring of next year and I want to beat the flies.. My wife and I were going to head out on may 14 th threw the 22nd but I rescheduled it to the first week of Aug to the 11th. But that means more people and also no flies though when would the best times to head out there in the spring for good fishing before the bugs
Hi Shane. I think we went in the first week of May and yes we were pretty lucky with the bugs. We left just after ice out which is the best time for fishing and the time when you are most likely to have no bugs although I would say it is not guaranteed. Early May is generally safe though. Depending where you go in the park you can find less busy areas even in August I think. Particularly from Brent, Kiosk or Round lake in the north. Anything off Hwy 60 will be busier though. Have a great trip.

My question is what are the fire, firearms, and park regulations/fees for the area where you are. There are many beautiful parts of this country that i admire but would never visit because of not being able to protect my self
Joe Watson firearms are not permitted in parks in Canada. You can legally carry a rifle one on crown land assuming you are licensed. Handguns cannot be carried anywhere.
a_legitimate_vegetable I have done family trips in August. I just don't put them on RUclips. My kids are away all of July at camp so August is family time.
This trip we left from Kiosk Lake which is accessed from the north side of the park. Canoe Lake is accessed through the middle of the park off of Hwy 60. It's a very busy access point. I'm not sure this answers your question but let me know if there's more you want to know.

Where did you get that big blue dry pack? Was it supplied from an outfitter?
